New Zealand [ Images ] batsman Jesse Ryder [ Images ] was today ruled out of next month's tri-series in Sri Lanka [ Images ], also involving India [ Images ], as he failed to fully recover from his nagging elbow injury.
"Due to the compressed nature of the tour and his speed of recovery so far we feel we have insufficient time to get Jesse fully fit and able to take part in any of the one-day matches," coach and selector Mark Greatbatch said in a New Zealand Cricket statement.
"Therefore we have made the decision to keep Jesse in New Zealand where he will continue his rehabilitation from the elbow injury and return to playing as soon as possible," he said.
His absence in the tri-series starting on August 10 has further weakened the Ross Taylor-captained New Zealand side who are already without regular skipper Daniel Vettori [ Images ] and Brendon McCullum [ Images ], each on paternity leave.
Jesse's replacement will be announced later.
He entered that tournament with hurt ligaments in his elbow and batted five times for 93 runs before eventually succumbing to the pain again. New Zealand's opening match is against India at Dambulla on August 10.
