Uncapped batsman Shamsur Rahman will join Bangladesh's squad in England [ Images ] as cover for injured opener Tamim Iqbal and sick captain Shakib Al Hasan, the Bangladesh Cricket Board said on Sunday.
Tamim played in the Twenty20 [ Images ] World Cup with an injury in his left hand but did not take part in any of the Bangladesh's two first-class tour matches since they landed in England last week.
Skipper Shakib has been diagnosed with chickenpox and has become uncertain for the first of the two-test series against the hosts, beginning at Lord's on May 27.
Shamsur, a 21-year-old right-hander, averaged 67 for Bangladesh A in the recently concluded two-match four-day series against South Africa [ Images ] A.
He also led the side in the subsequent a tri-series one-day tournament that also included West Indies [ Images ] A team.
