India 16-0 (4 ovs) vs SA 286 | Scorecard

India's openers Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay walk out to the middle on a pitch which has given the pacers plenty of help so far on Day 1.

Vernon Philander gets the new ball first up. He starts with a full delivery down the leg side as Vijay clips it fine for a single to get off the mark.

Shikhar Dhawan steers the third ball and gets it past the fielder in the gully as it races away for a boundary. The next ball comes in sharply and is quick as Dhawan has no clue and is beaten all ends up.

Dhawan is hit high on the back leg and the South Africans rightly decide not to take the DRS.

However, the next ball, which is full and wide is smashed through the off-side for a four as nine come from the first over.

Dale Steyn playing Test cricket after an injury lay-off for more than a year will bowl from the other end.

Vijay defends the first ball before he leaves the next three balls and then misses the flick before he again offer no shot to the last ball.

Dhawan takes a single off Philander on the off-side. And Vijay is hit on the pads as he offers no shot to a ball just outside the off-stump. The South Africans instantly go up in a huge appeal for leg before but umpire Michael Gough turns it down.

South Africa go for the DRS but the impact is well outside the off-stump and the ball is missing the stumps comfortably as the hosts lose one of their reviews.

An error of judgement from Vijay but he did well to get outside the line of the stumps. Generally, Vijay is very good with his leaves but the incoming delivery from Philander nearly had him dismissed. He will have to be very careful from now on.

Dhawan taps Steyn on the off-side and picks another single before gets a leg bye.

Dhawan gets a thick outside edge which flies in the gap past the gully fielder for a boundary as India reach 16 for no loss in four overs.
