Ind 185-3 (72 ovs) & 297 vs WI 222 | Scorecard

Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane hit unbeaten half-centuries to put India in firm control, on Day 3 of the first Test against West Indies in Antigua, on Saturday.

India were comfortably placed on 185 for three in 72 overs, for an overall lead of 260 runs with two more days still left in the match.

Kohli was unbeaten on a patient 51 from 111 balls, while Rahane hit his second fifty of the match as he made 53 not out from 140 balls, to patiently consolidate India's stronghold in the match.

The duo were involved in an unbroken stand of 104 runs from 247 balls for the fourth wicket on a slow wicket at the Sir Vivian Richard stadium in North Sound.

India had lost an early wicket when Mayank Agarwal was trapped leg before wicket for 16 by Roston Chase after he decided not to review it but replays showed the ball was missing the leg stump.

His opening partner Rahul also perished attempting the sweep as he missed it and was bowled by Chase for 38.

Cheteshwar Pujara was done in by a beauty from Kemar Roach as he was bowled for 25, but Kohli and Rahane denied the hosts any more wickets in the post-tea session.

Earlier, India, who made 297 in their first innings after being put into bat, bowled out West Indies for 222 in 74.2 overs with Ishant Sharma returning with best figures of 5 for 43.

Besides Ishant, Mohammed Shami (2/48) and left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja (2/64) scalped two wickets apiece.

For West Indies, Chase top-scored with 48, while skipper Jason Holder played a fighting 39-run knock as the hosts failed to build up partnerships.

02:10   Rahane, Kohli hit 50s; India 185-3 at stumps

Ind 185-3 (72 ovs) & 297 vs WI 222 | Scorecard

Pace from both ends as Cummins is called into the attack from the other end, with five overs left for stumps.

Rahane steers a short wide delivery to thirdman for a single to bring up his fifty, from 128 balls -- his second of the match.

He was lucky to get the reprieve in the previous over as West Indies captain Holder decided not take the review. Infact, he had a catch dropped earlier in his innings as John Campbell put down a simple catch in the covers.

Interestingly, Roach was totally convinced that there was no edge but his captain Holder wasn't interested as they wasted on a golden opportunity to break this partnership so close to stumps.

Kohli taps the next ball on the off-side and calls Rahane across for a quick single.

Rahane then pulls a short ball for one and Kohli clips the next for another single.

In the next over, Roach is steered past the slips for two runs by Kohli before he drives the next ball straight back.

Roach gets the ball to dart in sharply as Kohli is hit high on the pads before he watchfully keeps out the last ball.

Gabriel comes back from the other end, with three overs left in the day and Rahane seems to have shut shop as he watchfully bats out a maiden over.

India are 176 for three in 70 overs the lead grows to 251 runs.

Fast bowler Cummins is back into the attack and he bowls from round the wicket.

He tries the short ball which Kohli pulls through midwicket for a four to complete his fifty, from 105 balls, having hit just two fours.

A single to Kohli two balls later brings up the 100-run stand for the fourth wicket from 239 balls.
01:46   Kohli, Rahane swell India's lead

Ind 170-3 (67 ovs) & 297 vs WI 222 | Scorecard

Wonder what tactics West Indies are adopting as they bring in another part-time spinner in John Campbell. They seem to be keen to catch up with the over rate than aim for wickets as the match slowly drifts away in India's favour.

Kohli clips the third ball to midwicket for one and Rahane steers the fourth ball behind point for two runs and plays out the last two balls.

Chase quickly rushes through his 23rd over, conceding just a single and Campbell gives away just two singles in the next over.

Nine overs left in the day's play and India would be delighted if the part-time spinners continue and they finish without any further wickets lost before stumps.

Chase bowls another tidy over, as he sends down a maiden over to Rahane, who has inched closer to his second fifty in the match.

Campbell gifts Kohli a full toss which he whips through midwicket for a single as the fielder at long-on cuts it off and Rahane plays out the rest of the over with ease.

Chase follows it up with another tidy over, conceding just two singles.

Roach is back into the attack as finally West Indies look to do something to check India's steady progress.

Rahane is beaten by a full delivery which moves away as he is hit on the pads but the leg before shout is turned down.

West Indies, who have one review left, decide against taking it. But they realise their mistake soon enough when the Hawkeye shows that the impact was in line and the ball was going to crash into the stumps.

Rahane, on 48, would have been on his way back if West Indies had taken the review.

01:25   Kohli, Rahane swell India's lead

Ind 160-3 (60 ovs) & 297 vs WI 222 | Scorecard

West Indies have gone off the boil completely, allowing India to take the match away from their grasp.

Brathwaite's part-time spinners are easily milked for four singles by Kohli and Rahane, in the 57th over.

They won't get any easier time out in the middle and the duo seem to be making most of it.

Four more from Chase's next over as India reach 154 for three in 58 overs, for an overall lead of 229 runs at the drinks break.

14 overs left in the day as West Indies still continue with the part-time spin of Brathwaite.

The field is well spread out as Kohli and Rahane pick two singles each to long-on for four runs from the over.

Chase continues from the other end. Four dot balls in a row to Rahane, who then takes a single on the off-side and Kohli picks one off the last ball.

India are 160 for three in 60 overs, with an overall lead of 235 runs.
01:14   Kohli, Rahane take India's lead past 200

Ind 146-3 (56 ovs) & 297 vs WI 222 | Scorecard

Brathwaite is not making much of an impression with the ball while it is also helping India collect easy some runs to build their lead without much of a fuss.

Kohli drives Gabriel through the off-side for one before Rahane pulls the next ball for two runs.

Rahane looking to lift the tempo as he grows in confidence with time spent at the crease. He gives Brathwaite the charge and hits the offie through the covers for a four and keeps strike with a single from the last ball.

Spin from both ends as Chase replaces Gabriel at the other end. The off-spinner starts his spell with a maiden over to Rahane as West Indies are slowly catching up on their slow over rate.

00:57   Kohli, Rahane take India's lead past 200

Ind 134-3 (52 ovs) & 297 vs WI 222 | Scorecard

Roach making the ball talk. He beats Rahane with a cracking outswinger as the ball drifts in with the angle before moving away late to go past the edge.

Top bowling from the West Indies fast bowler to keep his team interested.

Rahane watchfully plays out the over from Roach, just wanting to see him off without any damage.

West Indies make a change as Gabriel comes in from the other end. He tries a couple of short balls to Kohli, who had perished to a short ball in the first innings to the same bowler. But this time he is content to just duck under it and safely play out another maiden over for India.

India are 125 for three in 50 overs, stretching their lead to 200 runs.

Change of ends for Brathwaite as he replaces Roach, who has gone off the field after a testing spell, where he deserved a wicket or two.

Rahane defends the first three balls before he slaps a slight short delivery into the covers for one and Kohli blocks the last two balls.

The wind has picked up and it has gone quite overcast in North Sound but no signs of rain yet.

A little bit of width from Gabriel as Rahane drives it on the up through the covers for a splendid boundary.

The next ball is short and wide as Rahane hammers it past point for another four to raise the 50-run stand for the fourth wicket.

That was Rahane's first boundary of the innings after 64 balls faced, while Kohli has also shown a lot of patience to hit just one four in 63 balls.

India are 134 for three in 52 overs, as the lead has gone past the 200-run mark, with Kohli on 26 and Rahane on 29.
00:42   Kohli, Rahane build India's lead

Ind 125-3 (48 ovs) & 297 vs WI 222 | Scorecard

Rahane and Kohli are getting their eye in with some easy runs against Chase, who has given away 16 runs in his last three overs.

Rahane, usually a slow starter, has started off confidently after his half-century in the first innings, to score 17 from 39 balls.

Kohli has eased his way to 21 from 44 balls and would be keen to convert this into a big knock.

Finally, a change in the bowling as Roach comes back into the attack.

He makes immediate impact as Rahane misses a full delivery on the pads and the West Indies appeal for leg before which is turned down.

They decide to take the review but the impact is on leg stump and the ball is going further down as the the Windies lose one of their reviews.

Rahane, on 17, gets a lifeline off the very next ball. He gets a leading edge trying to turn it on the leg side but Campbell in the covers puts down a regulation catch diving forward.

West Indies will feel disappointed at catches going down as wickets are difficult to come by on this slow wicket.

Part-time off-spinner Kraigg Brathwaite comes into the attack as he replaces Chase. The two Indian batsmen easily collect three runs from his first over.

Roach creating some chances. This time Kohli goes chasing at a wide delivery without any footwork and is beaten as the ball moves away.

And two balls later, Kohli looks to defend a full delivery but is beaten again as Roach gets the ball to jag away enough.

Roach gets greedy as he comes even closer trying to get the outswinger working again but this time Kohli clips it off his pads for two runs.

The Brathwaite experiment if anything is only helping the Indians as the two batsmen pick three more singles from his second over.
00:26   Kohli, Rahane build India's lead

Ind 112-3 (43 ovs) & 297 vs WI 222 | Scorecard

A slightly short ball from Chase as Rahane taps it behind point for one. The next ball is flighted right up as Kohli is able to whip it off his pads for a couple.

Two more singles off the next two balls as India are able to keep the scoreboard ticking with West Indies adopting a defensive ploy after the tea break.

Holder looking to keep things tight from his end as West Indies are looking to build some pressure but India's two senior most batsmen will be happy not having to face the two best fast bowlers from the opposition camp.

The runs are coming easily against off-spinner as Kohli picks a single off the first ball and Rahane clips the next through midwicket for two runs. Three more singles as six runs come from the 42nd over, with the lead growing at a steady rate.

Another tight over from Holder as Rahane defends the first five balls and keeps strike with one from the last ball.
