India off to a good start after NZ fold for 157

The players head back for the dinner break with India in complete control on 41 for no loss in nine overs after they had dismissed New Zealand for a paltry 157.

Dhawan grew in confidence after a shaky start to hit an unbeaten 29 from 32 balls, laced with five fours, while Rohit Sharma played a cautious innings of 11 from 22 balls.

They need another 117 runs for victory in 41 overs.

Earlier, Kuldeep Yadav picked up four wickets, while Mohammed Shami claimed three wickets to send New Zealand packing for a lowly 157 in 38 overs.

Shami gave India the perfect start after New Zealand had elected to bat first as he dismissed both the openers early on.

He bowled both Martin Guptill (5) and Colin Munro (8) before the spinners took centrestage in the middle overs.

Yuzvendra Chahal then dismissed Ross Taylor for 24 just when the veteran was looking to build a partnership in the company of captain Kane Williamson.

Kuldeep bagged the key wicket of Williamson, who was caught at long-on for 64, before the left-arm spinner ran through the lower order.

New Zealand lost their last four wickets for 10 runs in the space of 29 deliveries.
