India extend their World Cup supremacy against Pakistan as they registered a convincing 89-run victory via the Duckworth-Lewis method, in Manchester, on Sunday.

After putting on a huge 336 for five in their 50 overs, a clinical India were superior with the ball too despite losing Bhuvneshwar Kumar to injury.

Pakistan never got going in the rain-hit encounter and finished on a disappointing 212 for six after their run chase was reduced to 40 overs.

Kuldeep Yadav bowled an exceptional spell, dismissing the well-set duo of Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman (62) in successive overs to trigger the middle order collapse. He finished with outstanding figures of two for 32 in his nine overs, while Hardik Pandya took two for 44.

Pandya struck with two wickets in a row -- that of Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik to leave Pakistan in tatters in the middle overs.

Vijay Shankar made a handy contribution with the ball on his World Cup debut, taking two for 22.

It was a clinical showing with the ball by India, who were handicapped by the absence of Bhuvneshwar, who had to retire after bowling just 2.4 overs because of an injury.

Earlier, Earlier, Rohit Sharma smashed his second century in three innings and skipper Virat Kohli made 77 to power India to 336 for five after they were put into bat.

Put into bat under a grey sky, India got off to a strong start with KL Rahul, replacing injured Shikhar Dhawan at the top, and Rohit forging a 136-run stand for the opening wicket.

Rohit made 140 off 113 balls and raised 98 runs with Kohli but Mohammad Amir's tight bowling at the death overs denied India a 350-plus total.
