Bhuvneshwar takes India closer to victory as he strikes in his final over. Udana lofts the first ball straight into the hands of Suryakumar at long-on to perish for one as Sri Lanka lose their ninth wicket.

Akila Dananjaya gets off the mark with a single to long-on before Bhuvi wraps up things with the wicket of Chameera, who is caught at deep midwicket.

Sri Lanka are bowled out for 126 as India won by 38 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Bhuvneshwar cleaned up the Sri Lanka lower order, to finish with 4/22, while Chahar took 2/24.

Bhuvneshwar comes back into the attack with Sri Lanka needing a few boundaries to get back into the scheme of things.

Singles from the first two balls before Bhuvneshwar misses the yorker and ends up bowling a full toss which Shanaka lofts over midwicket for a six.

Change of pace as Shanaka hits the fourth ball to long-off for a single before Karunaratne shuffles across and misses the full delivery down the leg side, which narrowly misses the leg stump.

Bhuvneshwar cripples Sri Lanka further with the wicket of Karunaratne, who inside edges the last ball back on to his stumps to be bowled for three.

Chakravarthy comes back, to bowl the 18th over. Shanaka picks a single from the first ball before Udana is struck on the pads by a full delivery but the leg before shout is turned down.

Chakravarthy gets his first wicket in international cricket as Shanaka is stumped for 16 after missing a sharp turning delivery.

Chameera gets off the mark with two runs on the leg side and then takes a single.

Chakravarthy finishes with good figures of 1/28 in his four overs.

Chahal, who has one over in hand, is back into the attack. Dasun Shanaka misses the sweep but picks a leg bye first ball before he nudges the next ball to fine leg for one.

Asalanka is beaten by one that goes straight on before he takes a single after miscuing the sweep.

Sharp turn for Chahal as Shanaka is beaten followed by another dot ball before he takes a single off the last ball.

Chahal concedes just three runs in his last over, to finish with good figures of 1/19 in four overs.

Sri Lanka are 107/4 in 15 overs, needing 58 from five overs for victory.

Chahar comes back into the attack. Shanaka clips the first ball to deep square leg for a couple and takes one off the next.

Chahar misses the radar with the slower ball as he gives away a wide.

Chahar makes the breakthrough with the key wicket of Asalanka, who holes out to Shaw at deep midwicket to perish after a quickfire innings of 44 from 26 balls.

Two balls later, Chahar cleans up Hasaranga who is bowled for a duck.

Sri Lanka struggling on 113/6 in 16 overs, needing 52 from last four overs for victory.

Hardik is back into the attack. Bandara has a big swing first ball but misses before he gets a single to long-on.

Asalanka continues his attacking approach as he plays the inside out lofted shot for a four over the covers and then takes two runs on the leg side before taking one.

Hardik finally gets something to cheer about as he foxes Bandara with the slower ball to bowl him for nine.

In the next over, Asalanka again targets Chakravarthy as the left-arm spinner slogs the first ball for a six.

Singles from the next four deliveries before the left-hander again swings Chakravarthy over leg side for another four to get 14 runs from the over as Sri Lanka go past the 100-run mark.

Asalanka attempts to rally Sri Lanka with a few boundaries. This time he sweeps Chahal through fine leg for a four as Shaw is unable to keep the ball inside the ropes.

He then takes a single to square leg before Bandara does the same two balls later.

Asalanka nudges the fifth ball to fine leg for another run before Chahal bowls a wide.

Bandara sweeps the last ball for a single as the leggie gives away nine runs in his third over.

Chakravarthy comes back into the attack. Bandara down the track as he drives the first ball to long-off for a single before Asalanka swings the second ball over midwicket for a six, clearing the man in the deep.

He gets a leading edge off the third ball for a single to short thirdman.

Bandara chips down the track and is beaten in the next ball and is forced to keep it out watchfully. The right-hander taps the fifth ball to midwicket for a single as wicketkeeper Kishan rushes across to midwicket.

The last ball goes straight on as Asalanka looks to steer it to thirdman but is beaten.

Bhuvneshwar, who bowled just one over with the new ball, is back into the attack.

He gets a wicket with the first ball of his new spell. Fernando holes out to the fielder in the deep as he pulls the first ball to Samson at deep square leg to perish for 26.

Ashen Bandara gets off the mark with a single to thirdman and Asalanka does the same two balls later for another run.

Bandara is beaten last ball as he plays away from his body.

Sri Lanka are struggling to get going as India's bowlers build up the pressure with some tight bowling.

Chahal keeps up the pressure, giving away just three singles in his second over.

Sri Lanka have given just 11 runs in the last four overs.

Hardik Pandya comes into the attack. Asalanka breaks the shackles as he swings the first ball over midwicket for a six and then takes a single off the next.

Bandara struggling to rotate the strike as he plays three dots in a row before tapping the last ball to midwicket with soft hands for a couple.

Sri Lanka are 64/3 in 10 overs, needing 101 from the remaining 10 overs for victory.

Debutant Varun Chakravarthy comes into the attack. Fernando defends the first two deliveries before he takes a single off the third ball on the leg side.

Dhananjaya de Silva tries to sweep the fourth ball fine but misses before he defends the next.

He takes a single from the last ball as Chakravarthy concedes just two singles in his first over.

Another change in the bowling as leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal comes into the attack.

He strikes in his first over with the wicket of de Silva, who goes back to defend to a delivery not that short and is beaten by the turn to be bowled for nine.

Charith Asalanka gets off the mark with a single and Fernando picks one off the next.

Asalanka is struck on the pads last ball but the leg before shout is turned down.

Left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya comes into the attack, to bowl the third over as India introduce spin early.

Fernando lofts the first ball over the off-side for two runs and then takes a single on the leg side.

Krunal gets the breakthrough in his first over, with the wicket of Bhanuka who looks to loft it over the off-side but can't get enough elevation and is caught in the covers for 10.

Dhananjaya de Silva gets off the mark with a single and Fernando picks one off the last ball.

Chahar continues with the ball. The second ball is short and wide as Fernando slashes it past point for a four as Suryakumar dives and gets his finger tips on it but it goes through for a four.

The right-hander flicks the next couple of balls on the leg side but can't find the gap before he smashes a full ball uppishly straight back past the bowler for a four.

Sri Lanka off to a good start as they reach 33/1 in four overs, with Fernando hitting 20 from 15 balls, with three fours.

Ishan Kishan will take over the wicketkeeping gloves for India with Sanju Samson fielding in the outfield.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to start off with the ball for India. The first ball is pitched up and swings away late as Avishka Fernando gets a thick outside edge which goes over the slip fielder for a four to get Sri Lanka off the mark.

The third ball is the inswinger as Fernando clips it to fine leg for a couple and steers the next to thirdman for one.

Bhuvi gets the fourth ball to slant away from the left-hander who has a poke and is beaten but it is ruled a wide, followed by another wide down the leg side to left-hander Minod Bhanuka.

Debutant Bhanuka gets a thick outside edge off the last ball for a single to get off the mark as 10 runs come from the first over.

Deepak Chahar from the other end. Bhanuka walks across the stumps a long way and flicks the first ball over fine leg for a four.

Dropped! Bhanuka smashes the third ball straight to Hardik in the covers, who goes with the reverse cup but ends up dropping the easy catch as the ball bursts through his fingers.

Fernando is given out caught behind as Chahar bowls a beauty to the right-hander, who looks to defend but edges the outswinger, which moves away enough.

However, Fernando takes the review immediately. The replay shows that the ball missed the bat and went off the pads as the decision is overturned.

Chahar gets the new ball to swing as this time Fernando gets it off the outside half of the bat for a single to thirdman.

The last ball is a full delivery which Bhanuka clips through square leg for a four.

Chameera starts the penultimate over with a high bouncer down the leg side to Kishan which is called a wide as the batsmen also steal another extra run.

Hardik gets the next ball past point for two runs and gets one to long-on.

Kishan swings the third ball over the leg side as the fielder at fine leg puts down the easy catch on the boundary.

Chameera is rewarded next ball with the wicket of Hardik, who looks to steer it wide but ends up getting the edge and is caught behind for 10.

Krunal Pandya gets off the mark with a single and Kishan manages just one off the last ball.

Karunaratne to bowl the final over. Kishan gets two runs off the first ball before he gets the next off the toe end trying to smash it for just a single on the leg side.

Krunal swings hard but can only get it down to long-on for another run and Kishan steers a wide full toss past point for two runs.

Kishan loses his footing as he goes hard at the full wide slower ball for a single to long-off before the pacer bowls a wide to Krunal.

Krunal pulls the last ball wide of long-on for a single as India finish on 164/5 in their 20 overs.

Good bowling from Sri Lanka at the end, as India managed 2/43 in the last five overs.

Hasaranga, who has one over in hand, is back into the attack. Suryakumar lofts the first ball straight down the ground for a six to complete his fifty in grand style, from 33 balls.

Hasaranga gets revenge next ball with the wicket of Suryakumar, who tries another lofted shot down the ground but is caught at long-off after a good innings of 50 from 34 balls.

Hardik Pandya takes a single to the covers before Ishan Kishan takes a single to get off the mark and the former picks one off the last ball.

Pacer Chameera is back into the attack. Hardik flicks a full toss through midwicket for a single before Kishan looks to hit it through the covers but can't find the gap.

The third ball is a bouncer as Kishan ducks under it before he steers a full toss past point for a four.

He has a big swing next ball but is beaten by the change of pace as he manages a leg bye and then takes a single to point.

Udana comes back from the other end. Hardik tries to slash the first ball past point but is beaten before he picks two runs on the leg side. He pulls the next ball only for a single to long-on before Kishan mistimes the shot next ball, blocking it back to the bowler.

Another slower ball but this time Kishan muscles the length ball over midwicket for a huge six and takes a single from the last ball.

Hasaranga, who has taken 1/15 in two overs, comes back into the attack. Dhawan clips the first ball for a single and Suryakumar gets one off the next on the leg side.

Another single for Dhawan before Suryakumar misses the sweep before he inside edges the next ball going for another big swing to pick up a single.

Udana comes back into the attack. He starts with a slower ball which Suryakumar picks early and sweeps it square for a four.

He gives the charge next ball but misses the slog across the line before flicking the next for one.

Another slower ball as Dhawan pulls it for a couple of runs and keeps strike with one from the last ball.

Karunaratne makes the breakthrough with the wicket of Dhawan, who flicks it uppishly but is caught at deep square leg after a good innings of 46 from 36 balls.

The next ball is a wide down the leg side as Suryakumar looks to flick it uppishly but misses. He is then deceived by the change of pace as he attempts another big shot.

Karunaratne tries another slower ball but this time Suryakumar picks it early and deposits it over square leg for a six. He miscues the cut shot next ball as it goes to short thirdman on the bounce and then takes a single.

Karunaratne comes back into the attack. Dhawan pulls the first ball for a single and Suryakumar paddle scoops the next fine on the leg side for a four.

He steers the third ball to thirdman for one and Dhawan picks one in the covers.

Suryakumar shuffles across and tries to hit Karunaratne over the leg side but gets a leading edge before he swings the next ball but misses as the pacer bowls a wide.

Suryakumar keeps strike with a single from the last ball as nine runs come from the over.

Spinner Dananjaya comes back into the attack. Surya takes a single from the first ball before Dhawan slog sweeps the next over midwicket for a six.

A single to Dhawan before Suryakumar plays his trademark whip over midwicket for one.

Dhawan has changed gears as he flat bats Dananjaya back over his head for a four to bring up India's 100, in the 12th over.

Captain Shanaka is back into the attack. He makes a tidy start, giving away just four singles in his first over.

With the field spread around, Dhawan and Suryakumar pick two singles each as Sri Lanka look to keep things in check in the middle overs.

Suryakumar plays a delightful flick as he hits leggie Hasaranga through midwicket for a four and then takes a single off the third ball.

Dhawan happy to pick the singles with one to square leg and Suryakumar cuts the last ball behind point for a four and keeps strike with one to long-on.

Udana comes back into the attack. The second ball is a full toss as Suryakumar drills it through the covers for a four and then chips the next back over the bowler for one.

Dhawan turns the strike over with another run before Suryakumar hits a full toss for two runs.

India well placed on 78/2 in 10 overs, with Suryakumar on 22 and Dhawan on 27.

Samson comes down and lofts Dananjaya back over his head for a huge six straight down the ground.

The next ball is down the leg side as Samson misses the sweep but umpire rules it a wide.

Samson drives the second ball uppishly in the gap through the covers for a four. He whips the third ball through midwicket for a couple and then picks two more runs off the next to bring up India's 50, in the sixth over.

He retains strike with a single from the last ball as India reach 51 for one in six overs.

Wanindu Hasaranga comes into the attack. He strikes first ball with the key wicket of Samson, who misses the full delivery trying to flick, and is out leg before wicket for 27 from 20 balls.

The ball went straight on as Samson played down the wrong line and walked off without taking the review.

Suryakumar Yadav gets off the mark with a single and Dhawan takes one to midwicket off the fifth ball.

Suryakumar hits the last ball through the covers for two more runs as Hasaranga makes a good start, taking 1/4 in his first over.


20:29   Samson, Dhawan rally India

Chameera bowls a half-tracker as Samson slashes it over the point region for a four.

A good short ball clocked at 140.9 kmph as Samson goes for the pull but misses and is hit on the helmet.

A single to Samson to thirdman before Dhawan keeps strike with one from the last ball.

Off-spinner Akila Dananjaya comes into the attack. Dhawan immediately takes on the spinner as he sweeps the first ball square on the leg side for a four.

Two balls later, the left-hander drives the third ball through the covers for a couple and sweeps the next fine on the leg side for a four.

India bouncing back after the early wicket, as 11 come from Dhananjaya's first over.

Left-arm pacer Isuru Udana comes into the attack. Dhawan picks a single off the first ball before Samson is caught in the covers but the umpires want to have a look.

The ball has clearly bounced just short of the fielder in the covers as Samson survives as he played a uppish drive.

Dhawan takes the chance as he comes down and has a swing but ends up miscuing the ball over the off-side for two runs before taking a single off the next.

Samson drives the last ball to sweeper cover for one as India reach 35 for one in five overs.
20:13   Shaw out for first-ball duck

India 12-1 (2 ovs) vs SL | Scorecard

Prithvi Shaw walks out to open the batting on his debut with captain Shikhar Dhawan, with Dushmantha Chameera open the bowling.

Shaw is gone for a first-ball duck on his T20 debut. A full delivery from Chameera which swings away late as Shaw looks to drive but gets the edge and is caught behind.

Sanju Samson gets a similar duck first ball but he manages to control it well, steering it to thirdman for one to get off the mark.

Dhawan also digs out a full delivery on the leg side for one before Samson clips the fourth ball through midwicket for two runs.

The last two balls are away from the off-stump as Samson is able to easily to ignore it, to end a superb first over from Chameera.

Chamika Karunaratne from the other end. The first ball is full as Dhawan drives it straight with the fielder at mid-on stopping the ball for a single after initial confusion between the two batsmen.

Samson steers the next ball past point for one and Dhawan collects another run as he pushes it into the covers.

Another single for Samson on the leg side before Dhawan hits the last ball for a four through the covers.
19:45   Chakravarthy, Shaw debut for India

India are fielding a full-strength team as all the players rested for the third and final ODI come back into the playing XI. India sealed the series by winning the first two games, before they tried some of the other players in the inconsequential third game.

Debutant Shaw will open the innings for India, while Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson are included, with the latter taking over the gloves.

Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka has won the toss and elected to bowl against India in the first T20 International on Sunday.

India have made quite a few changes from the team which was beaten by Sri Lanka in the third ODI on Friday.

Leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy and opener Prithvi Shaw will be making their T20 debuts for India, confirms Shikhar Dhawan at the toss.

Welcome to the coverage of the first T20 International between Sri Lanka and India in Colombo on Sunday.

Leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy and Prithvi Shaw will be making their T20 debuts with India once again starting as overwhelming favourites against Sri Lanka in the three-match series opener.

Having lost a game in the ODI series, Shikhar Dhawan's men would look to go one better against Sri Lanka with a team that is ahead in almost all departments.

Chakravarthy can bowl off-breaks, carrom ball and also take the deliveries away from right-handers, having proved his prowess in the Indian Premier League.

For Sri Lanka, the first win against India in an ODI on home soil after nine years could be just the turnaround that the country's cricketing ecosystem needs after being in shambles for years.

Dasun Shanaka is a young captain but is trying to be instinctive on the field but with some quality players like Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Chamika Karunaratne and Avishka Fernando in their ranks, they will try to pose a quality challenge for the Indians.
