Bumrah, who struggled in the first innings, comes up with another peach to beat Latham again and repeats it, to make three play and misses in a row.

Bumrah gets his line right as he slants it across Conway, who leaves it on length as the ball bounces over the stumps.

The next ball is a touch fuller but too wide to make Conway play but he drives the fifth ball off the frontfoot perfectly into the gap through the covers for a four.

Ashwin makes the breakthrough. Latham comes down the track but is beaten in the flight and the sharp turn as wicketkeeper Pant completes an easy stumping.

Some hope for the Indians as New Zealand opener Latham walks back for nine.

They need another 106 runs from 39 overs.
