South Africa's bowlers bowled their heart out on a flat track, never letting the Indians get away.

Rabada was once again the pick of the bowlers, as he claimed four for 42, while veteran Steyn claimed three for 38.

India were comprehensively outplayed in the contest as South Africa dominated from the word go after getting the toss right.

India 219-9 (34.2 ovs) vs SA 438-4 | Scorecard

Steyn, who has three for 38 in seven overs, gets a break as he makes way for Tahir.

Dhoni is unable to get the big hits away as he pulls a short ball to deep midwicket for two runs. He can't even get a full toss away hitting it on the leg side for a couple.

Tahir finally gets his name among the wicket-takers list as Bhuvneshwar holes out to the fielder at long-on to fall for one.

With the required run rate at around 13, Dhoni is content to play steadily. But on the odd occasion he hammers Behardien's medium pace straight down the ground for a four before he tickles the next one fine on the leg side for another boundary.

Dhoni decides he has had enough as he comes down the track to Tahir but is beaten completely as the ball spins the other way and comes in to crash into his stumps.

Dhoni walks back after a disappointing knock of 27 from 29 balls as India stand a wicket away from a humiliating defeat and along with it the series.

Rabada makes the breakthrough as Dhawan gets a leading edge and Amla does well to take a tough catch running to his right in the covers.

Not an entirely convincing innings from Dhawan, who walks back after scoring 60 from 59 balls, after putting on 112 runs for the third wicket with Rahane.
'
New batsman Suresh Raina gets off the mark with a single before Rahane cuts a short ball over point for a four.

Rahane slog sweeps Tahir but Miller at deep midwicket pulls it off the ropes to save a certain boundary and keep it down to two. But Dhawan finds the gap to perfection to get a four off Tahir as India reach 128 for two in 20 overs, still needing another 311 runs for victories in 180 deliveries.

Steyn makes a good comeback, beating Rahane outside the off-stump who tries to flay it through the off-side.

A good opportunity for Dhawan to get his form back ahead of the Test series with the result of the match looking like a foregone conclusion as the required run rate touches the 10 runs per over mark.

Dhawan steers Behardien through the thirdman region for a four to take the score to 90 for two in 15 overs.

18:43   Kohli and Rohit perish early to leave India in trouble

India 51-2 (10 ovs) vs SA 438-4 | Scorecard

Virat Kohli comes in at No. 3 with India facing a near-impossible of chasing down this huge total.

Rabada bowls a quick bouncer to Dhawan, who does well to avoid it, before driving the next ball, a full toss through midwicket for a four.

The left-hander looks to be getting his touch back. Kyle gives him width as Dhawan steers it through the point region for a four before he pulls a short ball over square leg for another four.

Kohli decides to go on the attack straightaway. A short ball from Rabada is pulled with some power over the leg side for a six but the bowler gets his revenge off the very next delivery.

Rabada bowls a full wide delivery as Kohli throws his bat at it but gets an edge to be caught behind for seven. That was way outside the off-stump, infact it was so wide that Kohli did well to get something on it as wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock took a stunning one-handed catch diving to his right.

That effectively should seal the contest with two in-form Indian batsmen dismissed cheaply to leave the hosts struggling on 45 for two in eight overs.

Steyn, who bowled just one over in his first spell, comes back. He does well to give just three runs after Abbott had given the same number of runs in the previous over.

India are 51 for two in 10 overs, needing another 388 runs from the remaining 40 overs for victory at an asking rate of 9.70.
18:23   Rohit perishes early after South Africa post 438

Rohit continues his good run as he drives a full delivery through the covers for a four off Rabada.

Dhawan gets a lifeline from the last delivery of the over. He had come down a long way looking for a single and was sent back but is lucky that the fielder didn't get the ball back in time.

Abbott dents India's hopes, if there were any, a major blow with the wicket of the in-form Rohit.

With the boundaries having dried up, Rohit throws his bat at a wide delivery only to get a thick edge and is caught by Imran Tahir at thirdman.

Rohit walks back for 16 from 20 balls as India are reduced to 22 for one in five overs.
18:13

India 12-0 (2 ovs) vs SA 438-4 | Scorecard

Dale Steyn to open the bowling for South Africa with India chasing a mammoth 439 for victory.

Interestingly, this is Rohit Sharma's first ODI at his home ground, the Wankhede stadium.

The in-form Rohit Sharma opens his account in style, playing a nice drive through the covers for a four. He nudges the next ball fine on the leg side for another boundary to bring some joy to the local fans, who still seem to be suffering from the after effects of the South African assault.

The impressive Kagiso Rabada to bowl the second over. Three dot balls to Shikhar Dhawan before the left-hander flicks it square on the leg side for a four.

He is beaten off the very next ball as he plays from his crease to one which moves away.

17:59   De Kock, du Plessis, de Villiers hit centuries to power SA to 438

SA 438-4 (50 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

Unbelievable batting from the South Africans as three of them blasted centuries to power their team to a massive 438 for four in their 50 overs. This was perhaps one of the most brutal batting effort you might have seen in recent times.

De Kock slammed 109 from 87 balls, du Plessis stroked 133 from 115 balls and AB blasted 119 from 61 balls as South Africa left India's bowlers in a complete mess.

South Africa must be feeling confident after posting such a huge total and it would take a miracle from the Indians to chase this down.

Stayed tuned for the Indian innings.

17:26   De Kock, du Plessis, de Villiers hit centuries to power SA to 437

SA 438-4 (50 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

India's poor catching continues as Raina this time drops a sitter at long-off to give Farhaan Behardien a lifeline and bring up South Africa's 400, in the 48th over.

That is the third catch dropped off Mishra's bowling, who finishes with no wickets for 78 runs in his 10 overs.

David Miller joins in the party. He heaves Bhuvi over midwicket for three successive fours as India's bowlers have a resigned look on their face.

Behardien also helps himself to a boundary, pulling a short ball from Bhuvi over midwicket for a six.

That completes Bhuvneshwar's century, he finishes with one for 106 in his 10 overs. Perhaps the worst bowling effort you will see in recent times.

Harbhajan to bowl the final over. Behardien goes after him, heaving the first ball over midwicket for a six but falls off the next delivery caught on the leg side for 16.

Dean Elgar smashes the first ball he faces straight down the ground for a four and gets a single from the next ball.

17:17   De Villiers out for 61-ball 119, SA cross 400-run mark

SA 399-3 (47 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

India's bowlers seem to be in a very generous mood, gifting full toss regularly. De Villiers makes most of a full toss from Mohit hitting it over the covers for a four before a single takes him to 99.

Mohit seems to have lost his mojo as he bowls two successive wides to AB, trying to keep the ball out of his reach.

Finally AB drives a full toss to the sweeper cover fielder to race to his century from 57 balls, having hit eight sixes and three fours.

He becomes the third South African to hit a century in this match as the visitors look set to bat India out of the match with a total well in excess of 400.

He gets down on one knee and slogs Mohit over midwicket for another six.

AB continues his attack in the next over. He crashes Bhuvi over long-on for his 10th six of the innings and the next ball is lofted over the off-side for the same result.

Bhuvi brings India some relief with the wicket of AB, who is beaten by the slower bouncer and is caught behind. He walks to a loud cheer after a stunning innings of 119 from 61 balls, having hit 11 fours and three sixes.

17:00   De Villiers on the attack as South Africa cross 350-run mark

SA 367-2 (45 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

Mishra, who has two overs in hand, comes back. AB slog sweeps him but fails to get hold of it as Rohit does well at deep midwicket to stop the six as he takes the catch but has to throw the ball in before he crosses the ropes.

De Villiers on the charge now. He comes down the track and lofts Mishra over long-off for a six and repeats the shot off the next delivery for back to back sixes.

That helps South Africa reach 367 for two in 45 overs to post the highest total at the Wankhede stadium beating the previous record of 358 for six achieved by New Zealand against Canada.

AB looking set for his century, having smashed his way to 94 from just 54 balls, with the help of two fours and eight sixes.

The next ball is again sent into the stands over midwicket for the third six of the over. And yet again Faf goes to the ground in pain and this time India captain takes off his gloves and attends to the South African batsman, stretching his legs.

The last ball is a wide half volley which Faf smashes through the off-side for a four.

Axar has been shred to pieces, giving away 24 runs in his eighth over.

That four also raises the 150-run stand for the third wicket between Faf and AB from just 97 balls.

Pain no bar, nothing stopping South Africa at the moment!

Bhuvi comes back and he starts with a yorker which AB taps on the off-side and du Plessis calls him for a quick single.

Faf is literally batting on one leg at the moment but continues to attack the bowlers. Bhuvi gifts him a full toss which he carts over the covers for another six, he has hit four sixes and a boundary from his last six balls.

He attempts a short ball which Faf misses but two balls later hits another full toss over the off-side for a four.

The last ball is again short which Faf looks to pull but misses and immediately winces in pain again.

Finally, du Plessis decides to retire after a superb knock of 133 from 115 balls, having hit nine fours and six sixes.

35 runs from the last two overs take South Africa past the 350-run mark, in the 44th over.

David Miller is the new batsman and the perfect one to exploit the last few overs.

In the next over, du Plessis lofts Harbhajan straight down the ground for a six. He tries to blast another one through the off-side but Mishra at point fails to hold on for India's third drop of the innings.

16:09   Du Plessis, de Villiers push South Africa in middle overs

Dropping catches on such a good batting wicket can prove to be lethal and very demoralising for the bowlers.
