16:39   Jennings hits century on debut, England 288-5 at stumps

STUMPS - DAY 1

England 288-5 (94 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

Ashwin comes back with just a few minutes left for stumps. The first ball is short as Buttler crashes it through the covers for a four. That should make him feel better after enduring a torrid time against the spinners early on.

In the next over, Jadeja gets one to kick off the surface, hitting Stokes on the body, who manages to see off the over, which is the final one of the opening day.

England would be satisfied with their showing on Day 1 as they post 288 for five in 94 overs after electing to bat on a pitch which has given the spinners lot of encouragement, with the odd ball bouncing and turning.

For India, Ashwin was the standout bowler and managed to pull back things after Jennings (112) and Moeen (50) had put on 94 runs for the third wicket.

Jadeja was the other wicket-taker as he dismissed Cook for 46.

The day belonged to the young Jennings, who stroked a splendid 112 on his debut and brought up his maiden century in his first innings in Test cricket, with a stunning reverse sweep.

India will also be satisfied, having claimed five wickets, four of them through Ashwin. A few quick wickets on Day 2 would help them keep England below the 400-run mark, or else the visitors would hold the advantage if they manage to post a big first innings score.

STUMPS - DAY 1

England 288-5 (94 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

A no-ball from Jayant brings up the 250 for England, in the 82nd over. India have a gully in place along with the slip fielder for Stokes, who gets the edge off Jayant but it evades the gully fielder and gets him two runs in the process.

Buttler goes for the reverse sweep but fails to make connection and is hit on the pads and gets an inside edge off the last ball. He is having some problems against the turning ball.

The two spinners are doing a great job and creating a lot of problems for the two England batsmen, who are content to just bide their time and play for stumps with around 30 minutes left for stumps.

Ashwin gets a break after a good spell of eight overs, in which he took three wickets for 14 runs, making way for Jadeja.

Buttler continues to struggle as he looks to cut but gets a thick outside edge which goes past the slips for a four. He offers no shot to the last ball only to see it come in and pass close to the stumps.

Buttler plays another streaky shot, an inside edge off Jadeja on the leg side for a couple.

India's over rate has been pretty impressive, they finish their quota of 90 overs with still 20 minutes left for stumps.

Jadeja has a huge appeal for LBW turned down against Stokes. He strikes him again on the pads and this time it looks much closer but again umpire Bruce Oxenford turns down the appeal and the Indians decide to take the DRS.

Stokes has a close shave with the impact just outside the off-stump and the TV umpire stays with the on-field umpire's call. That was very close!

He flicks the last ball fine on the leg side past the leg slip fielder for a four.

England 244-4 (78 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

After a few overs, Jadeja gets a break as he is replaced by Jayant, with India keen to get the dangerous Stokes early, before he gets his eye in.

Jonny Bairstow and Stokes are both positive players and it doesn't take long before the former comes down and lofts Jayant over midwicket for his first boundary. Stokes has been watchful so far though, scoring just three runs from 31 balls faced.

The scoring rate has taken a sharp dip since the twin dismissals of Moeen and Jennings, with just 14 runs coming from the last seven overs.

15:06   Ashwin's double strike lifts India

England 231-4 (71 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

Ashwin comes back and immediately strikes in the first over of a new spell. Moeen goes for the slog sweep but gets a top edge and is caught on the leg side for 50.

Two balls later, Ashwin claims the big wicket of Jennings, who is caught in the gully after a good innings on 112, on his debut, having hit 13 fours in his 219-ball knock.

The Wankhede crowd is suddenly back to life as Ashwin's double strike reduces England to 231 for four, after 71 overs.
14:59   Jennings hits century, Moeen gets fifty to put England on top

England 230-2 (70 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

England are looking to go hard after the tea break. Moeen slams Jayant across the line on the leg side through midwicket twice in the over for two boundaries, in the 68th over.

Jennings, on 111, gets a lifeline as Kohli puts down a simple catch at slip off Jayant in the 70th over. But to his credit, Kohli was put off by the deflection of Parthiv's gloves as the debutant gets another lifeline.

Moeen completes his half-century from 102 balls with a single as England reach 230 for two in 70 overs.

14:48   Jennings hits century on debut to drive England forward

England 214-2 (66 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

Jadeja starts off proceedings after the tea break. The first ball is short as Moeen hits it through the leg side for a four and then sweeps the fourth ball for a single to square leg.

It is Jayant from the other end. He gets Moeen to edge one but it falls short of Kohli at slip as England get a single.

In the next over, Moeen dances down the track to Jadeja and lofts him over midwicket for a six. Jennings also continues his positive approach against the spinners and brings out the sweep shot yet again, hitting Jayant square on the leg side for a four.

14:18   Jennings hits century on debut, England 196-2 at tea

TEA - DAY 1

England 196-2 (62 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

This has been a superb innings from Jennings, after being dropped early on, even before he had opened his account. He survived a testing spell in the morning session and then also faced some testing overs from the Indian spin trio.

Unlike Haseeb Hameed, Jennings has been quite positive in his approach and used the sweep to good effect. Infact, he brought up his century with a reverse sweep.

England are sitting pretty on 196 for two in 62 overs at the tea break on Day 2.

Jennings is unbeaten on a splendid knpock of 103 from 196 balls, while Moeen has made 25 from 75 balls with the duo putting on an unbroken stand of 60 runs for the third wicket.

India need a few quick wickets in the post-tea session or else England are threatening to steal the first day's honours with a good batting display.

14:07   Jennings hits century on debut to drive England forward

England 192-2 (59 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

Jennings takes a single off Ashwin's last ball to take his score into the 90s. He survives a close shout for LBW in the off-spinner's next over as the Indians decide against the DRS with the ball looking down the leg side.

Moeen gets a lifeline off Umesh as Kohli is unable to hold on to a tough chance at third slip, diving full length to his left as it goes for a boundary. Two balls later, he plays a nice through the covers for a couple and keeps strike with a single from the last ball of the over.

Ashwin, who has taken one for 55 in 19 overs, gets a break with around 20 minutes left for tea as Jayant comes on from the Pavilion End as he starts his new spell with a maiden to Moeen, the first of the session.

Another change as Bhuvneshwar comes on from the other end. A couple of singles to Jennings, who takes his score to 96 and just a hit away from a century in his debut innings in Tests.

He brings up his century in some style as he reverse sweeps Jayant through thirdman for a four. The left-hander brought up his landmark from 186 balls, having hit 12 fours.
13:43   Jennings closes in on century, England make good progress

England 167-2 (50 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

Jayant comes back, replacing Jadeja, with two left-handers out in the middle. He bowled a good spell in the morning session from the Media End, but this time he is coming on from the other end, from the Pavilion end of the ground.

Jennings hits the fourth ball on the off-side for a single as just a run comes from the over.

Ashwin leaves Moeen gasping for air as he continues to beat the bat, this time Moeen looks to drive away from his body but is beaten by the turn.

Meanwhile, Jennings, who has been quiet since the lunch interval finally decides to break the shackles. He had just five runs from 29 balls since the break before he reverse sweeps Jayant through thirdman for a four. The next ball is full and wide as the debutant drives through the covers for another boundary to bring up England's 150, in the 44th over.

Jennings looks to reverse sweep Jadeja but gets it much finer than intended, going between the wicketkeeper and the slip fielder for a four. He edges the next ball which goes through the thirdman region for a couple.

Jennings is having a few close shaves as he again gets a thick outside edge which goes wide of the slip fielder for two runs as the debutant takes his score to 88.

Meanwhile, umpire Paul Reiffel has suffered an injury. Bhuvneshwar, throwing from deep square leg, hits square leg umpire Reiffel on the back of his head and he looks in some discomfort as the the England physio comes out to attend the Australian.

He looks to have suffered some sort of concussion and it looks unlikely he could continue.

So umpire Reiffel walks off the field as third umpire Marais Erasmus takes his place as the on-field umpire.

The game is held up briefly as the ICC match referee Jeff Crowe tries to get things organised behind the scenes.

Finally, Erasmus strides out to the middle as the game finally gets underway as around 10 minutes time lost.

Kohli brings in a pacer from the other end as Umesh is called into the attack. He bowls a maiden to Moeen as England reach 167 for two in 50 overs.

England 140-2 (41 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

Moeen Ali is all squared up as he gets a thick outside edge which flies past silly point for a single on the off-side.

Moeen looks to flick Jadeja through the leg side as it goes uppishly but falls just short of Pujara at midwicket.

In the next over, Ashwin gets one to turn big beating Moeen, who comes forward to defend. He then drives away from his body, but gets it in the gap through the covers for two runs.
12:33   Jennings hits half-century to give England a good start

England 136-1 (38 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

Jadeja resumes proceedings after the lunch break. Root drives the first ball gently through the off-side for a single and Jennings picks one on the leg side before his partner takes one to get three runs from the first over of the session.

Ashwin comes back from the Meida End, for a new spell. He beats Jennings with one that drifts in before turning away sharply. The next ball goes on straight as Jennings offers no shot and is lucky that it misses the stumps by a few inches.

Root gets the first boundary of the session as he plays a nice drive through the covers, timing it to perfection as Jadeja over pitches.

Ashwin and Jadeja would be looking to stop the flow of runs and create some pressure, especially on Jennings, who adopted a positive approach in the morning session.

11:40   Jennings hits fifty, England 117-1 at lunch on Day 1

LUNCH - DAY 1

England 117-1 (31 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

A good start by England as they make most of winning the toss to post 117 for one at lunch on Day 1.

Debutant opener Jennings led the way with a sparkling innings of 65 not out, having hit eight fours in his 112-ball knock.

He put on 99 runs for the opening wicket with Cook, who made 46, before he was stumped in Jadeja's first over.

Root was unbeaten on five at the lunch interval.

Left-hander Jennings impressed everyone, especially with the way how he handled the Indian spinners, after a shaky start. He was dropped on zero as Karun Nair put down a tough catch in the gully region off Yadav early in the England innings.

But he blossomed quite well after a shaky start and hit some delightful boundaries and used the sweep shot to good effect against Ashwin & Co.

India will be desperate for a few wickets after the lunch break, with the pitch threatening to offer a lot more assistance to the spinners as a few deliveries turned and bounced quite a deal in the morning session.

Stay tuned!

11:34

England 29-0 (10 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

Bhuvneshwar gets the first wicket for India as he traps Jennings leg before wicket for 10. The umpire had initially turned down the LBW appeal forcing the Indians to take the DRS review. He then finally gets off the mark as he makes most of two poor deliveries from Umesh, slashing it through point and then pulling it through midwicket for successive fours.

Bhuvneshwar squares up Jennings who looks to play it through the leg side but ends up defending it at the last minute as the pacer gets a little bit of movement.

England are off to a steady start as they reach 21 for no loss in five overs.

09:39

India 2-0 (2 ovs) vs England | Scorecard

England have a new opening pair in Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennings, both left-handers.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar opens the bowling for India and he will look to exploit some early help, if any, from a dry looking Wankhede pitch. Alastair Cook turns the second ball through the leg side for two runs to get England off the mark before he sees off the rest of the over.

Umesh Yadav to bowl the second over and facing him is debutant Keaton Jennings. The first ball is right on the mark, just on and around the off-stumps channel which the left-hander leaves alone and he does the same to the next few deliveries.

He looks to pull, rather swat a short ball but is struck on the body and he blocks the last ball

08:54   India looking to wrap up series in Mumbai
Welcome to the coverage of the fourth Test match between India and England at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, on Thursday.

India, who lead 2-0, will be hoping to continue their winning momentum and clinch the five-match series with another dominating performance at the Wankhede stadium.

Even if England manage a draw, India will win the series after the visitors' hat-trick of wins 2011 in England, 2012 in India and 2014 in England again.

In their last two Test meetings at the Wankhede, England had prevailed over India and the 2012 Test match will always be remembered as one where Kevin Pietersen played perhaps one of the finest knocks by an overseas batsman on Indian soil.

The tourists suffered a heavy loss in Mohali and are now expected to come hard at the hosts after spending a week away from the sub-continent in Dubai licking their wounds and recharging their batteries.
