Kings XI Punjab's announcement of replacing Yuvraj Singh, as captain of the franchise and handing over the leadership to Kumar Sangakkara has been well documented in the past few days.
The decision per se didn't come as much of a surprise though considering the Mohali outfit, under Yuvraj's captaincy, failed to convince as a team in the first two seasons despite making a sizeable investment in the acquisition of players.
While Kings XI reached the last four in the first season before disappointing in a game that mattered, their performance in the second season was disappointing to put it mildly.
A fifth place finish coupled with a lack of belief in Yuvraj's captaincy ensured the management went in for a change in captaincy ahead of the third season.
Sangakkara, the incumbent Sri Lankan captain, was perceived by many as a better leader and hence the appointment.
However, if Sangakkara is to be believed he's yet to be informed about his new role.
"The Kings XI officials haven't spoken to me as yet," says Sangakkara, adding, "I don't know if they have made a decision about the captaincy, or for that matter even have a concrete plan to change the leadership in the team."
The Sri Lankan captain feigns ignorance when asked if he is aware that Tom Moody, the Kings XI coach, wasn't happy with Yuvi's level of commitment and hence the change happened.
And as regards his taking over the reigns of the team, Sangakkara is equally diplomatic and non-commital.
"If Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh) is not going to be the captain then I have to make a decision, one that essentially is an if or an if not," he explains, before hesitating to explain further.
"Till that happens let me not say anything more on the issue," he begs off.
