The Pakistan Cricket Board on Thursday withdrew the Rs three million fine it had slapped on captain Shahid Afridi for the ball-biting episode in Perth while halving Akmal brothers Kamran and Umar's penalties.

PCB chairman Ijaz Butt told a news conference in Lahore that the fine on Afridi was withdrawn after consulting the International Cricket Council.

"We had sought clarification from the ICC on the Afridi case and have decided to end his fine," Butt said.

He said since Afridi was banned for two matches by the ICC for his ball-tampering incident in Australia early this year, the PCB decided it shouldn't penalise him for the same offence twice.

"That is why we have lifted the fine from him while the fines on Kamran and Umar have been reduced on advice of the appeals tribunal," he said.

He said Kamran's fine is now reduced to Rs 1.5 million from Rs three million and that of Umar Akmal from two million to one million rupees.

The PCB appeals tribunal judge has already ended the one-year ban on all-rounder Shoaib Malik and reduced his fine from two million to one million rupees.

The PCB banned and fined seven players in march on basis of an inquiry committee report into the team's poor performances in Australia where infighting was rife in the team.

Former captains Younis Khan, Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Yousuf were banned, along with Rana Naved, while Afridi, Kamran and Umar were fined.

The appeals of Younis and Rana are still pending with the appeals tribunal.

Younis was named in the shortlist of 35 players for the Asia Cup and England tour but not picked for the Asia Cup on Thursday.
