The Australian cricketers, who arrived here on Monday for a two Test series against India, have been provided with more than 100 security guards in military-style uniforms, who will be guarding them round the clock.

The corridors of hotel where the players checked in were filled with security guards and patrols were being conducted throughout the grounds.

Ricky Ponting's team didn't have to leave New Delhi airport at all because they were already booked on a connecting flight to Chandigarh.

Police blocked off the surrounding roads, making it nearly impossible for non-guests to get into the hotel, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Mitchell JohnsonAll vehicles approaching the area must go through two security checks and all guests' bags, including the Australian players' kit bags, were screened thoroughly.

The hotel is under constant electronic surveillance; all room doors are equipped with electronic locks accessible only by the occupant and selected hotel staff.

"We've had our pre-tour security visits and once again we've listened to the people we need to about our safety and security," Ponting said.

"The cricketers' association and Cricket Australia have kept us in the loop almost on a daily basis. We're very happy with the level of security we'll be afforded in India. That will all be forgotten about once game day comes around," he added.

Australia's first match is a three-day game against the Board President XI from Saturday.
