19:39   Play abandoned on Day 4 due to rain

NZ 101-2 (49 ovs) vs  India 217 | Scorecard

With the rain showing no signs of relenting, the umpires were forced to call off play on Day 4 in Southampton.

"Update: Play on Day 4 abandoned due to rain. We thank our fans who turned up and kept the tempo high. See you again, tomorrow," tweeted BCCI.

Only 141.1 overs have been bowled in the match so far, with rain also washing out the entire opening day's play on Friday.

The WTC final has a reserve day on June 23 to make up for the loss of playing time.

New Zealand will resume Day 5 on 101-2, having bowled out India for 217 to take the upper hand.

Captain Kane Williamson, batting on 12, and Ross Taylor, who is yet to score, will be looking to push for a significant first-innings lead if play restarts on Tuesday.
19:05   'WTC final shouldn't have been played in UK'

Former England captain Kevin Pietersen says an important one-off match like the ICC World Test Championship final should not be played in the UK, where the weather is very unpredictable.

"It pains me to say it, but a ONE OFF & incredibly important cricket game should NOT be played in the UK," he tweeted.

"If it was up to me, Dubai would always host a one off match like this WTC game. Neutral venue, fabulous stadium, guaranteed weather, excellent training facilities and a travel hub!

Oh, and ICC home is next to the stadium."

The rain continues to frustrate in Southampton. A few of the Indian players have come out of the dressing room and taking a walk around the Ageas Bowl.

The outfield, most of which is under covers, has taken a solid pounding from the persistent shower which has been going on since Sunday night.

The rain is showing no signs of relenting even though it has become a bit lighter. The groundstaff continue to toil, with the super-soppers in operation to drain the water from the covers.

The entire morning session has been washed out as the umpires called for the lunch break on Day 4.

"Lunch has been taken at the Hampshire Bowl in Southampton after no play was possible in the opening session of day four," tweeted ICC.

It remains to be seen if we get any play at all on the fourth day.

Welcome to the coverage of the ICC World Test Championship between India and New Zealand in Southampton on Monday.

The start of Day 4 is set to be delayed because of persistent rain.

It rained through the night in Southampton and the wet weather continues to play spoilsport at the Ageas Bowl.

The weather forecast is not encouraging either with rain forecast for remainder of the fourth day.

The opening day was washed out due to rain before New Zealand elected to bowl on a rain-curtailed Day 2.

Kyle Jamieson took five wickets and opener Devon Conway hit a half-century to give New Zealand the upper hand on Day 3.

Jamieson claimed 5-31, his fifth five-wicket haul in his eighth test, to help bowl out India for a below-par 217.

New Zealand reached 101-2, 116 runs behind, when bad light forced early stumps at the Ageas Bowl. Conway made 54 before chipping Ishant Sharma to Shami at mid-on in the final over.
