22:50   New Zealand's spinners destroy India in World T20 opener

NEW ZEALAND WIN BY 47 RUNS!!!

Ind 79-all out (18.1 ovs) vs NZ 126-7 | Scorecard

This is India's second worst total in T20 Internationals as their losing run against New Zealand continues in the shortest format of the game, having lost all five matches against the Kiwis.

The Nagpur pitch will once again be in the focus with the ball turning sharply right from the start.

The New Zealand spinners destroyed the Indian batting line-up with Santner 4-11, Sodhi 3-18 and McCullum 2-15 claiming nine wickets between them.

India's net run rate also takes a big beating after this heavy loss. They will look to bounce back when they take on arch-rivals Pakistan in a high-profile match in Kolkata on March 19.

NEW ZEALAND WIN BY 47 RUNS!!!

Ind 79-all out (18.1 ovs) vs NZ 126-7 | Scorecard

Dhoni not going down without a fight. The India captain looks to give the charge but he doesn't as Santner drops short which Dhoni pulls through midwicket for a four, the first of Santner's bowling, in his fourth and final over.

Dhoni looks for another big hit down the order but McCullum takes a superb catch at long-on diving forward.

Dhoni walks back for 30 as India look set for a humiliating defeat in the opening match of World T20.

Santner finishes with wonderful figures of four for 11 in four overs, the best figures by a New Zealand bowler in T20 Internationals.

Milne finishes off things in the next over as he bowls Ashish Nehra for a duck to send India crashing for a paltry 79 in 18.1 overs.

Ind 73-8 (17 ovs) vs NZ 126-7 | Scorecard

Anderson comes back as Dhoni has a wild swing at the first ball but misses it completely before he takes one from the second ball. It's only singles at the moment as just four runs come from that over, with the equation looking out of hand at the moment, with 67 needed from four overs for victory.

With the match slipping away, Dhoni briefly ignites some hope as he comes down the track and lofts Sodhi down the ground for a six.

But two balls later, he makes it worse for India with the wicket of Ashwin, who is stumped for 10 with the hosts slipping to 73 for eight in the 17th over.

Sodhi bowls a perfect leg-spinning delivery which draws Ashwin out of his crease before spinning past the face of his bat leaving Ronchi to complete an easy stumping.

Ashish Nehra has no clue about one which turns big before he throws his bat at the final delivery but the thick outside edge falls safely on the off-side and Dhoni turns down the single.

Ind 61-7 (15 ovs) vs NZ 126-7 | Scorecard

McCullum comes back and he sends down a tidy over, conceding just four singles as India struggle to 49 for seven in 12 overs, with another 78 needed from eight overs for victory.

Pacer Milne comes back. Ashwin takes a single from the first ball to thirdman to bring up India's 50, in the 13th over.

New Zealand continue to keep up the pressure as Milne concedes just four singles. India's last boundary came in the fifth over and since then nearly nine overs have passed away without a single four or a six.

Three runs off Santner's third over, who figures read three for seven in three overs.

The Kiwi spinners are just rushing through their overs with both Dhoni and Ashwin managing just singles.

Dhoni tries to heave Sodhi through the leg side but fails to make proper connection for two runs to midwicket but Sodhi still gives only four runs in that over.

India are 61 for seven in 15 overs with only three boundaries hit so far. They need another 66 runs from the last five overs for victory.

Ind 42-6 (10 ovs) vs NZ 126-7 | Scorecard

Still no bowling for leg-spinner Ish Sodhi as part-timer Elliott continues, who bowls another tidy over conceding just six runs for a total of 10 runs given in two overs.

Leg-spinner Sodhi comes on to bowl the ninth over. He strikes with his very first delivery with the big wicket of Kohli, who is caught behind for 23.

He walks off instantly without waiting for the umpire's decision as India slip further to 39 for five in the ninth over.

A dream start for Sodhi, as he gets the big wicket of Kohli in his opening over which goes for only two runs.

Spin from both ends as Santner is called into the attack. He traps Hardik Pandya leg before wicket as India slip to a lowly 42 for six, in the 10th over.

At the halfway stage, India are tottering on 42 for six in 10 overs, needing another 85 runs from the last 10 overs for victory with just four wickets in hand.

Dhoni will have to play out of his skin to take India to an unlikely victory on a wicket which is turning square at the moment.

New Zealand are yet to introduce fast bowler Adam Milne as part-time medium pacer Grant Elliott comes into the attack in place of Anderson, who bowled two overs for 13 runs with the new ball.

He starts with two dot balls to Kohli, who then takes a single on the leg side before Dhoni picks one through midwicket. A single to Kohli from the last ball ends a good first over from Elliott as India struggle to 29 for four after six overs.

Fast bowler Adam Milne finally comes into the attack. He oversteps off the first ball to give a no-ball but Kohli can't make most of the free hit and is caught at midwicket for a dot ball.

Ind 26-4 (5 ovs) vs NZ 126-7 | Scorecard

Despite the double-wicket over from Santner, New Zealand persist with pacer Anderson from the other end.

Kohli releases some pressure as he cuts the second ball behind point for a four through the vacant thirdman region. Two balls later he punches a full delivery through midwicket for another boundary followed by a single to make it nine runs from the over.

New Zealand juggling their bowlers early on as McCullum comes back, replacing Santner despite the left-armer taking two wickets in his first over.

Kohli flicks the second ball through square leg for one before Yuvraj sweeps the fourth ball fine for a boundary which also helps him get off the mark.

But the left-hander falls off the very next delivery, hitting it straight back to the bowler. The Kiwis go up in appeal as the umpire is unsure and refers it to third umpire, who rules it in the bowler's favour.

Yuvraj is dismissed for four as India collapse to 26 for four in the fifth over.

21:25   Dhawan fails with the bat, India lose early wicket

Ind 6-1 (1 ov) vs NZ 126-7 | Scorecard

New Zealand also open with spin as offie Nathan McCullum is handed the new ball. Rohit plays the first ball uppishly through the leg side for a single to get off the mark.

Dhawan is beaten off the next ball outside the off-stump before he takes a single through the off-side.

Rohit plays a risky loft through midwicket where Elliott does well run to his left from deep square leg but the two openers pick up three runs.

McCullum strikes with the fifth ball of the over. Dhawan plays a reckless sweep shot but fails to make connection and is trapped leg before wicket for one.

Just like New Zealand, India also lose a wicket in the first over of the innings.

NZ 126-7 (20 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

Great stuff from the Indian pacers with all of them including part-timer Raina claiming a wicket each. Hardik Pandya bowled just one over, conceding 10 runs but Raina did an excellent job with the ball and also claimed a vital run out.

Ronchi played a cameo at the end, hitting 21 from 11 balls, as New Zealand scored 15 runs from the final over of the innings, bowled by Nehra.

Anderson was the top-score for the Kiwis as he made 34 from 42 balls but the rest of the bowlers gave their wickets away with some poor shots.

India should fancy their chances of chasing down this total but they will need to be wary of New Zealand's three-man spin attack.

Stay tuned for India's run chase!

NZ 126-7 (20 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

A superb exhibition of fast bowling from Bumrah, who finishes with wonderful figures of one for 15 in his four overs.

Jadeja to bowl the 19th over. Elliott makes room and looks to hit over the off-side but is beaten as Dhoni appeals for stumping which is referred to the third umpire.

Dhoni did well to dislodge the bails in no time but Elliott managed to drag his feet back in time and is saved by a whisker. Good glovework from the Indian skipper.

Luke Ronchi makes room and lofts Jadeja over the off-side for a four to get a much-needed boundary for the Kiwis with three more singles from the last three balls making it eight from the over.

The experienced Nehra to bowl the final over of the innings. He also does well to bowl it full and on the stumps as New Zealand can only take singles before Elliott is run out off the third ball going for an impossible second run as Dhawan's flat throw catches him short.

Anderson also has a close shave in that over as he comes down the track but is lucky that the inside edge manages to take the ball away from Dhoni while fetching him a single.

A superb start from Jadeja, conceding just four runs in his opening over.

Raina makes it worse for New Zealand with the wicket of the experienced Taylor. It is his brilliance in the field that gets India the wicket as Raina dives to stop the ball on his follow through before flicking it back on to the stumps at the bowler's end with Taylor struggling to get back to his crease after taking a start.

19:16   WT20: NZ elect to bat; play 3 spinners vs India in Nagpur
India has never beaten New Zealand in a Twenty20 International. They played four games against the Kiwis and lost all of them.

New Zealand is the only country whom India have not beaten in Twenty20 Internationals.

India is in good form of late, winning seven matches on the trot. One more win and India will equal the world record of most consecutive wins in Twenty20 internationals of eight wins in a row -- a record jointly shared by England and Ireland.
Rajneesh Gupta presents some interesting facts ahead of the big game.
19:09
Check out how the two teams line-up for today's match:

India: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ashish Nehra, Jasprit Bumrah.

New Zealand: Kane Williamson (captain), Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Ross Taylor, Corey Anderson, Grant Elliott, Luke Ronchi (w/k), Mitchell Santner, Nathan McCullum, Adam Milne, Ish Sodhi.
19:07   New Zealand win toss, elect to bat vs India
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has won the toss and elected to bat against India in the opening match of the World T20 in Nagpur.

New Zealand have made a brave decision to field three spinners against India, leaving out the pacers Mitchell McClenaghan, Tim Southee and Trent Boult.

Nathan McCullum, Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi are the three frontline spinners for the visitors.

On the other hand, India have decided to play their settled combination, which means Hardik Pandya is the preferred all-rounder which means veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh is omitted yet again.
18:58
It will be interesting to see if India retain their trust in all-rounder Hardik Pandya or bring in off-spinner Harbhajan Singh to counter the threat of the dangerous left-handers in the Kiwi line-up, namely Corey Anderson and Colin Munro.

Also, remains to be seen if the Kiwis going in with three spinners or two and include a couple of all-rounders in their playing eleven.

18:55   Favourites India take on confident New Zealand in opener
Welcome to the coverage of the opening match of the World T20 between India and New Zealand at the Vidarbha Cricket Association, in Nagpur, on Tuesday.

The sixth edition of the World T20 kicks off with a high-voltage clash between the 2007 champions and the high-flying Kiwis, who have never lost to the Indians in four T20 Internationals.

The superb build-up run has made India the clear favourites for an unprecedented second World Twenty20 title but the in-form hosts will have to guard against complacency when they take on a spirited New Zealand.

No host country has won the T20 world title in the last five editions and none has repeated a title triumph, but India's settled combination, led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and familiarity with the conditions make them the odds-on favourites to script history.

The 2007 Champions, India go into the Super 10 Group 2 clash against New Zealand with their tails up as the number one ranked team in the world.

India have been on a roll in the shortest form of the game, winning their last seven outings which included a 3-0 whitewash of World 50-over champions Australia in the latter's backyard.
