The right-hander goes for a big heave on the leg side against Rabada but is caught at deep midwicket after a sensational knock of 83 from 44 balls, hitting six fours and four sixes. After looking in control throughout, he walks back disappointed hitting a full toss straight into the hands of the fielder.

Moeen Ali settles some nerves in the dressing room as he slaps Rabada for a boundary through midwicket to make it seven needed from nine balls.

No stopping Root as he goes after Morris, hitting the first two balls from Morris for boundaries as the pacer strays on both sides of the wicket. Morris bowls a quick bouncer which beats Root's intended pull shot but the wicketkeeper also fails to collect to give away four byes, as England inch closer with 16 needed from 15 balls.

Ali gets an inside edge off the last ball which goes fine on the leg side where Abbott fails to stop it, giving the third four of the over, which goes for 17 runs.

22:32   Root blasts half-century to keep England in the hunt

Eng 183-4 (15 ovs) vs SA 229-4 |  Scorecard

Medium pacer Chris Morris comes into the attack as Tahir is held back after two good overs. And England get some momentum back as Root hits Morris for a six over thirdman and Buttler getting the last ball through the same region for a four to score 15 runs from Morris's first over.

Duminy starts his third over with a long hop which Roots pull over midwicket for a four. Later in the over he pulls another short ball square on the leg side but Amla makes a good stop on the ropes to keep it down to two. It is a poor over from Duminy as he drops short again as Buttler pulls it square for a six to get 15 runs from the 12th over.

The experienced Steyn, who was hit for 23 runs in his first over, comes back. But his struggles continue as he gives away 12 runs in his second over, including a leg side freebie to Root, which is glanced fine for a four, who races to 43 from 24 balls.

South Africa are desperate for a breakthrough as leg-spinner Tahir is called back for his second spell. He bowls a big wide down the leg side as the keeper fails to collect to give away three wides.

And despite not getting a boundary in Tahir's third over, England still manage to get 10 runs from it to keep their run chase on track.

Root reverse paddles pacer Morris for a six over thirdman for a six to bring up his fifty in some style, from just 29 balls.

England are 183 for four in 15 overs, needing 47 runs from the last five overs for victory.

22:10   England lose way after a blazing start, SA on top

Eng 118-4 (10 ovs) vs SA 229-4 |  Scorecard

The spinners have been able to pull back things slightly as just 20 runs have come from the first three overs of spin. And the pressure pays off as Duminy gets the wicket of England captain who drags it back on to the stumps, trying to force it off the backfoot through the off-side.

Joe Root looks to get the momentum as he blasts Duminy's last ball for a six to take the score to 118 for four at the halfway stage, with another 112 runs needed from 60 balls for victory.

The two spinners have bowled two overs each, for combined figures of one for 29 in four overs to lead South Africa's fightback with the ball after England had got off to a flier.
22:01   Roy's attack gives England a blazing start

Eng 103-3 (8 ovs) vs SA 229-4 |  Scorecard

A positive move from England as Ben Stokes gets a promotion in the batting order to continue with the aggressive approach.

Despite a horror first over, Rabada is brought back. Stokes hammers a short wide delivery through the off-side for his first boundary.

Roy continues his attacking approach as he shuffles across and scoops it over the keeper for a six. He tries to repeat the shot but this time he fails to make proper connection and is caught on the leg side by wicketkeeper de Kock after a whirlwind innings of 43 from 16 balls, laced with five fours and three sixes.

Abbott attempts a bouncer to Stokes but it goes too high and even beats the keeper for five wides as 14 runs come from the fifth over.

Stokes take up the initiative after Roy's dismissal as he whacks Rabada for six over midwicket but the bowler has the last laugh. Three balls later Stokes hit a full toss straight into the hands of the fielder at deep square leg to fall for 15.

England are well ahead of the required run rate, as they race to 89 for three in six overs, needing another 141 runs from 14 overs for victory at nearly 10 runs per over.

Leg-spinner Imran Tahir is called into the attack immediately at the end of the six overs of Powerplay.

He makes a tidy start under the circumstances, giving away just seven runs in his first over, with Joe Root and Eoin Morgan look to consolidate after England's fiery start.

It's spin from both ends as part-timer Duminy comes on from the other end. He also concedes seven in his first over with England going past the 100-run mark, in the eighth over.

England out of the blocks in smashing fashion and it is young pacer Kagiso Rabada, who suffers in the very first over of the innings.

Jason Roy starts the England innings with two consecutive fours before Rabada bowls a high bouncer which goes over the keeper for five wides. Roy adds another couple of boundaries in the over as Rabada is hit for 21 runs in his first over, including the four fours hit by Roy.

Dale Steyn to bowl the second over. Alex Hales hits the first ball straight to Kyle Abbott at short fine leg who fails to take the catch and also gives away a four. Hales makes most of the reprieve as he flicks Steyn for back to back boundaries before Roy lofts the fift ball down the ground for a four and flicks the last ball over fine leg for a six.

Roy has smashed 26 from just eight balls, inclusive of five fours and a six, while Hales has hit 13 from four balls as England race to 44 for no loss in two overs. What an amazing start to the run chase and the Wankhede crowd look set for another huge run feast!

Abbott replaces Rabada and he is under the attack right away as Hales pulls the first ball for a four. But the pacer gets revenge, getting Hales leg before wicket for 17 before no stopping Roy at the other end, who heaves the fifth ball from Abbott over midwicket for a six.

England are off to a smashing start as they race to 56 for one in three overs with Roy hitting 33 from 10 balls.

SA 229-4 (20 ovs) vs Eng |  Scorecard

Jordan, who was hit for 22 runs in his first over by Amla, is back into the attack. The second ball is on the legs as David Miller flicks it fine for his first boundary with singles coming from the remaining five deliveries of the over.

Willey bowling it full and on the stumps as just three singles come from the first three balls. But he overpitches the fourth ball and Miller is happy to despatch the full toss over the leg side fence for a six to get 11 runs from the over.

Topley comes back and gets slammed for two consecutive sixes over the off-side by Duminy to take South Africa past the 200-run mark, in the 19th over. Topley is hit for 18 runs in his second over as he ends up conceding 33 runs in his two overs.

Jordan, who was hit for 31 runs in two overs, to bowl the final over. He gifts Duminy a full toss who carts it over long-on for a six to bring up his fifty in grand style, from just 26 balls as England's nightmare performance with the ball continues.

Duminy and Miller bring up their 50-run partnership in the final over from just 25 balls before the latter clobbers another full toss over square leg for the second six of the over. Miller slashes the last ball of the over square on the off-side for a boundary to take South Africa to a huge 229 for four in their 20 overs.

Duminy finishes unbeaten on a quickfire knock of 54 from 28 balls, having hit three fours and three sixes, while Miller slammed 28 from 12 balls, hitting two sixes and as many fours.

SA 173-3 (16 ovs) vs Eng |  Scorecard

With spinners managing to keep things a big quiet as compared to the pacers, England decide to introduce part-timer Joe Root. Duminy is gifted a boundary as Alex Hales misfields at long-on before the left-hander hits the fifth ball through fine leg to make it back to back fours to get 13 from Root's first over as Proteas race past the 150-run mark, in the 14th over.

Stokes comes back into the attack and even he struggles to check the flow of runs. Faf du Plessis plays the Dilscoop, scooping the ball over the keeper's head for a four, he tries the shot again but fails to make connection and wicketkeeper Jos Buttler also fails to gather to give away two byes.

The fifth ball of the over is a full toss on the pads and Duminy flicks the freebie past short fine leg for a four to get 14 runs from Stokes's second over with South Africa progressing to 166 for three in 15 overs, still maintaining the run rate of over 11, and looking on course for a total around the 225-run mark.

Willey comes back into the attack after going for a lot of runs with the new ball. He bags the key wicket of Faf du Plessis, who is caught on the deep on the leg side for 17 as South Africa are reduced to 173 for four in 16 overs.
20:23   Amla, de Kock blast 50s, SA set for huge score vs England

SA 134-3 (12 ovs) vs Eng |  Scorecard

This is relentless from South Africa as new batsman AB de Villiers also decides to get going early on in his innings.

Leg-spinner Rashid suffers as AB hits him for two consecutive sixes over the leg side but the spinner gets revenge with the big scalp. AB comes down the track for another big hit through the leg side against the spin but gets a thick outside edge and is caught on the off-side for 16.

The two spinners bowling in tandem but the flow of run continues. Amla ensuring that the dismissal of AB does not affect the momentum as he heaves Ali over midwicket for another six, which brings up his fifty, from just 25 balls, having slammed seven fours and three sixes.

At the halfway stage, South Africa looking on course for a massive score as they reach 125 for two in 10 overs with Amla on 54 from 25 balls and Faf du Plessis on three.

Rashid finally manages to send down a tidy over, conceding just three singles but despite that his figures read one for 30 in three overs.

The two spinners doing well to bring England back into the contest. Ali strikes with the big wicket of Amla, who looks to hit it across line but fails to make connection is dismissed leg before wicket after a fine knock of 58 from 31 balls, laced with seven fours and three sixes.

South Africa are sitting pretty on 134 for three in 12 overs, scoring at more than 11 runs per over and with a lot of attacking batsmen still to follow.

20:08   Amla, de Kock give South Africa a flying start vs England

SA 100-1 (8 ovs) vs Eng |  Scorecard

England introduce spin early as off-spinner Moeen Ali is called into the attack. Now Amla joins in the party as he smashes the first ball from the spinner through the covers for a four and repeats the shot two balls later for the same result.

Amla tries another shot through the off-side as it goes in the air but Topley in the covers iis unable to take the straightforward catch to give the right-hander a lifeline.

De Kock plays another fine, late cutting Ali past the wicketkeeper for another four as South Africa race past the 50-run mark, in the fourth over.

Amla on the attack now as he goes after pacer Chris Jordan in his first over, smashing him for 22 runs including four boundaries and a six. No wild slogging from Amla but hitting proper cricketing shots, managing to find the gaps on both sides of the wicket including a pull shot over fine leg for a six.

Leg-spinner Adil Rashid comes into the attack with England desperate to make a breakthrough to stop South Africa's charge. De Kock hits the first ball for a boundary through the leg side to race to his fifty, from just 21 balls, having hit seven fours and three sixes. Amla not holding back either as he slog sweeps the last ball over the midwicket fence for a six as the carnage continues.

Ali makes the crucial breakthrough with the key wicket of de Kock, who is caught at deep square after a smashing knock of 52 from just 24 balls, having hit seven fours and three sixes. 19:44   De Kock's attack gives South Africa a flying start vs England

SA 37-0 (3 ovs) vs Eng |  Scorecard

David Willey opened the bowling for England as South Africa opted to open with Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock with AB de Villiers slotted in at No. 4.

A tidy start from the left-arm pacer as the two batsmen pick a single each from the opening over of the game.

Another left-arm pacer from the other end. But Reece Topley is hit for runs in his very first over. De Kock slashes the first ball over the off-side for a six and follows it up with two more boundaries as Topley goes for 15 runs in his first over. Amla survived a huge appeal for leg before wicket in that over as he looked to whip the last ball through the leg side and failed to make contact but the umpire ruled in his favour.

De Kock takes Willey apart in his second over. He gives the pacer the charge and lofts him down the ground for a straight six followed by back to back boundaries. The left-hander ended the over with another huge six over the off-side to get 20 runs as South Africa raced to 37 for no loss in three overs with de Kock smashing 36 from 15 balls and Amla on one.

19:10   Unchanged England elect to bowl against South Africa in Mumbai
England captain Eoin Morgan has won the toss and elected to bowl against South Africa at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, on Friday.

England, who were beaten by West Indies by six wickets in their first match at the same venue on Wednesday, have decided to retain the same team against the Proteas.

The dew is expected to hamper the bowlers in the second half of the match as was seen in the first match between England and the West Indies, and South Africa would be looking to post a huge score in the region of around the 200-run mark to provide the extra cushion for their bowlers.

South Africa have just one specialist spinner in leggie Imran Tahir along with part-timer J P Duminy to bowl part-time off-spin, while having four fast bowlers in Dale Steyn, Kagiso Rabada, Kyle Abbott and Chris Morris.

"It's nice to get a win early and hopefully we can make an adjustment again on a new wicket," captain Kane Williamson said.

Australia captain Steven Smith said he too would have liked to bat first on a dry wicket at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium.

Australia, who will hope to make a winning start to their bid for an elusive World Twenty20 title, have had a problem of plenty at the top of the batting order and Smith confirmed Usman Khawaja will open the innings with Shane Watson.
