Dhoni takes a big gamble by getting Kohli to bowl the last over with eight to get from six balls for an unlikely victory.

The first ball is full as Simmons drives it on the leg side for a single before Russell has a wild swing but fails to make contact. He has a wild swing at the third ball which goes square on the leg side for a boundary.

The next ball is smashed high over midwicket for a six as West Indies clinch victory to storm into the final of World T20 leaving the fans at the Wankhede completely stunned.

Simmons played a key role in the victory as he slammed 82 not out from 51 balls, hitting seven fours and five sixes, while Russell was unbeaten on a quickfire knock of 43 from 20 balls, hitting three fours and fours sixes. Infact, Simmons lived quite a charmed life out in the middle, getting dismissed thrice off no-balls, which in the end proved very crucial.

- WI 173-3 (18 ovs) vs India 192-2 | SCORECARD

West Indies are firmly back in the contest, with 42 needed from four overs for victory.

The experienced Nehra, who has one over in hand, is back. Two singles from the first three balls before Russell seems to have mishit the pull shot but it still carries all the way for a six over midwicket. Two more singles make it 10 runs from the 17th over, leaving 32 needed from three overs for victory.

Bumrah to bowl the crucial 18th over. He starts with a slower bouncer which decieves before two dot balls in a row. Simmons heaves the fourth ball over midwicket where Jadeja does well to take the catch but has touched the boundary skirting as he fell over. Simmons gets his third lifeline as he is called back again and the six is a crucial blow for India as it brings up the 50-run stand for the fourth wicket. That was a superb catch, but he was denied by a few millimetres.

Simmons is living a charmed life and has already got three reprieves. He drives the fifth ball through the off-side for two runs before hittting the last ball over thirdman for a four.

Simmons has smashed his way to 81 from 49 balls, to take West Indies to 173 for three in 18 overs, with 20 needed from two overs for victory.

22:14   Simmons slams fifty, West Indies still in the hunt

- WI 151-3 (16 ovs) vs India 192-2 | SCORECARD

Andre Russell looks keen to get into the attack mode right from the start. He makes room and smashes Pandya past mid-off for a four and two balls later launches him high over midwicket for a huge six, which goes in the second tier of the Sachin Tendulkar stand.

Pandya ends the over on a high with the wicket of Simmons, who hits it straight into the hands of the fielder in the covers.

And it is the no-ball horror revisited for the Indians as Pandya has overstepped and Simmons, who was making his way back after scoring 50 from 36 balls is called back. He makes most of the free hit, carting it over midwicket for a six.

Pandya has been smashed for 18 runs in that over as West Indies reach 138 for three in 15 overs, needing 55 from five overs for victory.

Dhoni brings back his death overs specialist Bumrah, who still has two overs in hand. Russell smashes the first ball straight back but gets just a single before Simmons gets a thick outside edge for a four over the thirdman region.

22:02   Kohli strikes with the ball, West Indies lose 3rd wicket

- WI 120-3 (14 ovs) vs India 192-2 | SCORECARD

The boundaries continue to flow for West Indies. This time Simmons makes most as Jadeja errs with his line, smashing him through the off-side for two boundaries as 12 runs come from the over.

With the specialist bowlers struggling to make an impact, Dhoni decides to gamble with India's man of the moment Kohli, who has been in amazing form with the bat but hasn't bowled in quite a while.

And it turns out to be a masterstroke as Kohli strikes with his very first delivery. Charles hits it straight down the throat of Rohit at long-off to fall after an entertaining innings of 52 from 36 balls, after he had put on a quickfire stand of 97 runs from 62 balls for the third wicket.

Simmons plays two dot balls before taking a single to bring up his fifty, from 35 balls.

A superb over from Kohli under the circumstances, giving away just four runs while making an important breakthrough to pull things back for India.

West Indies are 120 for three in 14 overs, needing another 73 runs from six overs for victory at over 12 runs per over. They have a few big hitting batsmen still to come and the match looks set for a thrilling finish.
21:52   Charles slams 30-ball fifty to lead Windies fightback

- WI 104-2 (12 ovs) vs India 192-2 | SCORECARD

West Indies have done well to silence the crowd at the Wankhede stadium.

Jadeja comes back for a new spell and immediately Simmons carts him over midwicket for a six and two balls later he smashes a wide delivery through for a four.

The last ball is a high full toss as Simmons taps it on the leg side and is surprised that it was not given a no-ball for height. The West Indies dugout was unhappy too.

Charles pulls Pandya for a four over midwicket to race to his fifty from just 30 balls, with seven fours and two sixes, as West Indies zip past the 100-run mark, in the 12th over.

West Indies in contention on 104 for two in 12 overs, needing another 89 runs in eight overs for victory.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya comes into the attack. West Indies are not going down without a fight as Charles swings Pandya over midwicket for a four to get eight runs from the eighth over.

Charles takes on Ashwin in his next over. He lofts the first ball over midwicket for a six before hitting the third ball over the same region for a four.

Simmons steps out to the last ball and lofts it over the covers as Jadeja does well to keep it down to two with Ashwin conceding 13 runs, he has given away 20 in two overs.

Charles and Simmons have launched a good counter-attack, putting on 50 runs for the third wicket from 34 balls.

Pandya starts his second over with a slow bouncer which deceives Charles. He has a swing at the next ball but gets a thick outside edge which flies over thirdman for a six. He tries a bouncer which Charles pulls over short fine leg for a boundary.

At the halfway stage, West Indies have recovered to reach 84 for two in 10 overs, needing 109 runs from the remaining 10 overs for victory. Interestingly, India were 86 for one at the same stage.

Charles has smashed his way to 45 from 28 balls, while Simmons has hit 23 from 20 balls.

- WI 51-2 (7 ovs) vs India 192-2 | SCORECARD

Spin brought on as Ravindra Jadeja comes into the attack ahead of Ravichandran Ashwin.

Charles takes a single from the first ball before Simmons turns the next on the leg side for two runs.

He smashes the third ball straight back over the bowler's head for a six and picks two more runs from the last ball as Jadeja is hit for 11 in his first over.

Those two early wickets have pegged back West Indies as they reach 44 for two in six overs.

Double change for India as spinners come on from both ends as Ravi Ashwin is brought into the attack.

Simmons, playing his first match of the tournament, looking in good touch. Ashwin drops slightly short as Simmons cuts it past point for a four but perished two deliveries later attempting a similar shot, with Bumrah doing well to take a low catch diving to his right.

But hold on, Ashwin has overstepped and Simmons is called back halfway through his walk to the pavilion. And to rub insult to injury, West Indies have a free hit and a lifeline for Simmons.

Simmons can't make most of the free hit as Ashwin bowls it full and wide but West Indies manage to get past the 50-run mark, in the seventh over.

- WI 33-2 (5 ovs) vs India 192-2 | SCORECARD

Charles looks to counter-attack as he pulls the first ball of Bumrah's first over midwicket for a four and the next ball is through the fine leg region for another boundary.

A single from the fourth ball before new batsman Lendl Simmons defends the last two balls.

Charles is foxed by a slower bouncer from Nehra as he goes for the pull but is way too early into the shot.

In the same over, Simmons gets off the mark with a boundary as he pulls the fifth ball of the over through square leg.

India's pacers have done the job, picking up a wicket each to put India in the driver's seat right at the start of their innings.

West Indies are struggling on 33 for two in five overs, needing another 160 runs from 15 overs for victory.

- WI 19-2 (3 ovs) vs India 192-2 | SCORECARD

Johnson Charles smashes a full delivery from Nehra straight back down the ground past a diving Pandya at mid-on for a four. He is hit on the pads off the next ball as Nehra appeal for LBW but the impact is a bit too high.

He looks to pull a short ball from Nehra but is too early into the shot and is struck on the body as he picks up a leg bye.

Samuels has a wild swing but gets a leading edge which lobs on the off-side and is caught by Rahane in the covers.

Samuels is dismissed for eight to leave West Indies in big trouble at 19 for two in three overs with their two big batsmen back in the hut in the first three overs.

21:06   Gayle fails with the bat, West Indies lose early wicket

- WI 14-1 (2 ovs) vs India 192-2 | SCORECARD

The experienced Ashish Nehra to open the bowling for India. Chris Gayle walks out to a huge cheer from the Indians fans at Wankhede and alongside him is Johnson Charles.

Charles turns the first ball on the leg side for one before Gayle has a look at a few deliveries. Nehra drops one short and Gayle has had enough as he pulls it through midwicket for a four and keeps strike with a single from the last ball.

No spin first up against Gayle as Jasprit Bumrah comes in to bowl the second over.

He strikes with his very first wicket with the big wicket of Gayle, who misses a full toss which shapes in slightly and is bowled for five.

A massive wicket for India so early in the innings and it is the young Bumrah who delivers.

Marlon Samuels gets an edge two balls later which goes through thirdman for a four before he slaps the last ball square on the off-side for another boundary.

West Indies in trouble at 14 for one in two overs.

Bravo to bowl the final over. Kohli holes out the second ball on the leg side as Simmons at deep midwicket comes around and gets to the ball but is unable to hold on to a tough chance.

The fourth ball is a slower bouncer which Dhoni looks to pull but is unable to time it as the duo steal another couple of runs and a misfield gets them three runs actually off that delivery.

The fifth delivery is full as Kohli flicks it over midwicket for a four before a single from the last ball takes India to a huge 192 for two in their 20 overs.

- India 180-2 (19 ovs) vs WI | SCORECARD

Bravo starts his new spell with a very slow full toss to Dhoni, who can only flick it to short fine leg for one. A few balls later Kohli plays an uppish drive to long-on where Brathwaite comes charging in but can neither get to the ball or stop the boundary. West Indies have been very poor in the field today.

However, two balls later, Kohli gets one off the middle, driving it in some style through the covers for a delightful boundary to race to 63 from 38 balls.

India are 161 for two in 18 overs and with two of their best batsmen out in the middle, they would be looking to reach around the 190-run mark if not more.

Russell to bowl the 19th over. A single to Dhoni from the first ball before Kohli is made to run hard by his captain for two runs through point. The next ball is a length which Kohli despatches over long-on for his first six of the innings. Russell bowls a yorker which Kohli digs out to square leg and Dhoni once again ensures they pick up two runs to leave Kohli panting for breath.

Kohli has cut loose here. A full delivery outside the off-stump is smashed through the covers for another four as the fielder at cover got his hands to it but could only tip it over. The last ball is a full toss which Kohli drives straight back past the bowler for another four as Russell went for 19 runs in his final over to finish with one for 47 in four overs.

The Kohli-Dhoni partnership is pulling India towards a huge total as the duo have put on 50 runs from 21 balls for the third wicket, in which Kohli hit 40 from 14 balls and Dhoni made 11 from seven balls.

Kohli has taken centrestage, hitting 27 from the last two overs of the innings.

West Indies make the breakthrough with the wicket of Rahane, who holes out at deep midwicket after a good innings of 40 from 35 balls. A short ball from Russell but Rahane could not get enough elevation as he walked back after a good partnership of 66 runs from 50 balls for the second wicket to lay the foundation.

A good over from Russell, conceding six runs while picking up the wicket but to the Indians fans' delight, captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni walks out to the middle.

Dhoni resorting to some fancy shots as shuffles across and paddles medium pacer Brathwaite over short fine leg for his first four followed by two runs through the off-side. He looks keen to go on the attack right from the start.

Brathwaite attempts a slower bouncer as Kohli has enough time to pull through the vacant fine leg region for a four. Two runs from the next ball brings up Kohli's fifty from 33 balls as the Wankhede crowd erupts in unison.

This is Kohli's third half-century in five innings in the World T20 and he looks keen for another big knock here.

India are looking good for a score around the 190-run mark as they reach 150 for two in 17 overs.

Rahane and Kohli have been brilliant in their running between the wickets. Benn takes over from Badree, who bowled a good spell of one for 26 in four overs. Another tidy over from Benn, conceding just seven runs as India reach 98 for one in 12 overs.

Rahane, who is batting on 35 from 29 balls, will need to take a few risks and try to hit a few boundaries to take the pressure of Kohli at the other end, who is starting to get his eye in, batting on 16 from 14 balls.

Bravo comes back for his second spell. Two singles from the first two balls brings up India's 100 in 12.2 overs, laying a solid foundation for a huge total.

India have ensured that the momentum does not drop as they keep the scoreboard moving at a good rate with ones and twos, with superb running between the wickets.

A full toss on the pads is flicked square by Kohli, who gets a boundary despite Russell making a good effort on the ropes. He comes down the track to the next ball and slaps Bravo through the covers for two more runs before keeping strike with a single from the last ball.

India looking comfortable on 109 for one in 13 overs, scoring at over eight runs per over. They will need to lift their scoring rate in the next few overs to put themselves on course for a total around the 200-run mark.

Rahane is batting well on 36 from 30 balls, but he needs to go for his shots with a lot of wickets in hand, while Kohli is batting well on 26 from 19 balls.

19:45   India in control after a good start vs WI in semis

- India 86-1 (10 ovs) vs WI | SCORECARD

Dwayne Bravo comes into the attack to bowl the ninth over. He bowls a quick short ball to Kohli, who offers no shot. Bravo attempts another shot ball and this time it is called a no-ball for the second bouncer of the over resulting in a free-hit which Kohli can't make most of as Bravo beats him with a well executed slower ball.

Kohli (1) gets a lifeline off the third ball of the eighth over as Bravo fails to hit the stumps from close range on his follow through with the Indian right-hander way out of his crease. That could prove to be very costly for the West Indians. He gets another reprieve off the next delivery as wicketkeeper Dinesh Ramdin fails to collect the ball and break the stumps with Kohli again struggling to make his crease as he came back for a risky second run.

Kohli comes down the track and tries to blast Bravo through the off-side but gets a thick outside edge which goes for a four followed by two runs to midwicket with Bravo going for 10 in his first over.

Badree will bowl out quite early, at the halfway stage for West Indies. He starts with a leg side wide before Rahane slaps it through the covers for two runs followed by one to midwicket. Badree has bowled quite a lot of short balls and this time the in-form Kohli pulls it through midwicket for a four.

He strikes with the key wicket of Rohit, who is trapped leg before wicket after a superb innings of 43 from 31 balls, including three fours and three sixes, putting on 62 runs for the opening wicket with Rahane to give his team a flying start.

That was sliding straight on as Rohit looked to hit it across the line but missed and struck in front of the stumps.

West Indies keep shuffling their bowlers as Russell comes in for Benn, who bowled just one over. India finally lost patience with the struggling Dhawan, who managed just 43 runs (1, 6, 23 and 13)  in the four innings in the World T20.

Mumbai batsman Rahane gets another chance to prove his worth in the T20 format in front of his home fans. He didn't have a good time in the two-warm up matches against West Indies and South Africa ahead of the World T20, scoring just seven and 11.

In his last appearance for India in T20s, Rahane was dismissed for a duck against Pakistan in the Asia Cup in Dhaka last month.

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old Pandey has played two T20Is, which were against Zimbabwe in Harare in July, last year.

The Karnataka batsman has also played four ODIs scoring a match-winning century against Australia Down Under this year.

17:45   Can resurgent West Indies stop favourites India in semis?
Welcome to the coverage of the second semi-final between India and West Indies in the ICC World T20 in Mumbai, on Thursday.

Virat Kohli's sublime form will be up against the brute force of Chris Gayle when title contenders India clash against a flamboyant West Indies in what promises to be a battle of nerves in the second semi-final match of the ICC World Twenty20, in Mumbai, on Thursday.

The no-holds barred battle between the 2007 champions India and the 2012 title-winners West Indies is expected to ultimately be decided by the ability of the players to handle the pressure in front of a full house at a venue where the hosts captured their second ODI World Cup crown almost five years ago.

Many believe that the semi-final is likely to hinge on who emerges on top in the battle between the big-hitting West Indian batsmen and India's wily spinners.

The strong form of his spinners and accuracy of pacemen Ashish Nehra and Jasprit Bumrah in the death overs will give him hope of taming the West Indies batsmen on a surface that has done little to help the bowlers in three matches.

South Africa saw a 230-run target chased down by England, who were at the receiving end of Chris Gayle's assault when they failed to defend a score of 182.

At the same ground, which has relatively short boundaries, Afghanistan gave South Africa a scare while chasing 209 until they lost too many wickets in the second half of the innings.

Afghanistan also inflicted the only Super 10s defeat on the West Indies, their spinners finding a way to restrict their powerful batsmen in Nagpur.

The 2012 champions rested Gayle for that game and a hamstring injury to Andre Fletcher, who has since been ruled out of the tournament and replaced by Lendl Simmons, hampered their chase further.

But the inability to chase down a modest 124 would have not gone unnoticed and skipper Darren Sammy is hoping it was just one-off and not a sign of inconsistency.
