SA WIN  BY 257 RUNS!!!

WI 151-all out (33.1 ovs) vs SA 408-5 | Scorecard

Steyn comes back as Holder greets him by crashing the pacer's second ball over the covers for a six.

But Steyn gets hie revenge as Holder top edges the pull shot and is caught at mid-on after a good hand of 56 from 48 balls.

West Indies fold in the next over as Morkel gets the wicket of Benn, caught at first slip for one. The extra bounce accounted for the left-hander who could only fend it to first slip to end a disappointing effort by West Indies.

West Indies are bowled out for 151 to crash to a massive 257-run defeat, their second from four matches in the World Cup.

No. 9 Holder was the top scorer for West Indies with 56 and the only batsman to cross the 50-run mark.

This was after South Africa posted a massive 408 in their 50 overs courtesy of AB de Villiers, who played a sensational innings of 162 from 66 balls.

 WI 144-8 (32 ovs) vs SA 408-5 | Scorecard

Taylor top edges the pull shot off Abbott which goes over the keeper for a single. Holder plays a cracking pull shot for a boundary through midwicket before he takes two runs on the leg side and retains strike with a single from the last ball.

Holder takes a single on the off-side to complete his fifty from 44 balls, having hit 3 fours and 3 sixes. A good knock from the tall fast bowler after being hit for plenty of runs by AB de Villiers in the final few overs.

Taylor on the attack now as he lofts Morkel over the off-side for a four and repeats the shot off the last ball but a good stop by Rossouw on the boundary keeps it down to two.
15:29
 WI 129-8 (30 ovs) vs SA 408-5 | Scorecard

Abbott, who rocked West Indies early with two wickets, comes back for another spell as South Africa decide to go for the kill.

He nearly strikes as Holder is struck on the pads but umpire Ian Gould rules it not out. South Africa make a mistake by not going for the review which would have gone in their favour with the ball looking set to hit the stumps.

Tahir follows it up with a maiden over to Jerome Taylor, who plays it with a lot of caution. He gets a boundary in the next over as he flicks a full toss from Abbott through the leg side.

Taylor has a wild swing at the fifth delivery but gets a thick outside edge which falls safely on the off-side between Morkel and Miller, both of whom go for the catch.

Tahir will bowl out here. Taylor mistimes another big hit and again he escapes as Abbott at backward point fails to judge the ball.

Holder slams the next ball over the covers for a four to take his score to 36 from as many balls which helps West Indies avoid the biggest defeat in ODIs by margin of runs.

He carts the last ball over long-on for a six to take West Indies to 129 for eight in 30 overs. They need 280 runs from 20 overs for victory at an asking rate of 14.

Tahir ends with superb figures of five for 45 in 10 overs including two maidens.

15:11   Tahir leaves West Indies in a mess
 WI 103-7 (25 ovs) vs SA 408-5 | Scorecard

Time for some bowling practice as part-timer Faf du Plessis comes into the attack.

Holder clips the first ball on the leg side for a couple before he gets a single and Ramdin taps a full toss to long-on for another single. Just four runs from that over as du Plessis makes a tidy start to his spell.

Holder gets his second six as he makes room and lofts Tahir over the long-off fence. The leg-spinner, who is looking for his fifth wicket, has gone for 17 runs in his last two overs.

The two leg-spinners will bowl in tandem as du Plessis dishes out another tidy over, conceding just six runs.

Holder looking in good touch as he plays a delightful drive against Tahir through the covers for a four. Ramdin cuts a short ball from du Plessis past point for a four to take West Indies past the 100-run mark.

After 25 overs, West Indies are 102 for seven with another 307 needed for victory at an asking rate of 12.24. They need another 17 runs to avoid the humiliation of biggest defeat margin in ODIs history, which is 290 runs between New Zealand and Ireland in July 2008.
14:55
 WI 72-7 (20 ovs) vs SA 408-5 | Scorecard

Holder is struggling with some sort of injury. He carefully plays out the last three deliveries of Steyn's sixth over. In the next over, Holder lofts Tahir over long-off for a six and that must make him a bit happy considering how much he himself suffered with the ball.

After 20 overs, West Indies are 72 for seven, needing another 337 runs from 30 overs for victory at an asking rate of more than 11.
14:47   Tahir gets 4th wicket as WI continue to slip
 WI 63-7 (18 ovs) vs SA 408-5 | Scorecard

Tahir nearly gets Ramdin with the quicker delivery but this time the inside edge is a bit more evident followed by another tight over from Steyn.

In Tahir's next over, wicketkeeper de Kock comes up with a superb piece of glovework to stump Sammy, who is unable to drag his feet back in time and is dismissed for five.

Tahir continues to run through the West Indies batting line-up. Andre Russell attempts to cut but mistimes it as Abbott takes a superb catch, diving full length to his right.

Tahir has magical figures of four for five in his four overs including a maiden as West Indies tumble to 63 for seven in 18 overs.
14:37
 WI 61-5 (15 ovs) vs SA 408-5 | Scorecard

Denesh Ramdin slaps a short wide delivery from Morkel between cover and point for a boundary before he defends the rest of the over.

Tahir gives away three singles in his next over before Steyn is called back into the attack, to replace Morkel, who bowled one for 16 in four overs.

West Indies nearly lose another wicket as Sammy taps it on the off-side and calls for a run as Miller, at point, is quick to the ball but misses the direct hit with Ramdin well out of his crease.

Just a single from the Steyn over as West Indies struggle to 61 for five in 15 overs, with another 348 needed from 35 overs at nearly 10 runs per over.
14:19   Tahir's double strike leaves Windies in a mess
 WI 53-5 (12 ovs) vs SA 408-5 | Scorecard

Leg-spinner Imran Tahir comes into the attack and he strikes with his very first delivery. Smith is caught at long-on after scoring 31 courtesy of a brilliant catch from David Miller, who ran to his left and had to time his jump to perfection.

In the same over, Tahir traps Lendl Simmons leg before wicket with the slider that is quicker and goes on straight.

West Indies are reeling on 53 for five in 12 overs, having lost three wickets in the space of seven deliveries.

Replays and the snicko show that Simmons had got an inside edge on that. Wonder why the West Indies didn't take the review. Have they given up already?

This could turn out to be an embarrassing outing for the West Indies if the lower order fails to contribute.
14:11   Carter falls for 10 as WI lose 3rd wicket
 WI 52-3 (11 ovs) vs SA 408-5 | Scorecard

Carter pulls a short ball but can't proper timing on it and picks two runs. He edges the next ball which flies past the slips for another couple. The left-hander attempts the pull shot again but this time AB de Villiers produces a sharp catch at midwicket.

Carter walks back for 10 as West Indies slip to 52 for three after 11 overs.

14:08   WI struggle after Gayle, Samuels perish early
 WI 47-2 (10 ovs) vs SA 408-5 | Scorecard

Steyn gets a break after a short first spell of three overs for 14 runs and he makes way for Morne Morkel.

Smith gets another reprieve. Carter taps it straight to the cover fielder Rossouw and sets off for a run, Smith responds to the call but has given up hopes of making his crease but luckily for him the throw misses the stumps.

Smith is living a charmed life out in the middle. He has a wild swing at Abbott but Tahir at mid-on is unable to take a difficult low catch. That must be Smith's third lifeline the space of two overs.

It looks like Smith will not be dismissed today no matter what he does. He tries another heave on the leg side but this time gets an inside edge which passes close to the stumps and goes for a four.

Finally, Smith gets one off the middle as he lofts a full delivery from Morkel over mid-on for a four before he takes a single on the leg side.

Smith carts another full delivery, in the next over from Abbott, over mid-on for a boundary followed by a single to take his score to 30.

After 10 overs, West Indies have made 47 for two with another 362 needed for victory in 40 overs at an asking rate of 9.05.
13:50
 WI 29-2 (6 ovs) vs SA 408-5 | Scorecard

Dwayne Smith (9) gets a lifeline as Steyn is unable to get his hands on a tough return on his follow through. Another quiet over for West Indies, who have hit just a six in the first five overs to score 20 runs for two wickets. They need a massive 389 runs from 45 overs for victory at an asking rate of 8.64.

Smith gets the first four of the West Indies innings as he smashes a wide delivery from Abbott through the covers.

Jonathan Carter gets off the mark with a cracking pull shot for a boundary as West Indies struggle to 29 for two in six overs.
13:42   Samuels out for a duck to leave WI in trouble
 WI 16-2 (4 ovs) vs SA 408-5 | Scorecard

Steyn beats Samuels with one that moves away as he goes back to defend. West Indies can't get bogged down in the early overs and need a quickfire start to keep in touch with the asking rate, which is above the eight runs per over from the start of the innings.

The fifth ball stays low as Samuels is beaten again and is a touch surprised with the low bounce.

Abbott strikes again in his next over. Samuels is caught behind for a duck as West Indies slip to 16 for two in the fourth over.

He played away from his body without any feet movement, getting an edge which is snapped up by wicketkeeper de Kock.

Abbott has two for two in two overs as West Indies seem to be already out of contention so early in their innings.
13:33   Gayle out for three after SA post 408-5
 WI 13-1 (2 ovs) vs SA 408-5 | Scorecard

A big blow for West Indies's hopes of chasing down this huge total. Opener Chris Gayle, who hit a double century in the previous match, has fallen for three.

The left-hander made room and tried to smash Kyle Abbott through the off-side but failed to make connection and was bowled.

Dwayne Smith, who hit Dale Steyn for a six in the first over, is batting on seven as West Indies reach 13 for one in two overs.
12:58
SA 408-5 (50 ovs) vs WI | Scorecard

This is the second highest total in the history of the World Cup after India's 413 for five vs Bermuda in 2007. This is the highest total in One-Day Internationals played in Australia.

And all this was possible largely due to the magical batting by one man - AB DE VILLIERS!!!

De Villiers played one of the most amazing innings in the history of World Cup as South Africa hammered 150 runs in the last 10 overs with 96 coming from the last five.

De Villiers finishes unbeaten on a magical knock of 162 from just 66 balls, having hit 17 fours and eight sixes. He and Behardien (10) were involved in an unbroken stand of 80 runs from just 20 balls for the sixth wicket as South African completed decimated the West Indian bowlers.

All the West Indies bowlers suffered, in particularly, Holder, who was hit for 34 runs in his last two overs, to finish with one for 104 in 10 overs.
12:51
SA 408-5 (50 ovs) vs WI | Scorecard

De Villiers and Behardien have brought up the 50-run stand for the sixth wicket from just 14 balls!!!

22 needed to get 400? Can South Africa achieve it?

Holder, who was hit for 34 runs in his previous over, continues. The first ball gets two runs before de Villiers goes down on one knee and hits it over fine leg for a six.

The next ball is a bit short which the South African captain pulls over midwicket for a six.

The fourth delivery is slammed down the ground for a boundary as de Villiers completes his 150 from 64 balls.

The fifth ball is despatched over midwicket to bring up South Africa's 400 in grand style.

The last ball is swept square on the leg side for another six to take South Africa to a massive 408 for five in their 50 overs.

SA 378-5 (49 ovs) vs WI | Scorecard

Behardien joins the party as he slams Russell over long-off for a six before de Villiers gets another lifeline as West Indies miss the direct hit, from midwicket.

And it results in a single which brings De Villiers back on strike. He pulls a short ball over midwicket where the fielder puts in the dive but can't stop the boundary!

De Villiers hits one straight to Dwayne Smith in the covers who puts down the straightforward chance. That was tough but one you would expect an international fielder to take.

12:41
SA 364-5 (48 ovs) vs WI | Scorecard

De Villiers slams Holder for a boundary over midwicket before he lofts the next ball over long-on to complete his century in some style, from just 52 balls. Take a bow AB!!!

This is the second fastest century in the history of the World Cup after the 50-ball hundred hit by Ireland's Kevin O'Brien against England in the 2011 event.

Holder is bowling from round the wicket as AB walks across a long way and hits a full toss over square leg for a four. To add insult to injury it is called a no-ball and South Africa have a free hit. Another full toss and AB hits it over the leg side for another boundary to take South Africa past the 350-run mark, in the 48th over.

He then plays an amazing reverse paddle, helping the ball over the short thirdman fielder for a four. Even Holder can't believe what is happening out in the middle.

De Villiers mistimes the big hit down the ground but Benn, who is on the off-side, is unable to judge it cleanly and drops an easy catch.

And not surprising the next ball is despatched over midwicket for a six. This is unbelievable hitting from the South African captain! Can South Africa get to 400?

34 runs from Holder's ninth over as West Indies have lost their bearings completely since the time De Villiers came to the crease.
12:35
SA 330-5 (47 ovs) vs WI | Scorecard

De Villiers at his attacking best. He walks across the stumps and sweeps Russell with one hand behind square on the leg side for a four to move into the 90s.

Russell switches to round the wicket and bowls a yorker on the leg stump which the right-hander hits to square leg for one.

Miller lofts a full delivery down the ground but Taylor at long-on takes a stunning one-handed catch -- running to his right and stretching full length before plucking it out of mid air.

Miller walks back after scoring 20 from 16 balls as South Africa lose their fifth wicket.

Farhaan Behardien gets off the mark before AB retain strike with one from the last ball.
12:27
SA 323-4 (46 ovs) vs WI | Scorecard

West Indies captain Holder comes back with his team desperately needing a wicket or two to make their way back.

Miller hits the first ball past point for two before he picks another couple to the sweeper cover. A full toss is then punched down to long-off as AB calls him for another two runs.

Holder then bowls a full yorker which is just a bit inside the wide line as Miller offers no shot. But the next ball is wider and this time the umpire has no option but to call it a wide.

Miller has a wild swing but only manages to sky it high on the off-side where Gayle is unable to take a difficult catch.

Without a single boundary in the over, South Africa have got 11 runs from it to take their total to 323 for four in 46 overs.
12:23   De Villiers on the attack as SA eye huge total vs WI
SA 312-4 (45 ovs) vs WI | Scorecard

AB continues his attacking approach. He sweeps Benn through the leg side for back to back boundaries before he takes one.

Miller turns the fourth ball on the leg side and sprints across for two runs followed by a wide. A single from the last ball makes it 13 runs from the 44th over.

Miller takes a single off the first ball, driving Russell down to long-off, to bring up South Africa's 300. AB then flicks a full delivery to midwicket and despite the fielder picking it up cleanly they manage to run across for two and repeat it off the next ball.

AB then brings out his trademark paddle scoop, hitting a low full toss over the fine leg fielder for a six.

De Villiers has raced to 89 from 46 balls as South Africa reach 312 for four in 45 overs.
12:15   Rossouw out for 61 but SA set for a huge total
SA 286-4 (43 ovs) vs WI | Scorecard

Russell comes back but nothing can stop South Africa at the moment. He turns the third ball on the leg side for two runs before pulling the fifth ball, which is short in length, through midwicket for a four. He comes down the track to the last ball and heaves it over the covers for another boundary.

Benn comes back as West Indies look totally clueless on how to stop this South African onslaught.

Benn gifts Rossouw a full toss which he hammers through the covers for a boundary before AB plays the sweep for the same result as the over goes for 11 runs.

West Indies manage to get the all-important breakthrough with the wicket of Rossouw. He looks for another big hit but gets an edge off Russell to be caught behind after a sizzling innings of 61 from 39 balls, having added 134 runs from 12.3 overs for the third wicket with AB de Villiers.

Another big hitter out in the middle in the form of David Miller, who gets off the mark with two runs and then takes a single on the off-side.

A single to AB before Miller picks another couple from the last ball as West Indies finally manage an over with a boundary hit, a rarity in the last 45 minutes or so.
12:01   De Villiers, Rossouw slam 50s to put SA in control
SA 258-3 (40 ovs) vs WI | Scorecard

With the pacers going for plenty of boundaries, West Indies bring back left-arm spinner Benn.

Rossouw initially looks for the reverse paddle before knocking a yorker down to long-on for one. De Villiers then makes room and plays the inside out lofted for a six over the covers to bring up the 100-run stand for the fourth wicket from just 63 deliveries.

Benn then gifts AB a full toss which he flicks off his hips for a four through midwicket. The next ball is short as the right-hander rocks back and lofts it over the off-side for a four to race to his fifty from just 30 balls.

South Africa have smashed 72 runs from five overs of Batting Powerplay, the highest in the World Cup so far.

The Proteas are looking for a total well in excess of 300 as they reach 258 for three in 40 overs.

It's attack from both ends with Villiers smashing 53 from 31 balls and Rossouw hitting 54 from 33 balls.
11:55   Rossouw slams 31-ball fifty as West Indies suffer
SA 240-3 (39 ovs) vs WI | Scorecard

De Villiers getting into the act now. Holder misses the yorker as the South Africa captain slams a low full toss back over the pacer's head for a four. The next ball is a wide half-volley which AB drives through the covers for another boundary to get 12 runs from the over.

Taylor, who went for 18 runs in his previous over, continues. Two run out chances from the first two deliveries with South Africa getting an extra run from the second courtesy of an overthrow.

Taylor then bowls a wide down the leg side which Ramdin is unable to stop cleanly to give away three extra runs. The West Indies pacer has managed to find a good rhythm in this over, keeping it full and on the stumps to stop the flow of boundaries.

But he drops short and Rossouw leaps up high and cuts it powerfully over point as it carries all the way for a six. The left-hander brings up his fifty in grand style from just 31 balls as South Africa continue to push towards a big total.

Taylor has suffered yet again, going for 16 runs in his eighth over as South Africa have managed to hit 54 runs from the first four overs of Powerplay.
11:48   De Villiers, Rossouw rally South Africa
SA 212-3 (37 ovs) vs WI | Scorecard

The Batting Powerplay comes into effect and South Africa would be looking to make the most of it. No boundary from the next over bowled by Holder but still South Africa managed to get eight runs from it.

Rossouw crashes Taylor through the covers for a four to raise the 50-run stand before he takes two runs from the next ball through the off-side.

Taylor then oversteps for a no-ball which left-hander Rossouw steers past point for a four. He hammers the free hit delivery straight but ends up hitting his partner to get only a single.

De Villiers slams the next delivery straight down the ground for a four followed by two singles as 18 runs come from the over.

De Villiers and Rossouw have managed to increase the scoring rate, having scored 36 runs from the last three overs to take the total to 212 for three in 37 overs.

SA 176-3 (34 ovs) vs WI | Scorecard

De Villiers is faced with a huge task of having to keep wickets in hand for the end while also ensuring that the scoreboard keeps moving at a good rate.

Rossouw looks to get the momentum back as he heaves Sammy over midwicket for a four. The next ball is short and he pulls it over the same region for the same result to get 12 runs from the over.

At the other end, Gayle continues to do a good job with the ball. Four singles and a wide from his fourth as the tall West Indian has a few words with Rossouw at the end of the over.

After 34 overs, South Africa are 175 for three with AB on 12 from 13 balls and Rossouw on 17.
11:08   Gayle's double strike cripples South Africa
SA 147-3 (30 ovs) vs WI | Scorecard

Part-timer Chris Gayle comes into the attack, replacing Benn, who bowled seven overs for 37 runs.

He looks to bowl it full and flat but South Africa are able to get eight runs from the over also including a wide.

Part-time spinners from both ends now as Samuels comes on from the other end. Du Plessis paddles one over the keeper and two balls later he lofts a short ball over the covers for a four as South Africa continue to lift the tempo.

Gayle provides the breakthrough as du Plessis gets an edge trying to smash it through the off-side as wicketkeeper Ramdin completes a sharp catch.

Du Plessis walks back after a good innings of 62 from 70 balls, having added 127 runs for the second wicket with Amla to revive South Africa after an early wicket.

Rilee Rossouw gets off the mark with a single before Gayle gets another wicket.

Amla is trapped leg before wicket off the very next delivery after a good innings of 65 from 88 balls. Amla went back to turn it on the leg side but missed the ball and was struck right in front of the stumps.

Captain AB de Villiers gets off the mark with a single as South Africa reach 147 for three in 30 overs.
10:54   Du Plessis, Amla hit 50s to lift South Africa
SA 128-1 (27 ovs) vs WI | Scorecard

10:46   Amla hits half-century to lift SA after a slow start
SA 112-1 (25 ovs) vs WI | Scorecard

10:31   Amla, du Plessis steady SA after early wicket
SA 87-1 (20 ovs) vs WI | Scorecard

Benn drops short as Amla punches it through the off-side for his first boundary of the innings, from the 41st ball he faced. Du Plessis takes two runs from the third ball and Amla gets another couple from the last ball through midwicket to get 10 runs from the over.

Du Plessis plays a nice flick through midwicket where the fielder half stops it for two runs. The pitch appears to be a bit slower than normal and the ball is not coming on to the bat as du Plessis finds out as he mistimes two drives off Russell.

Amla gets an edge off Benn but it goes through the vacant slip region for two runs as four runs come from the 18th over.

Darren Sammy comes into the attack to replace Russell, who bowled four overs for 23 runs.

Amla and du Plessis have been a lot busier in the last few overs, taking singles and twos off almost every delivery to ensure the scoreboard keeps ticking at a good rate.

The run rate is just above the four runs per over mark and South Africa would be content to continue at a steady rate for the next few overs and keep wickets in the hand for the end.

Du Plessis top edges the pull shot against Russell but luckily for him the ball falls safely to the left-hander of the fielder at thirdman for two runs.

Just a single over from Samuels as he makes way for specialist left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn. He maintains the pressure with a tidy over, giving away just three singles.

Du Plessis breaks the shackles as he finally gets a four, pulling a short ball from Russell through the leg side. This is South Africa's first boundary after a long wait of 65 balls and they would be hoping this would trigger some urgency in the middle.

Amla steers the last ball behind point for three runs as South Africa reach 58 for one in 15 overs with Amla on 23 and du Plessis on 19.

Captain Jason Holder to bowl the second over and he starts with a maiden over to Hashim Amla, who goes hard on the ball but is unable to find the gap on the off-side.

West Indies, who were shocked by Ireland in their opening match of the World Cup, bounced back in style with convincing victories against Pakistan and Zimbabwe.

Infact, the match against Zimbabwe will be remembered for Chris Gayle's amazing innings of 215 from 147 balls, the first double century in the history of the World Cup.

Relive Gayle's magical innings of 215 -- the fastest double century in ODIs.
