23:57   Rahane's fifty extends India's lead before rain stops play

RAIN STOPS PLAY!

India 456-6 (162 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

Mishra looking to be busy. He flicks a full delivery from Cummins through midwicket for two runs before steering a slightly short wide ball through the slips for a four.

Another over from off-spinner Chase before the rain which has been threatening for the last hour or so finally comes into the picture.

It's a heavy shower as the players are forced to rush off the field.

India are sitting comfortably on 456 for six in 162 overs, for an overall lead of 260 runs.

Rahane has looked in control, has played quite a few superb shots to score 83 from 204 balls, having hit 12 fours and a six, while Mishra is unbeaten on 21 from 35 balls.

It is a heavy shower at the moment and it could turn out to be a long delay. Stay tuned!

23:44   Rahane's half-century helps India extend lead

India 447-6 (160 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

Holder finishes off his over after the resumption in the post lunch session as Amit Mishra defends the last two balls of the over.

Two singles from Bishoo's first over of the second session before Holder, who bowled nine overs on the trot in the first session, continues.

Leg-spinner against leg-spinner as Bishoo bowls to Mishra. It remains to be seen if the naturally aggressive Mishra will play in his own style or look to defend and support Rahane.

He paddles the fifth ball fine on the leg side but Blackwood sprints after it and keeps it down to two.

Holder bowls a short ball to Rahane, who tries to ramp it over the keeper but misses. A few balls later he gets it off the middle as he smashes a short wide ball behind square on the off-side for a four.

Mishra gets one up on his rival Bishoo as he chips down the track and lofts the leg-spinner straight back over his head for a six.

Spin from both ends as offie Roston Chase is called into the attack, who bowled a longish spell of nearly 10 overs on either side of the lunch break.

It's getting quite dark at Sabina Park and it looks like it could rain any moment.

Change of bowling as pacer Cummins replaces Bishoo, who has one for 107 in 35 overs.

The drizzle is getting a bit heavier but the umpires are content to let the match continue for now.

Meanwhile, Chase is getting the ball to turn and bounce but Mishra looks keen to get down and have a swing. He gets just a single courtesy of a thick edge past the fielder at slip.

After 60 overs, India are 447 for six for an overall lead of 251 runs.

Rahane is looking on course for a century, he is currently batting on 82 from 202 balls, having hit 12 fours and a six, while Mishra is on 13.

22:36   Saha dismissed for 47, India 425-6 at lunch on Day 3

LUNCH - DAY 3

India 425-6 (151.4 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

Captain Holder leading the way as he continues with the ball, bowling his ninth over on the trot. And he is finally rewarded for his persistence as he traps Saha leg before wicket with the full delivery which cuts in sharply, just at the stroke of lunch.

Saha walks back after a steady knock of 47 from 116 balls, after he had put on 98 runs for the sixth wicket with Rahane.

Rahane is batting well on a solid innings of 74, hitting 11 fours and a six in his 176-ball knock.

At lunch on Day 3, India are well placed on 425 for six in 151.4 overs, having an overall lead of 229 runs.

It was once again slow progress for Indians, who scored just 67 runs in 26.4 overs in the morning session on the third day.
22:26

India 423-5 (150 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

Captain Holder bowls a top over to Rahane, who is infact lucky to survive. An inside edge saves Rahane from the LBW appeal before he is beaten by one which goes the other way as he goes fending for it.

The next ball comes in as Rahane is again struck on the pads before another outswinger beats him. The right-hander is looking totally at sea and Holder must be wondering what more he needs to do to get a wicket.

In his next over, Rahane is once again hit on the pads as he looks to whip it across the line but again the LBW appeal is turned down with the ball slipping down the leg side.

The next ball is short as Rahane pulls it behind square for two runs to finally make a connection with the bat in the last eight deliveries faced against Holder.

India don't seem in a hurry at all as they are going at just over two runs per over to score 49 runs from 22 overs on Day 3.

Rahane has looked a bit shaky in the last few overs. Once again he cuts a short ball which he doesn't time well as the fielder at point is unable to hold on to a tough chance.

Rahane breaks the shackles as he cuts a short wide delivery from Holder over the point fielder for a four to take his score to 70.

A couple of balls later, he punches a full delivery right off the centre of the bat straight down the ground for a magnificent boundary.

Saha gets into the attack mode as he comes down to Bishoo and lofts him over mid-off for a four before he paddles the next to fine leg for one.

Holder continues to trouble Rahane who survives another LBW appeal.

After 150 overs, India have reached 423 for five for an overall lead of 227 runs with Rahane on 74 from 170 balls and Saha on 45 from 112 balls.
21:53   Rahane, Saha take India past 400 as lead swells

India 401-5 (141 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

Gabriel has once again been impressive as he continues to work on that probing line and length outside the off-stump.

Cummins provides some width as Saha steers it past the slips for a four to take his score to 27. He has played a good supporting and ensured that India don't lose an early wicket as they try to build their lead.

Rahane has made 59 from 115 balls with 29 runs coming from the first 10 overs of the third day.

Saha gets an inside edge off Holder for two runs on the leg side to take India's lead past the 200-run mark.

However, Saha is more positive against Bishoo whom he sweeps confidently through square leg for a four to bring up the 400, in the 141st over.
21:06   Rahane's half-century helps India build lead on Day 3

India 378-5 (132 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

Both Rahane and Saha looking quite comfortable against the West Indies pace duo of Gabriel and Cummins.

Gabriel drops short and also offers a bit of width as Rahane drives it past point for a four to continue his impressive batting display.

India have scored 20 runs in the first seven overs of the day as West Indies will once again look to stop the flow of runs but at the same time the tactics won't fetch them any wickets unless the batsmen make a mistake.

India have reached 378 for five in 132 overs, for an overall lead of 182 runs.
20:50   2nd Test: Rahane's eighth fifty helps India consolidate

India: 371-5
West Indies: 196

A single is all that comes of the day's first over by Shannon Gabriel.

Miguel Cummins to bowl the second over of the day. An otherwise tight over is spoiled by a last ball boundary, hit exquisitely by Rahane.

Rahane helps himself to another boundary in Cummins' second over, the shot helping him reach his eighth Test fifty.
20:09   2nd Test: India look to consolidate advantage on Day III

India: 358-5
West Indies: 196

Good evening and welcome to the live coverage of the third day's play of the second Test match between West Indies and India at Kingston.

India, having ended Day II on 358 for five, already have a healthy lead of 162 runs going into the day's play, and with Ajinkya Rahane (42 not out) batting with confidence, look set to build on the advantage.

It is obvious that the visitors won't bat for a second time in this match. There's one question that needs to be answered though.

Will this Test go into a fourth day?

STUMPS - DAY 2

India 358-5 (125 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

Six overs left in the day as West Indies bring back pacer Gabriel to replace off-spinner Chase, who took two for 91 in 29 overs.

The pacer drops short as Rahane slashes it over point for a boundary as he continues to bat fluently followed by a single in Gabriel's next over to raise India's 350-run mark.

Bishoo gifts Saha a full toss which he drives down the ground for a boundary as the total continues to grow for the Indians.

Part-timer Brathwaite to bowl the final over of the day. He nearly strikes with the last ball of the day as Saha gets an edge but it goes over the two fielder in the slips.

At stumps on Day 2, India are comfortably placed on 358 for five in 125 overs to stretch their lead to 162 runs.

Rahane has batted quite fluently to score 42 not out from 87 balls, having hit six fours and a six, while Saha is unbeaten on 17.

In the post-tea session, India scored 99 runs from 34 overs, while losing three wickets.

Overall, India were made to work hard for their runs as they made 232 runs in 88 overs for the loss of four wickets.

03:45   Rahane, Saha extend India's lead on Day 2

India 349-5 (120 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

Rahane is surprised by one that bounces a bit more from Chase before he sweeps the next ball past short fine leg fielder for a four. In comparison to the other Indian batsmen on Day 2, Rahane has been quite fluent, scoring 33 from 65 balls for a strike rate of over 50.

Once again we are headed into extra time with West Indies failing to bowl their quota of 90 overs within the stipulated time.

Saha turns Bishoo on the leg side for two runs before he slaps a full delivery through the off-side for a four.

India are 349 for five in 120 overs, for an overall lead of 153 runs. Rahane is batting quite well on 39 from 76 balls, while Saha in on 11.
03:15   Ashwin falls for three, India lose 5th wicket

India 328-5 (113 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

Rahane swipes Chase across the line, through midwicket, for a boundary before he takes a single to bring new batsman Ravi Ashwin on strike, who again is promoted to No. 6 following his century in the first Test at Antigua.

In the off-spinner's next over, Rahane comes down the track and lofts it over long-on for a six. He is looking keen to keep the runs coming against the spinners and extend the lead before stumps on the second day.

Bishoo managing to keep the runs down, following that expensive over to Kohli and after his dismissal he has been bowling on a good line and length.

Ashwin gets off the mark from the 17th ball he faces, getting an edge off Chase through thirdman for two runs.

Ashwin decides to break the shackles as he comes down the track and looks to loft it down the ground and slices it high on the off-side but Gabriel on the off-side is unable to take the catch.

Ashwin falls in the very next over as Bishoo traps him leg before wicket as the right-hander is struck on the toes by a full delivery.

Ashwin struggled to get going as he made three from 22 balls before he made his way back to the dressing room.

New batsman Wriddhiman Saha survives a huge shout for leg before wicket before he gets off the mark with a single.
02:51   Kohli dismissed for 44, India lose 4th wicket

India 310-4 (104 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

Rahane has been quite positive and is not letting go of any opportunity to get the boundaries.

Holder drops it short as the right-hander swivels back and pulls it through midwicket for a four.

West Indies bring back spin as Roston Chase comes back into the attack. Rahane looks to play the cut shot but gets a thick outside edge which goes between the wicketkeeper and slip for a four.

Spin from both ends as Bishoo is called back to have a bowl. He starts with a rank long hop and Kohli needs no second invitation as he pulls it over midwicket for his first six of the innings to take India's lead past the 100-mark.

The next ball is again short as this time Kohli pulls it along the ground for a four to take India past the 300-run mark.

He clips the third ball square on the leg side and rushes back for two runs before he slaps the last ball, again on the shorter side, through midwicket for a four.

Bishoo goes for 16 runs in his 15th over as Kohli takes his score into the 40s.

Chase gets the big wicket of Kohli, who is caught at short leg by Chandrika after scoring 44 from 90 balls, just when he was looking to turn it on and score some quick runs.

Maybe Kohli forgot that there was a fielder close in, who did well to stand still and hold on to the tough catch.
02:27

India 284-3 (100 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

West Indies are looking to build the pressure by bowling a string of tight overs, three successive maiden overs before Ajinkya Rahane turns Gabriel on the leg side for a single and Kohli gets two on the leg side.

He is beaten off the last ball as he looks for the drive through the off-side but is beaten by some movement.

In the next over, Rahane gets his first boundary as he makes most of a short, wide delivery from Holder, hitting it through the covers for a four.

Kohli has a huge appeal for LBW turned down against Gabriel as he was beaten by the incoming delivery, maybe the impact was a bit higher and that is what saved the Indian captain, who is batting on 27 from 79 balls.

India are 284 for three in 100 overs having swelled their lead to 88 runs.

02:07   Rahul dismissed for 158, India lose 3rd wicket

India 277-3 (96 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

No surprise that West Indies have taken the second new ball straightaway after the tea interval.

It is Shannon Gabriel who will start off with the new ball to kick off the post tea session.

The first ball is full and right in the slot as Rahul comes forward and drives it in some style through the covers for a four to begin the session in confident fashion.

India will look at scoring at a brisk rate in the post tea session and end up on somewhere close to the 400-run mark at stumps without losing too many wickets.

Kohli is hit on the fingers by a throw from the fielder at midwicket as he tries for a single but is sent back and receives the throw on his fingers.

Cummins to share the second new ball as he bowls at Kohli's pads who flicks it square for two runs.

The fast bowler bowls a big wide down the leg side which goes for five wides. Infact, Cummins pulls up after bowling that delivery and he looks to be in some pain, maybe some cramps.

He receives some treatment before he has to walk off the field, thereby adding to the West Indies's woes.

Holder takes over from the injured, bowling the remaining two deliveries to complete the 93rd over.

Gabriel drifts on the pads as Rahul glances it fine on the leg side for a four with the fine leg fielder placed a bit square.

The fast bowler has come close to getting an edge a few times but hasn't enjoyed any luck.

Rahul is beaten outside the off-stump as he pokes his bat at a wide one before there is an appeal for a catch down the leg side.

Umpire Aleem Dar refers the appeal to the television umpire and immediately gives a soft signal that it is not out.

Rahul tries to glance it but misses the flick and the ball is taken down the leg side by wicketkeeper Dowrich. There looks to be some sort of deflection in the replays but without a snickometre or the Hotspot it is difficult to ascertain conclusively whether there was an edge on that.

What did umpire Dar refer the appeal to the third umpire for? Was that to ascertain if there was an edge or whether the catch was taken cleanly? Interestingly, his soft signal was a not out, so it remains to be seen what the final decision will be.

And the third umpire confirms that there was an edge and Rahul has to walk back after being ruled out caught behind.

Rahul perishes after a superb innings of 158 from 303 balls, having hit 15 fours and three sixes.

Rahul definitely looked like he had got an edge but umpire Dar's soft signal left everyone confused.

01:13   Rahul hits 150 to put India in control on Day 2

TEA- DAY 2

India 259-2 (91 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

Kohli slaps a wide full delivery from Brathwaite in the gap through the covers for a beautiful boundary. A single followed by two runs to Rahul through the covers and another single makes it nine runs from the over for India off the part-time spinner.

In the next over, Rahul steals a quick single to bring up his 150, from 289 balls, in the 91st over. A wonderful innings from the youngster, who didn't throw his wicket away after getting to the century and was willing to grind it out and put in the hard yard to get the runs.

At tea on Day 2, India have reached 259 for two in 91 overs, for a lead of 63 runs. They scored 74 runs from 28 overs in the post-tea session while losing the wicket of Pujara, who played a subdued innings of 46 from 159 balls.

Rahul was instrumental in driving India forward despite the slow scoring rate as he made 150 not out from 289 balls, having hit 13 fours and three sixes.

Kohli also was content to play it safe as he made 21 from 51 balls with the duo already putting on 51 runs for the third wicket.
01:02   Rahul's century puts India in control on Day 2

India 246-2 (88 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

West Indies are not taking the new ball straightaway as Cummins continues with the old ball.

Cummins beats Rahul with a full incoming delivery as the India opener looks to hit it across the line but is beaten and the appeal for LBW is turned down.

Rahul comes down the track to Bishoo and lofts him high over long-off for his third six. Two balls later, the leggie pitches short but Rahul can't beat the fielder at midwicket and misses out on an easy boundary.

Wonder why West Indies are delaying taking the second new ball? Are they content keeping the runs down and not looking to go for wickets at this stage?

Infact, West Indies skipper Holder is off the ground and maybe they are waiting for him to come back on the field.

Part-time off-spinner Brathwaite replaces Bishoo, who has bowled 14 overs for 46 runs.

West Indies seem content to sit back and hope for things to happen rather than try something to make their way back into the contest.

India may be scoring slowly but are steadily taking control of the match and getting into a position from where they will dictate the shots and West Indies will have no option but to fight for survival.

Off-spinner Chase comes on from the other end as Kohli decides it's time to put some energy back into the innings.

He lofts Chase over mid-on for his first boundary from the 34th ball he faces to take his score to 12.

India are milking the two spinners with relative ease to take their score to 246 for two in 88 overs, stretching their lead to 50 runs.
00:34   Rahul's century puts India in control on Day 2

India 226-2 (80 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

Captain Kohli gets off the mark with a single to point off Bishoo and picks another single off the next over from Holder as West Indies keep the field well spread even against the new batsman.

Cummins come on to bowl to the 79th over to get him warmed up for the second new ball. Kohli steers the fourth ball through the off-side for two runs and then takes a single.

Two singles from Bishoo's 13th over takes India to 226 for two in 80 overs with Rahul on 131 and Kohli on seven.
image
00:15   Pujara run out for 46 but India in control on Day 2

India 215-2 (75 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

Rahul decides to be a bit more positive in the afternoon session as he lofts Holder over mid-off but hasn't timed it well and gets two runs.

Rest for Gabriel as Bishoo comes on from the Michael Holding End for the first time.

Pujara can't make most of a short wide ball, cutting it through the off-side for one while Rahul profits from a misfield as he collects a single before Pujara picks another run.

Pujara's patient vigil finally ends as he is dismissed run out. He looks to steal a quick single on the leg side but the fielder at square leg gets the direct hit to catch the batsman short of his crease.

Pujara is visibly disappointed at throwing his wicket away in that fashion as he walks back after a patient innings of 46 from 159 balls, having added 121 runs for the second wicket with Rahul.

Meanwhile, Rahul is struggling with a bit of cramps as the physio comes out to attend him twice. He hits a beautiful straight boundary off Holder before going down in pain as the umpires call for drinks.
