LUNCH - DAY 4

WI 48-4 (15.5 ovs) & 196 vs
India 500-9d | Scorecard

Shami leaves West Indies in further strife as he finally claims the wicket of Bravo. The short ball finally works the trick for Shami as the left-hander gets a glove as he looks to fend and is caught in the slips for 20.

At lunch on Day 4, West Indies find themselves in shambles at 48 for four in 15.5 overs. They still need another 256 runs to avoid an innings defeat.

So just like the weather, it is looking all gloomy for the West Indies.

WI 41-3 (14 ovs) & 196 vs India 500-9d | Scorecard

New batsman Marlon Samuels does not survive as he is dismissed for a duck by Shami, as a full delivery break through his defences to crash into the stumps.

Samuels was expecting a short ball as he was caught on the crease but is unable to keep it out as he plays down the wrong line.

West Indies are collapsing here, as they are reduced to 41 for three in 14 overs.

Will West Indies even last Day 4? They still need 263 runs to avoid the humiliation of an innings defeat.

WI 42-1 (13 ovs) & 196 vs India 500-9d | Scorecard

Brathwaite is looking to take on the short balls as he pulls Ishant through square leg for a four. However, his partner Bravo is struggling as he top edges trying to play the pull shot as it goes behind the stumps for a four.

Bravo is all at sea against Shami's short deliveries as he somehow is surviving till now, defending awkwardly. The left-hander top edges the short ball which goes over the wicetkeeper for a four and edges the last ball through gully for another boundary.

Leg-spinner Amit Mishra is introduced into the attack. He strikes in his first over with the wicket of Brathwaite, who falls to the worst possible delivery ever. Mishra drops one halfway down, but Brathwaite is early into the pull and gets a top edge to be caught by Rahul, running back at square leg.

Brathwaite walks back for 23 as West Indies are reduced to 41 for two in 13 overs.

WI 29-1 (10 ovs) & 196 vs India 500-9d | Scorecard

Ishant continues as he also starts with a short ball which doesn't rise much as Brathwaite steers it past point for two runs. The right-hander edges the fifth ball as he looks to defend but is lucky that the edge falls short of the slips and goes for a four.

Bravo having a few problems with the short ball as Shami once again has him fending as he takes his eyes off. In his next over, Shami beats the left-hander with the full delivery which moves away enough to beat the edge and then is again left struggling to deal with a bouncer. Quality stuff from Shami as he makes most of the extra bounce on the pitch.

Bravo has a problem against the short ball as Ishant also tests him with a quick bouncer which the left-hander looks to defend before leaving it at the last minute as it goes down the leg side.

Bravo then tries to turn a short ball fine which falls just short of the fielder at leg slip. Ishant then bowls a full ball and Bravo is beaten again as he plays from the crease.

This has been a good testing spell by both Indian pacers as West Indies somehow struggle to reach 29 for one in 10 overs, still trailing by 275 runs.
22:38   Ishant strikes, West Indies lose early wicket

WI 12-1 (4 ovs) & 196 vs India 500-9d | Scorecard

Play gets underway once again at Sabina Park with Shami bowling the fourth over of the innings. The first ball is a good bouncer as Bravo somehow fends it on the leg side for one, he seems to have suffered a blow.

The next ball nearly accounts for Brathwaite, who gets an inside edge which beats wicketkeeper Saha for the first four of the innings. A similar delivery beats him later in the over before Shami gets the edge off the last ball which goes on the bounce to the gully for a single.

RAIN STOPS PLAY!

WI 6-1 (3 ovs) & 196 vs India 500-9d | Scorecard

The rain continues to play games. Once again, when the play was about to restart, the rain comes back and again for a few minutes!

The groundstaff will be confused as to keep the covers or let them stay. Every time they take off the covers, the heavens open up, leaving the crowds and the Indian players also frustrated but the West Indies won't mind this at all.

The hosts are still trailing India by 298 runs and the way they have batted so far in the series, weather is their only hope.

RAIN STOPS PLAY!

WI 6-1 (3 ovs) & 196 vs India 500-9d | Scorecard

So, play finally starts in Jamaica as the two West Indies openers Kraigg Brathwaite and Rajendra Chandrika walk out to open the batting.

West Indies face a huge deficit of 304 runs and will need to bat out of their skin to even draw this match, for which they will need a lot of help from the weather.

Ishant Sharma to bowl the first over. Brathwaite slaps the fourth ball, which is short and a bit wide, through the covers but the heavy outfield keeps him down to two runs as the hosts get off the mark.

Mohammad Shami to bowl the second over. Chandrika turns the first ball on the leg side for a single before Brathwaite pulls a short ball behind square for two runs.

Ishant strikes in his second over. Chandrika looks to leave a slightly short ball but ends up getting hit on the elbow to deflect it back on to his stumps to be dismissed for one as West Indies suffer an early blow.

Ishant round the wicket to left-hander Darren Bravo, who turns the last ball on the leg side for a single to get off the mark.

And the rain is back at Sabina Park as the players are forced off the field for another rain interval. Only 15 minutes of play was possible in which India bowled three overs, claiming an early wicket.

The rain has got quite heavy now as the groundstaff are scurrying out on the middle with the covers and in a few minutes it stops raining!

Welcome to the coverage of Day 3 of the second Test between West Indies and India at Sabina Park, in Kingston, Jamaica, on Tuesday.

The news is not encouraging as far as the cricket is concerned with the ground under covers with a lot of dark clouds hovering above as the Tropical Storm Earl has made it's presence felt.

STUMPS - DAY 3

India 500-9d (171.1 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

Well, the umpires have decided to call off play early because of rain and bad light.

Only 46.1 overs were bowled on the third day because of bad weather as the post-tea session was washed out.

India posted a huge 500 for nine in their first innings because of Rahane's unbeaten century 108 to grab a huge lead of 304 runs before rain played spoilsport.

RAIN STOPS PLAY!

India 500-9d (171.1 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

Just as the groundstaff took off the covers, the rain returned forcing the covers to be brought back again.

It's not looking good at the moment and it looks like it would be quite a while before the rain relents.

West Indies won't mind watching the rain fall down as they face an uphill task to save the second Test after conceding a huge first innings lead.

RAIN STOPS PLAY!

India 500-9d (171.1 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

It has gone quite dark at the venue as the floodlights have been switched on. Yadav takes a single before Rahane comes down the track and lofts Brathwaite over long-on for a six to bring up India's 500 and also take the lead past the 300-run mark.

Yadav has another wild swing against Chase but gets a top edge and is caught on the leg side after scoring 19.

That forces captain Virat Kohli to call his team back as they declare on 500 for nine after taking a huge lead of 304 runs.

Rahane finishes unbeaten on a superb innings of 108 from 237 balls, having hit 13 fours and three sixes.

A flurry of wickets for Chase in the last few overs as he finishes with five for 121 in 36.1 overs.

Meanwhile, it has started to rain again and it will be a while before West Indies can start their second innings. The umpires have taken tea early as it continues to rain at Sabina Park.

India 492-8 (170 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

The onus will now be on Rahane to keep the scoreboard and also ensure that he completes his century before India start thinking about the declaration.

He taps Cummins through the off-side for a single off the last ball to keep strike. The field is well spread out for Rahane as he drives Chase to deep point but turns down the single before he takes one to long-off from the fourth ball.

Yadav makes his intentions clear as he takes a step or two before smashing a full delivery straight down past mid-off for a four to get off the mark.

India manage to get three singles from the 167th over bowled by Cummins with Rahane taking one from the last ball to keep strike.

The field is spread around for Rahane against Chase for the first four balls before they all come in to stop the single. He comes down and smashes the first ball over the off-side for a six to take his score into the 90s and defends the last ball.

Spin from both ends as part-timer Kraigg Brathwaite comes into the attack. Yadav makes most as he slog sweeps the off-spinner over midwicket for a four before that shot forces the West Indies to again spread their field for the No. 10 batsman.

Two singles from the last ball as Rahane ensures he keeps the strike and take his score to 96.

He brings up his century in streaky fashion, getting an edge off Chase which goes past the fielder at slip for a boundary. The Mumbai batsman took 231 balls to get to his third century in four innings as India continued to build their lead.

Yadav goes after Chase as he looks to sweep but gets a top edge which goes fine on the leg side for a four. He smashes the next ball straight to the fielder at midwicket but the fielder lets it go through his hands to concede another boundary.

India 458-8 (164 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

The good news is that the rain has stopped and the players are back on the field to resume proceedings in the post-lunch session.

Around 50 minutes of play was lost because of rain but India will not be bothered with still lots of time left in the Test match.

It remains to be seen if India change their approach considering the change in the weather, if they will be a bit more aggressive and try to put the West Indies in for an hour or two, before stumps on the third day.

Rahane gets going after the resumption with a single on the off-side off Cummins from the second ball and Mishra is able to see off the remaining four deliveries.

Chase sends Mishra back as he gets him caught at short fine leg off an inside edge. Mishra walks back immediately, not waiting for the umpire's decision, after having scored 21 from 42 balls.

He strikes another blow off the very next delivery as Mohammed Shami is bowled for a first-ball duck. Shami played for the turn but the ball went on straight and hit the off-stump. Umesh Yadav was able to keep out the hat-trick delivery as he blocked it on the off-side.
