17:47   SL 19-1 at stumps after India enforce follow-on

SL 19-1 (13 ovs) and 135 vs India 487 | Scorecard

Another disappointing batting performance by Sri Lanka as they are reduced to 19 for one in 13 overs, after being forced to follow-on.

They were bowled out for a lowly 135 in the first innings after India had posted a mammoth 487 in their first innings.

Sri Lanka still need another 333 runs to avoid the humiliation of an innings defeat with three more days left in the match.

India are sitting pretty and would be looking to push for victory on the third day itself and complete an emphatic 3-0 series whitewash.

SL 15-1 (11 ovs) 135 vs India 487 | Scorecard

Good signs for India as Umesh comes back into the attack, having earlier gone off the field with some injury.

He seems in no discomfort as he bowls a good first over with Tharanga getting just a single.

Ashwin continues but still no signs of Kuldeep, who took four wickets in Sri Lanka's first innings.

It is Umesh, who makes breakthrough with the wicket of Tharanga, who drags one back to his stumps. The left-hander is bowled for a paltry seven to continue his run of poor scores in the series.

Tharanga plays away from his body without any feet movement as he tries to force it through the off-side but ends up inside edging it back on to his stumps to be dismissed twice in the space of four hours.

Malinda Pushpakumara comes in at No. 3 as the nightwatchman. He gets a beauty from Umesh as the ball moves away late to leave the right-hander, who was playing down the inside line.

SL 11-0 (8 ovs) 135 vs India 487 | Scorecard

Sri Lanka's openers, Karunaratne and Tharanga, walk out to open the batting for the second time in two sessions.

Mohammed Shami opens the bowling as Karuaratne clips the first ball on the leg side for two runs to get off the mark. He flicks the next ball through midwicket for a four before he is rapped on the pads but the LBW appeal is turned down.

Ravichandran Ashwin to open the bowling from the other end, that could be considering two left-handers out in the middle.

Tharanga defends the first five balls before he drives the last ball through the off-side for a four to get off the mark in confident fashion.

Shami once again asking questions. This time he bowls a bouncer as Karunaratne ducks under but the ball stays low and hits him around the upper back and shoulder area. He looks in considerable pain as the physio comes out to provide some treatment following which he continues to bat.

Sri Lanka's openers looking to bat cautiously and not give any chances to India's bowlers and avoid losing any wickets before stumps.

Sri Lanka following on crawl their way to 11 for no loss in eight overs, with four of the last five overs being maidens.

Kuldeep strikes again in his next over with the wicket of Dilruwan Perera for a duck. The right-hander pulls a short ball straight into the hands of Pandya at deep midwicket, the only fielder in the deep on the leg side.

Kuldeep's success forces Kohli to bring back Ashwin from the other end. Malinda Pushpakumara comes down the track but is beaten by the turn and hit on the pads. He inside edges the next ball but it falls short of the fielder at short leg before there is a slight appeal for LBW.

Kuldeep beats Pushpakumara with the googly which goes straight on as the right-hander plays for the turn.

The young spinner switches to round the wicket and beats the No. 8 batsman with another googly. He turns the last ball to fine leg but Chandimal turns down the single.

India waste their second and final review. Chandimal goes for the sweep against Ashwin but fails to make connection as the Indians appeal for a catch down the leg side. India take the DRS but there is no contact with the bat and they finish both their review after just 26 overs.

Pushpakumara has had enough of the defending as he goes back and cuts Ashwin past point for a four. In his next over, he has a huge appeal for leg before wicket turned down against Chandimal.

However, Ashwin gets his man in the very next over. The Sri Lankan captain flicks Ashwin straight to Rahul at leg slip to be dismissed for 48 as the hosts slip to 125 for seven in the 32nd over.

Lakshan Sandakan, who earlier claimed five wickets with the ball, comes out to bat with his team in dire straits.

In the next over, Chandimal plays a nice straight drive, punching a full delivery from Shami down the ground for a four to get off the mark.

However, disaster strikes for Sri Lanka as the in-form Mendis is run out for 18. Chandimal had flicked a full delivery from Shami on the leg side as Ashwin made a diving stop with the two batsmen involved in a mix-up. Ashwin misses with the direct hit as the batsman was well outside his crease and the back up fielder Kuldeep had enough time to make another attempt and he connected with the direct hit to run out Mendis.
13:56   Shami's double strike rocks Sri Lanka

SL 23-2 (5 ovs) vs India 487 | Scorecard

However, two balls later he plays a beautiful flick through the leg side for a four to get off the mark in style. The pacer slides down the pads again and the result is the same as Mendis bags another boundary.

Shami strikes again in his next over as he sends back the other opener. Late movement for Shami as Karunaratne is forced to play at it before the ball moves away to take the edge.

Shami on fire as he dismisses both the Sri Lankan openers to reduce the hosts to 23 for two in the fifth over.

Dinesh Chandimal is beaten by a full incoming delivery from Shami as the appeal for LBW is turned down. And Virat Kohli decides to take the DRS with the batsman struck on the crease while being hit on the pads.

The ball is clipping the bails which means the batsman survives just about because of umpire's call. A close call for Chandimal and Sri Lanka, who are struggling against the new ball.

India 329-6 (90 ovs) vs SL | Scorecard

India reached the close of play on 329 for six, with Wriddhiman Saha unbeaten on 13 and Hardik Pandya not out on one at stumps. They will be hoping that their lower order which has done well with the bat in the last year or so, will once again make some contributions with the bat and carry them above the 400-run mark.

On Day 1, India's Shikhar Dhawan smashed his sixth hundred and added 188 in an opening partnership with KL Rahul before Sri Lanka's spinners fought back to halt the touring side's progress.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, India captain Virat Kohli could not have asked for a better start as his side began their bid to complete a series whitewash over the hosts.

Dhawan hit 17 fours in his 123-ball knock before he was out for 119, hitting a sweep shot off left-arm spinner Malinda Pushpakumara straight to Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal at square leg.

Pushpakumara had also provided Sri Lanka a breakthrough in his first over when he dismissed Rahul for 85. The 30-year-old, playing only his second test, later bowled an out-of-sorts Ajinkya Rahane for 17, to end the day with figures of 3-40.

Left-arm wrist-spinner Lakshan Sandakan then got Cheteshwar Pujara (eight) to edge one to slip as Sri Lanka continued to fight back.

The 26-year-old, replacing the injured Rangana Herath, also removed the dangerous Kohli with the right-handed batsman out for 42 after getting an edge to slip.
