Ashwin beats Bavuma again with a similar delivery and again Saha fumbles before the right-hander takes a single on the off-side.

Change of ends for Shami as he takes over from Umesh. Bavuma defends the first ball and then leaves the next before he gets an inside edge on the leg side for two runs.

Ashwin giving it some flight as he also provides Hamza with some width, who drives it through the covers for a four and then takes a single.

Bavuma then reverse sweeps Ashwin past the slip fielder for another four to raise the 50-run stand for the fourth wicket from 60 balls.

Umesh back into the attack as he replaces Shami. The pacer bowls short and wide as Hamza slashes it through point for a four and then clips the fifth ball square on the leg side for two runs.

The duo have been very positive, as look to rally South Africa after a horror start. South Africa have scored 65 runs from 12 overs bowled in the session so far.

Hamza has stroked his way to 44 from 53 balls, while Bavuma has made 17 from 32 balls.

Hamza punches Shami through the covers for three runs as the pacer gives him some width as the duo look to play positively and build some partnership.

Another beauty from Umesh as he gets the edge off Hamza but it falls just short of Virat Kohli at first slip, before he gets a single into the covers as Mayank Agarwal misfields.

Hamza looking quite good. Shami overpitches as the right-hander drills it straight down the ground past mid-off for a four and then steers the next past the gully fielder for another boundary to bring up South Africa's 50, in the 13th over.

Mohammed Shami from the other end. A watchful Hamza plays out a maiden over from the Indian fast bowler, just wanting to block everything  coming his way.

Temba Bavuma gets off the mark in streaky fashion. He gets a thick outside edge off Umesh which goes past the slips for a four. Two balls later, he gets one which hardly bounces off the track and goes underneath the bat as he tries to defend.

Bavuma then taps the fifth ball on the off-side for one before Hamza drives the last ball into the covers.

In the next over, Shami beats Bavuma with a full delivery as the ball bounces bit more than expected and moves away to go past the edge. He gets a thick outside edge off the last ball for a four.

Umesh goes slightly short as Hamza gets on top of the bounce and steers it behind point for a four. However, Umesh finds the edge with a full away going delivery as Hamza looks to drive but it flies past the gully fielder for another four.

Umesh gets greedy as he pitches it right up and Hamza drives the overpitched delivery straight down the ground past mid-off for the third boundary of the over.

Umesh Yadav will start off with the ball for India on Day 3. Zubayr Hamza defends the first balls which are pitched up before he clips the third ball through square leg for a four.

Umesh again drifts on the pads as Hamza again clips it square for three runs.

Umesh then makes the early breakthrough with the wicket of Faf du Plessis, who is bowled for one. The full delivery moves away enough to beat du Plessis, who plays down the inside line, to crash into the off-stump.

Not a good start for South Africa as they are reduced to 16 for three.

The slight drizzle has stopped and the groundstaff are now working on taking off the covers. Infact, the sun has come out now and things are looking quite good for the game to get underway.

The Indian players have already started their warm up exercises and it looks like the third day's play could start on time.

Sunil Gavaskar in his pitch report says "the cracks are opening up slightly but because the pitch is being covered quite quickly and not much sun, it is holding up."

"There are still runs there because it has not broken up," he adds.

Welcome to the coverage of Day 3 of the third and final Test between India and South Africa in Ranchi on Monday.

Rohit Sharma slammed his maiden Test double century before the pacers struck early to put the hosts in command on Day 2.

South Africa were reeling one nine for two in reply to India's mammoth 497 for nine before declared when bad light ended play early on the second day.

Newly-promoted Test opener Rohit, who is also the only batsman to rack up three double hundreds in the ODI format with a world record 264, batted with nonchalance and reached his double century with a six, going from his tea score of 199 to 205 in style.

South Africa were off to a horror start as Mohammed Shami dismissed Dean Elgar caught behind for a duck off a fiery short delivery in the first over and Umesh Yadav followed it up with the wicket of Quinton de Kock in the very next over.

They will be aiming to continue their domination and pick up a few more early wickets on Day 3 and leave South Africa in further strife.
