Ravindra Jadeja is back into the attack. He makes a tidy start as Nicholls and Guptill pick a single to get just two runs from the spinner's opening over.

Chahal continues after the drinks break. He starts with a wide down the leg side to Guptill, who then takes a single to long-on, followed by singles off the last two balls.

Nicholls then comes down the track and lofts Chahal over midwicket for a four as New Zealand continue their good start.

Chahal gives India some relief with the wicket of Nicholls. He looks to sweep a full delivery and misses to given out leg before wicket. The left-hander reviews the decision but it turns out to be a waste as Nicholls walks back after scoring 41, and putting on 93 runs for the opening wicket with Guptill.

India still searching for their first breakthrough as Saini continues. He is generating good pace, bowling in excess of 140kph, and has also maintained a good line and length.

A single to Nicholls to thirdman before the pacer bowls a high full toss down the leg side which is ruled a wide and Guptill then takes a single.

Nicholls is hit on the pads trying to hit Saini through the leg side before he whips the last ball to fine leg for one.

In the next over, Guptill pulls a short ball from Chahal over midwicket for a six and he then takes a single to long-on.

Chahal then puts down a straightforward catch of his own bowling to give Nicholls (34) a lifeline. The ball was chipped back straight to Chahal, who got his hands to it before somehow ended up spilling it.

This has been a perfect start for New Zealand as they reach 83 for no loss in 15 overs, with Guptill on 45 from 38 balls and Nicholls on 35 from 52 balls.

Nicholls then sweeps a leg side delivery for one to short fine leg, followed by two more singles as four runs come from the over.

Nicholls continue to steal the quick singles as he taps Bumrah to mid-off and takes another run.

Bumrah then strays down the leg side as Guptill glances it fine for a four and does the same next ball for another boundary. This time he missed the yorker as the ball hit the back leg and went fine but the umpire rules it as runs.

Bumrah goes the short ball as Guptill attempts the ramp shot but is beaten. He gets it right next ball as he ramps a quick short ball over the wicketkeeper for a huge six over the stands, to get 15 from the over.

Bumrah is once again struggling to make an impression, giving away 29 from his four overs.

Saini bowls four dot balls in a row to Nicholls, before the left-hander is beaten trying to pull a short ball down the leg side for five dots in a row.

But he makes up for it as he pulls the last ball for a four to ruin a good over from Saini.

Thakur comes back into the attack, replacing Bumrah. Guptill taps the first ball on the off-side and takes a quick single and Nicholls shuffles across and scoops the third ball for a four to take New Zealand past 50.

It has been a good start by New Zealand as they start off cautiously before taking on the bowlers, to reach 52 for no loss in 10 overs.

Guptill has stroked his way to 29 from 26 balls, while Nicholls has made 21 from 34 balls.

Bumrah tries a good short ball slanting in as Guptill ducks under it. Another short ball follows as Guptill tries to play the ramp shot this time but doesn't have enough room with the ball coming in. He somehow manages to ramp the ball over the wicketkeeper for a four.

Guptill is expecting a full delivery next ball as he takes a couple of steps down and lofts Bumrah over the covers for another four before he takes a single off the last ball.

Just seven came from the first four overs, before New Zealand have rallied to hit 19 from the last two overs, to take the score to 26 for no loss in six overs.

Navdeep Saini comes into the attack as he replaces Thakur, who went for some runs in his previous over.

A single to Guptill off the second ball to mid-off and Nicholls gets a leg bye two balls later as he misses the clip on the leg side.

Saini bowls a quick short ball but this time no ramp shot from Guptill as he is happy to let it go and offers no shot to the last ball as well as Saini makes a tidy start.
07:54   New Zealand off to a cautious start

NZ 17-0 (5 ovs) vs India

Nicholls hits Bumrah into the covers for just a single and Guptill guides the next to thirdman for one, followed by another single off the last ball.

Nicholls is keen to break the shackles to make up for the slow start. A full delivery from Thakur is clipped through midwicket for three runs before Guptill takes a single next ball.

Nicholls then chips down the track and lofts Thakur back over his head for the first boundary of the match, in the fifth over. He then taps the fourth delivery to mid-off and rushes across, making his ground despite the direct hit from the fielder and Guptill edges the last ball to thirdman for one.

10 runs from the over as New Zealand reach 17 for no loss in five overs.
07:50   New Zealand off to a cautious start

NZ 4-0 (3 ovs) vs India

Shardul Thakur to open the bowling for India, while Henry Nicholls and Martin Guptill are the two openers for New Zealand.

The first ball is down the leg side as Guptill looks to clip it on the leg side which he misses but picks up a leg bye.

Nicholls then throws his bat at a wide delivery which he misses before he plays out the rest of the over as Thakur starts off with a maiden over

Jasprit Bumrah from the other end. Guptill defends the first two deliveries before he gets a thick outside edge off the third ball for a single to thirdman to get New Zealand off the mark and Henry takes a quick single two balls later for another run.

India's pacers not giving away anything at the moment. Thakur starts his second over with three dots ball in a row, who then taps the fourth ball on the off-side and steals a quick run.

Thakur then has a huge appeal for leg before wicket turned down but captain Kohli doesn't take the DRS and rightly so as Guptill had got a big inside edge on it.

A slow start for New Zealand as they manage just four runs from the first three overs.

06:56   India aim to bounce back in must-win match

Welcome to the coverage of the second One-Day International between New Zealand and India in Auckland, on Saturday.

Some of their bowling and fielding frailties exposed in the series-opener, India will aim for quick course correction when they take on a resurgent New Zealand in a must-win second match.

Flying high after the 5-0 whitewash of New Zealand in the T20I series, India were brought to the ground after the hosts took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series with a four-wicket win in the first ODI.

The Black Caps chased down their highest-ever total in ODI cricket at Seddon Park and the toss will be crucial once again at the even shorter Eden Park where the side batting second will have a clear advantage.

New Zealand opted to bat here in both the T20Is, but India chased well in both instances albeit in different circumstances.

India find themselves in a familiar situation after the loss in Hamilton. But the visitors have come from behind against the West Indies and Australia to win their last two ODI series and Virat Kohli's men will aim to do the same against the Kiwis.

Like in Chennai against the West Indies, or in Mumbai against Australia, India's loss at Hamilton was down to their lack of ability to take wickets in the middle overs.

In the first ODI, skipper Virat Kohli turned to Jasprit Bumrah every time he went searching for a wicket. This over-dependency is something India would want to address in their composition.

India's fielding too will be under the scanner. In each of those losses at Chennai, Mumbai and Hamilton, it was poor despite flashes of individual brilliance.

The general fielding standards have gone down since the Bangladesh series and there is a need for a collective all-round effort from the visitors to bounce back.

Shardul Thakur was expensive in his outings at Eden Park during the T20Is, and he didn't impress in the first ODI either and India could think of replacing him with Navdeep Saini.

The other contemplation will be about Kedar Jadhav's role in the side. Selected primarily to bring balance to the playing eleven with his part-time spin, Kohli didn't give him a single over in Hamilton.

Perhaps it was due to the short boundaries. In that light, bowling Jadhav at Eden Park makes even less sense. It could merit giving Shivam Dube a go in the must-win match, or even playing a full-time batsman in Manish Pandey.
