Pakistan 126-5 (18 ovs) vs NZ 134-8 | Scorecard

Pakistan registered their second consecutive win in the ICC T20 World Cup, beating New Zealand by five wickets in their Super 12 match in Sharjah on Tuesday.

Sent into bat, New Zealand were restricted to 134/8 in their 20 overs, with fast bowler Haris Rauf taking 4/22.

Chasing a modest target of 135, Pakistan lost their in-from skipper Babar Azam for 9 in the sixth over.

Mohammad Rizwan contributed 33, even as Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Hafeez got out for identical score of 11.

However, Asif Ali (27 not out) and the experienced Shoiab Malik (26) took the match away from New Zealand with their attacking batting in the final few overs.

Boult to bowl the penultimate over with the Kiwis needing a wicket or two to get back into the contest.

Malik swings hard but gets it off the inside half of the bat to deep square leg for a single.

Ali struggling with concussion problems after getting hit on the helmet earlier on as the physio is called out.

But Ali has made good recovery. He pulls the short ball from Boult over midwicket for a six to take Pakistan close.

He drives the next ball through the covers for a couple as Pakistan win by five wickets with eight balls to spare.

Ali changed the course of the match with his quickfire 27 from 12 balls, while Malik brought all his experience into play with a composed innings of 26 from 20 balls.

The duo put on an unbroken stand of 48 runs from 23 balls for the sixth wicket to take Pakistan to their second successive victory in the T20 World Cup.

Southee comes back into the attack. Ali picks the slower ball early as he lofts it down the ground over long-off for a six.

Southee goes for another slower delivery which Ali clobbers over long-on this time for another six.

Two successive sixes have changed the course of Pakistan's innings with the asking rate just under six.

Ali looks to pull the fourth ball but misses and is hit on the pads. The umpire turns down the LBW appeal before Kiwis take the review which is turned down as the ball is going over.

Southee goes full and at full pace as Ali swings hard but is beaten this time.

A quick bouncer from Southee as Ali goes for the pull but is beaten for pace and struck on the helmet.

13 runs from the 17th over, leave Pakistan to get 24 from the last three overs.

Santner to bowl his final over. He starts with a wide half-tracker as Malik cuts it past point for a four to ease the pressure.

The experienced Malik flicks the second ball with soft hands to deep midwicket and rushes back for the second.

Malik comes down the track and lofts Santner back over his head for a huge six straight down the ground.

He clips the fourth ball wide of long-on but this for just a single, as 13 come from the first four balls.

Ali also does well to exploit the empty spaces on the leg side as he pushes Santner through midwicket for two runs.

15 runs from the over has virtually settled the issue in Pakistan's favour, with nine needed from the last two overs.

Neesham comes back into the attack. Imad Wasim comes down the track but fails to time his loft down the ground for two runs as he gets it over the fielder at mid-off.

He takes a single off the second ball on the off-side and Shoaib Malik gets an inside edge for another run before Imad misses the glance as it goes off the pad through to the wicketkeeper and he takes one off the last ball.

Sodhi continues as Pakistan are desperate for a few boundaries. Imad tries the reverse sweep but fails to connect.

Sodhi bowls a wide down the leg side to Imad as the two batsmen also cross over for another extra run.

Malik cuts the short ball but can't get it in the gap for another run.

Sodhi gives away seven runs in his third over, with 53 needed from six overs for victory at just under nine per over.

Boult, who has two overs in hand, is back into the attack. Malik is unable to get a run off the first ball before he takes a quick single to short thirdman.

Imad tries the reverse paddle but misses the full delivery which goes down the leg side.

He then smashes the left-arm pacer over the off-side for a four but perishes next ball.

Imad tries the reverse but misses the full delivery and is trapped leg before wicket for 11. He doesn't take the review as he hobbles off the field, having suffered a blow on his leg.

Asif Ali off to a confident start as he steers the wide delivery from Boult past point for a four.

Mohammed Hafeez makes his intent right clear. He swings the first ball he faces, from medium pacer Neesham, over the off-side for a six to get off the mark in grand style.

The next ball is driven to long-on for one and Rizwan takes a single to deep square leg. Hafeez clips the last ball through midwicket for two runs, as 11 runs come from the over.

At the halfway stage, Pakistan are 58/2 in 10 overs, needing another 77 runs from the last 10 overs for victory.

Santner comes back into the attack. Five singles from the first five balls before a piece of magic on the field by Conway gets them the wicket of Hafeez.

Hafeez lofts the spinner over the off-side as the ball looks destined to go for a four but Conway running to his left at long-off dives full length and comes up with a stunning catch.

Sodhi is back into the attack. He drops short as Rizwan pulls it over midwicket for a four.

But the bowler has the last laugh. The full delivery goes straight on as Rizwan is struck plumb in front to be dismissed for 33.

This is a huge breakthrough for New Zealand as Pakistan are reduced to 70/4 in 12 overs, needing another 65 runs in eight overs for victory.

Left-arm spinner Santner comes back into the attack. Rizwan defends the first ball before he sweeps the next fine on the leg side for a four.

Rizwan flicks the third ball for a single through the leg side and Zaman gets off the last ball.

Zaman keen to break free as he pulls James Neesham's first ball for a single to fine leg.

The left-hander comes down but is beaten before he throws his bat at a wide delivery but misses again.

He has made just three from 11 balls as Pakistan have slowed down considerably since his arrival.

Zaman taps the last ball down to long-on for a single as Neesham concedes just three runs from the over, including a leg bye.

Ish Sodhi comes into the attack. Zaman needs no second invitation as he clubs the leg-spinner high over midwicket for a six, to break the shackles.

Sodhi gets revenge a few balls later. Zaman is struck on the pads by the slider which goes straight on but the leg before shout is turned down.

New Zealand are confident as they take the review. The ball has struck in line and is going on to hit the stumps as the decision is overturned.

Zaman walks back after scoring just 11 as Pakistan are reduced to 47/2 in nine overs.

Left-arm pacer Trent Boult comes into the attack in place of Santner. He starts with a short ball which Rizwan pulls for a boundary through square leg.

Boult then bowls a wide down the leg side as Rizwan misses the glance, followed by four dots in a row as pacer makes a good comeback after getting hit for a four off the first ball.

Tight bowling from New Zealand in the Powerplay as they look to keep things tight and build some pressure.

Rizwan releases the pressure as he helps the leg side delivery from Southee through fine leg for a four. He pulls the next ball but this time for just a single to fine leg.

Babar hits the last ball through midwicket for a couple of runs as Southee goes for eight runs in the fourth over.

Boult gives some width as Rizwan guides it behind point for a four before he is hit on the pads next ball but is saved by the inside edge.

He pulls Boult's fourth ball for a single and Babar gets one off the last ball.

Southee makes the breakthrough with the key wicket of Pakistan captain Babar, who is bowled for nine.

The slower ball from Southee beats Babar all ends up as he looks to heave it over the leg side but misses and is bowled.

Southee picks 100th wicket in T20 Internationals as New Zealand make the breakthrough in the sixth over.

Fakhar Zaman gets off the mark with a single to mid-off and Rizwan pulls the next for another run.

Zaman looks to hit Southee through the off-side but is beaten and is unable to get a run off the last two balls, as just two runs come from the over.

Pakistan reduced to 30/1 in six overs.

Tim Southee from the other end. Rizwan is unable to get a run off the first two balls before the pacer bowls a wide down the leg side.

Afridi to bowl the 19th over. He starts with a slower ball as Siefert has a big swing but is deceived completely by the change of pace.

The next ball is a yorker as Siefert misses the clip and is hit on the toes but the leg before shout is turned down.

Pakistan take the review despite the impact being way outside the line of leg stump and it is rejected in no time.

Siefert finally gets bat on ball as he ends up miscuing it on the leg side for a single to deep midwicket.

Another cracking yorker from Afridi as left-hander Mitchell Santner is hit on the pads but again it is going down leg.

Siefert breaks the shackles as he walks across and scoops a full toss fine on the leg side for a four.

But Afridi gets revenge off the last ball as Siefert swings hard but gets a thick outside edge to be caught at point for eight.

Rauf to bowl the final over. Ish Sodhi takes a single off the first ball to short thirdman and Santner miscues the lofted shot as it falls just short of mid-off for a couple of runs.

Santner swings hard but is beaten by the change of pace as he steals a bye before Sodhi takes one through the off-side.

Santner crashes the fifth ball through the covers for a four as Rauf makes the mistake of giving some width.

But Rauf cleans him up off the last ball as Santner swings hard but misses and is bowled for six.

Rauf finishes with 4/22 as New Zealand are restricted to 134/8 in their 20 overs.

Hasan continues as he starts his new over with a low full toss which Conway drives down to long-on for a single.

Phillips takes another run off the next to the same region for another run. This good bowling from Pakistan as New Zealand are restricted to just singles.

Five singles from the first five balls before Phillips pulls the last ball for a couple of runs, as Hasan gives away just seven runs in his third over.

Pace bowler Afridi is back into the attack. Conway manages just a single off the first ball as New Zealand are without a boundary for 20 balls.

The next ball is a half-volley on the pads as Phillips misses the flick and he manages to take a leg bye.

He connects with the flick two balls later but ends up hitting it on the bounce to deep midwicket for just a single.

However, he smashes the last ball straight down the ground for a four, the first boundary for New Zealand after 24 balls.

Rauf is back into the attack. Conway looks to attack the pace bowler but holes out the first ball to Babar at long-on for 27.

The next ball is just outside the off-stump as Phillips pokes and misses.

He pulls the third ball but fails to get it in the gap as Hasan takes a good catch running forward from deep midwicket.

Tim Siefert gets off the mark with two runs through square leg and keeps strike with one to long-on, as Rauf gives away just three runs in the 18th over.

In the next over, Williamson taps Shadab on the off-side for a single before Conway tries the reverse sweep but can't beat the fielder at short thirdman.

Conway pulls the third ball through midwicket for two runs before he sweeps the next ball through square leg for a four as the fielder misses an easy stop on the boundary.

He repeats the shot but this time perfectly in the gap for another boundary.

Shadab tries the googly as Conway reverse sweeps it fine, past the fielder inside the circle for another four.

Shadab goes for 15 runs in his third over as NZ reach 90/3 in 15 overs.

Against the run of play, Pakistan strike with the key wicket of captain Williamson.

Williamson taps the first ball on the off-side and tries for a quick single but is sent back. However, Hasan is quick to get to the ball on his follow through and catches the Kiwi captain short with a direct hit.

Williamson is run out for 25 as New Zealand are reduced to 90/4.

New batsman Glenn Phillips is struck on the pads by a quick incoming delivery from Hasan as he tries to flick it square.

He takes a single next ball to deep square leg to get off the mark and Conway clips the fifth ball to fine leg for one as the umpires rule it a no-ball.

Phillips pulls the free hit delivery but gets just a single to deep square leg and Conway takes one to midwicket.

Pacer Rauf, who has three overs in hand, is back into the attack. He gives away just five singles in the 15th over as New Zealand bring up their 100.

Part-time off-spinner Mohammed Hafeez comes into the attack. He strikes first ball with the wicket of James Neesham, who looks to swing the full delivery over the leg side but is caught at deep midwicket for one.

Williamson slaps the next ball in the gap through the covers for a couple of runs and then takes a single to long-on.

Devon Conway gets off the mark with one to midwicket and Williamson defends the last ball back to the bowler.

At the halfway mark, New Zealand are 60/3 in 10 overs, with Williamson on 12.

Leggie Shadab is back into the attack. Conway reverse sweeps the first ball but can't get it in the gap before he takes a single.

Shadab gets the third ball to turn sharply as Williamson is beaten before he plays the sweep for a single.

Conway misses the sweep last ball as the ball turns into him to hit his body for a leg bye.

Hafeez strikes another big blow in his next over. Williamson attempts the reverse sweep but is beaten and struck in front to be given out leg before wicket.

But he reviews the decision and rightly so as he had got a thin inside edge as the decision is overturned.

Williamson celebrates the reprieve as he pulls the next ball from Hafeez through midwicket for a four.

The Kiwi captain comes down the track as he fails to get to the pitch but ends up going through his lofted shot. Incredibly, despite getting a hand off the bat, he is able to clear the fielder at long-on for a six.

Williamson tries to reverse the last ball but gets an inside edge for a single, as 12 runs come from the 12th over.

Fast bowler Haris Rauf comes into the attack. He starts with a cracking yorker as Guptill manages to get his bat down and jam it out on the bounce to the wicketkeeper.

However, Rauf gets his man next ball as Guptill is bowled for 17. The right-hander makes room but Rauf follows him with a quick full delivery which goes off his pads into the stumps.

Kane Williamson gets off the mark with a single on the leg side and Mitchell takes one off the next.

The last ball is on the pads as Williamson clips it past short fine leg for a four as New Zealand reach 42/1 in six overs.

Afridi goes full and on the stumps as Mitchell flicks it off his pads through midwicket for a couple of runs.

A single each to Mitchell and Guptill before the former slaps a short wide delivery from Afridi through the covers for a four.

Spinner Wasim continues as Guptill plays out three dot balls in a row before taking a single to long-on.

A single to Mitchell to the same region before Guptill cuts the last ball behind point for a four.

Pace bowler Hasan Ali comes into the attack. Mitchell welcomes him by lofting the first ball straight back over the bowler's head for a six.

He looks to pull the first ball but gets it off the inside half for a single and Guptill nearly inside edges the next back to the stumps for another run.

A single to Mitchell to mid-on before Guptill slashes the next square over the off-side for a four.

But Hasan has overstepped to concede a free hit but he does well to bowl a yorker as Guptill gets just a single from the free hit delivery.

Martin Guptill and Daryl Mitchell are the two openers for New Zealand, while Shaheen Afridi will open the bowling for Pakistan.

Guptill defends the first ball back to the bowler and offers no shot to the next. He looks to hit the third ball but can't make proper connection and defends the fourth ball on the off-side before he keeps out the yorker.

The last ball moves away as Guptill pokes and is beaten as Afridi starts with a maiden over.

Left-arm spinner Imad Wasim from the other end. Mitchell flicks the second ball through midwicket for a single to get New Zealand off the mark.

Guptill gets off the mark with a quick single on the off-side before followed by another single to his partner.

Guptill cuts the last ball behind point to end the over with a boundary.

19:12   Pakistan win toss, elect to bowl vs NZ

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has won the toss and elected to bowl against New Zealand in Super 12s match at the T20 World Cup in Sharjah on Tuesday.

Pakistan have retained the same playing XI, which beat India in their opening match of the tournament.

New Zealand have gone in with two spinners in Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner, while Tim Southee and Trent Boultee are the two pace bowlers, along with all-rounder James Neesham.
19:08   South Africa ease past WI by 8 wkts

South Africa 144-2 (18.2) vs West Indies 143-8 | Scorecard

Aiden Makram smashed a 25-ball 51 to guide South Africa to a convincing eight-wicket win over Windies.

Makram was aggressive right from the onset and took the attack to the opposition, smashing four sixes and two boundaries. 

Rassie van de Dussen gave the South African innings much-needed control in the middle as he hit a classy 43 off 51 balls. The duo added an unbeaten 83 runs stand to see Proteas through with 10 balls to spare. 

For West Indies Akeal Hosein was the pick of the bowlers picking 1-27 from his four overs.

Adien Makram and Rassie van der Dussen have combined well for South Africa and have put Proteas on top in the chase. West Indies bowlers are looking out of sorts at the moment. 

The duo is looking to speed things up to ensure a better run rate and. Especially Makram who has hit three massive sixes and two boundaries. 

Makram is on 42, while van der Dussen is on 41.

South Africa need 11 runs from 18 balls now.

South Africa's Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Makram is taking the attack back to the opposition hitting sixes and boundaries at will. 

They also have been helped by the fact that Windies bowlers have given them boundary balls as the duo are looking to quickly finishing of the game. 

South African still need 46 runs from 42 balls.

Akeal Hosein has given the much-needed breakthrough for West Indies as he removed Reeza Hendricks for 39. 


Hendricks pulled one towards a deep midwicket was caught brilliantly by diving Shemron Hetmayer. Although the on-field umpire ruled it not out, but TV replays showed that the ball had gone straight to the fielder. 

South Africa need  83 runs from 64 balls.

Rassie van der Dussen and Reeza Hendricks have combined well for South Africa after losing Temba Bavuma in the opening over. 

The duo has already brought their 50-runs stand and are looking to strong in the middle. The pitch too is seeming to help their style of play as the Windies bowlers have barely managed to get any form or purchase form the wicket. 

Hendricks is going strong on 37, while van der Dussen is on 14.

West Indies got off to a good start courtesy of Evin Lewis's half-century, but after his dismissal, wickets kept tumbling. 

Kieron Pollard and Chris Gayle had to do a bit of resurrection in the end, which didn't give the team any momentum. 

South African bowlers were on the mark and picked up wickets at the tail end of the innings to ensure that they don't get the momentum.

Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard have combined well for West Indies after loosing three quick wickets, the duo have put on 32 runs stand already and are looking dangerous with three overs to go.

Pollard is on 18 off 15 balls, while Gayle is on 12 off 11 balls

After Evin Lewis'  dismissal, Maharaj has struck once again as he removed Nicolas Pooran for 12. 


Pooran looked dangerous hitting 2 boundaries, looked to hit another one out of the park, but couldn't clear Miller and was caught at long off.

Then in the next over, Rabada removed Lendl Simmons for 16. Simmons looking to hoick Rabada lost his leg stump.

Lewis had been looking to be aggressive from the onset, got hold of the ball nicely as West Indies get the much-needed momentum.
