Rashid immediately asserts his dominance, bowling two dot balls to keep the batsmen in check. However, Axar Patel seizes the opportunity on the fifth delivery, picking the length early and launching it into the stands for a massive six, injecting some much-needed momentum into DC's innings.
Undeterred by the dots, Axar continues to assert himself, cutting the next delivery towards deep cover for a couple of runs, effectively capitalising on the loose delivery.

With 10 runs plundered from Rashid's over, DC's total climbs to 59-3 after 8 overs, providing a glimmer of hope as they look to rebuild their innings and set a competitive total.

Azmatullah maintains his tight line and length, keeping Axar Patel and Hope on their toes as they deal primarily in singles. However, Hope breaks the shackles momentarily, unleashing a powerful stroke to find the boundary ropes, providing a brief respite for DC.

But the respite is short-lived as Hope swings and misses at a delivery, unable to connect with the ball. The over concludes with a dot ball, adding 7 runs to DC's total as they reach 43-2 after 5 overs, facing a bit of pressure with the loss of early wickets.

Sandeep Warrier, the wicket-taker, resumes his spell, posing a threat with his consistent bowling. Axar Patel manages just a single off a good delivery aimed at the stumps, while Hope hops to nudge the ball for another single.

Hope attempts to drive the next delivery to cover, but finds the fielder and is unable to add to the score. Unfortunately for DC, Hope's innings comes to an abrupt end as he is caught by Rashid Khan at deep backward point, departing for a modest 5 off 6 balls.

With Hope's dismissal, DC finds themselves in a precarious position, grappling with the loss of key wickets and the mounting pressure of the game.

Pant, the new batter, defends the last two. At the end of the powerplay DC are 44-3.

Azmatullah continues, looking to apply pressure on the batsmen. Jake manages just a single off a shorter delivery, rotating the strike to keep the momentum going. However, Shaw capitalizes on a bouncer, sending it racing to the boundary for four runs, much to the delight of the DC fans.

Displaying a disciplined line, Azmatullah prevents any further scoring opportunities, frustrating the batsmen with his accuracy. Shaw, undeterred, expertly clips the next delivery for a single, showcasing his ability to find gaps in the field.

Azmatullah delivers an outstanding yorker, denying Jake any chance of scoring as he defends diligently. But just as the over seems to be winding down, Shaw pulls off a breathtaking stroke, effortlessly chipping the ball over mid-wicket for a sensational six, adding valuable runs to the scoreboard.

With 12 runs amassed from Azmatullah's over, DC's total reaches 34-0 after three overs, maintaining their strong start. Warrier takes up the attack, and Shaw manages to pick up a single off his bowling.

However, the jubilation is short-lived as disaster strikes for DC. Jake, aiming for another big shot, mistimes his stroke and sends the ball soaring into the hands of Noor Ahmad at deep backward square leg. It's a significant blow as Jake departs for a brisk 23 off just 14 balls, leaving DC to regroup after the loss of their dangerous opener.

Axar Patel strides to the crease, promoted to the crucial No. 3 position, aiming to stabilise the innings for DC. He starts cautiously, pushing the first delivery to mid-off for no run, assessing the conditions.

Axar gets off the mark with a well-judged single off the next delivery, nudging it towards mid-off and scampering through for a quick run.

However, the joy is short-lived as Noor Ahmad springs into action once again, stationed at deep backward square leg. He charges forward and executes a brilliant low catch, the ball seemingly dying on its way to him. The on-field umpire refers the decision to the third umpire to confirm the legitimacy of the catch.

After a thorough review, with Noor's fingers shown to be cleanly under the ball, the catch is deemed legitimate, much to the dismay of Shaw and DC.

Shaw departs after a brief cameo, contributing 11 runs off 7 balls, as DC suffer the double blow of losing both their openers in quick succession.

Shai Hope is the new batter, he defends the last off the over.

DC 22-0 (2 Ovs) vs GT | Scorecard

Prithvi Shaw and Fraser-McGurk stride confidently to the crease, ready to face the challenge ahead. It's Shaw who stands poised, awaiting the delivery from Azmatullah who's set to open the attack.

With a deft flick of his wrist, Shaw sends the ball racing between cover and cover-point, the crowd erupting as it finds the boundary for a glorious four. He follows it up with a quick single, showcasing his trademark speed between the wickets.

Fraser-McGurk, on the other hand, looks to assert himself but finds the fielders with his attempted drive, denying him any runs. A lapse in fielding near the boundary gifts Jake a boundary, much to the dismay of Warrier.

Luck seems to favour him as a mistimed shot hangs tantalizingly in the air, only for Rashid to misjudge the catch, granting Fraser-McGurk a reprieve.

Despite the missed opportunity, Azmatullah's first over yields 10 runs, setting an energetic tone for the innings.

Sandeep Warrier takes up the attack from the opposite end, his approach met with a determined defensive stroke from Jake, signalling his readiness to face the challenge. However, Warrier's next delivery strays down the leg side, prompting the umpire to signal a wide.

Undeterred, Jake continues to showcase his composure, solidly defending the following two deliveries. But then, seizing on a loose delivery, he unleashes a powerful whip shot over long leg, sending the ball soaring over the boundary ropes for a resounding six.

The momentum firmly in their favour, Jake follows up with a well-timed boundary, much to the delight of the fans. Sensing an opportunity for quick runs, the duo efficiently rotate the strike, adding a single to their tally to conclude the over.

With 12 runs plundered from Warrier's over, the scoreboard reads 22-0 after two overs, positioning DC in a promising position early in the innings.

19:01   Pitch report

The previous match at this venue saw a record-breaking 125 runs scored by SRH during the Powerplay, but that was on a different pitch.

Wednesday's game takes place on pitch number 5, with square boundaries of 63m and 62m, and a straight boundary of 72m.

Experts Deep Dasgupta and Natalie Germanos believe this pitch will be quite different. While the last one was quite green, this one has seen more wear and tear. However, overall, the pitch appears well-rolled and should play true for a good batting contest.
