A full delivery from Bumrah as Sibley blocks it out straight for a single and Crawley picks one off the last ball.
15:43   Bumrah strikes; England lose early wkt

England 0-1 (2 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

Jasprit Bumrah to open the bowling for India. The first ball is slanted across left-hander Rory Burns, who leaves it alone and then defends the next two on the off-side.

Bumrah strikes in the first over with the wicket of Burns, who is beaten by the full inswinger and caught plumb in front. He decides to review the decision after a chat with his partner Dominic Sibley.

The wickets is umpire's call as the decision stays with England losing an early wicket in the first over of the match.

Burns walks back for a five-ball duck with India striking early.

Mohammed Shami from the other end. The first ball is left alone by Sibley before he blocks the next.

Extra bounce for Shami as Sibley pokes and is beaten but he easily leaves the fourth ball and does the same last two balls.

15:26   India include Jadeja and Shardul

Picking Jadeja ahead of Ashwin has certainly been the talking point ahead of the match.

The inclusion of Shardul and Jadeja has lengthened India's batting line-up with the two all-rounders capable of contributing with the bat.

Check out the playing XIs of the two teams:

England: Joe Root (captain), Rory Burns, Dominic Sibley, Zak Crawley, Jonny Bairstow, Daniel Lawrence, Jos Buttler (w/k), Sam Curran, Ollie Robinson, Stuart Broad, James Anderson.

15:21   Rahul to open the batting for India

A big responsibility for KL Rahul as the opener, who scored a century at No 5 in the three-day warm-up match against County XI last month.

Infact, batting at the top of the order is not new to Rahul. The Karnataka right-hander has opened in 34 Tests, scoring 1915 runs at an average of 36, with five centuries and 10 fifties.

He hit a splendid 149 as the opener in the fifth and final Test at Manchester, during India's last tour of UK in 2018.
15:20   India include Jadeja and Shardul

England captain Joe Root has won the toss and elected to bat against India in the first Test in Nottingham.

India have gone in with five bowlers, including four pacers and a spinner.

KL Rahul will open the batting with Rohit Sharma, while Ravindra Jadeja gets the nod ahead of Ravichandran Ashwin as the lone spinner.

Shardul Thakur is picked as the seam bowling all-rounder, while Mohammed Siraj is selected ahead of veteran Ishant Sharma to partner Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.

With Ben Stokes absent, England have brought in all-rounder Sam Curran. The hosts have not picked a frontline spinner with Jonny Bairstow making a comeback.
14:31   India brace for tough English Test

It will be interesting to see who partners Rohit as the opener in the first Test.

First choice Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the five-match series with injury, while Mayank Agarwal will miss the first Test after suffering a blow on the head during nets on Monday.

KL Rahul is the likely choice as the opener but India could also tempted to try out the gutsy Hanuma Vihari at the top of the order.

Who do you think should open with Rohit?

14:26   India brace for tough English Test

Welcome to the coverage of the first Test between India and England in Nottingham on Wednesday.

India will be aiming to get back to winning ways when they take on England in the first Test in Nottingham, starting on Wednesday, kicking off a new World Test Series (WTC) cycle in the process.

Both sides are smarting from the mauling they received from New Zealand in June with England losing at home and India in the WTC final in Southampton.

England will be also gunning for revenge after suffering a 1-3 series defeat in India earlier this year.

India are struggling with a injury worries going into the series opener.

Opener Shubman Gill, all-rounder Washington Sundar and pace bowler Avesh Khan have returned home with injuries even before the start of the series.

KL Rahul could partner Rohit Sharma at the top of their batting order in Nottingham with Mayank Agarwal ruled out of the first Test after being hit on the helmet while batting during a training session.

Vice captain Ajinkya Rahane is also recovering from a hamstring injury that kept him out of the warm-up match in Durham.

New Zealand exposed India's vulnerability in seam-friendly conditions in Southampton, but Kohli is determined not to let James Anderson and Stuart Broad dominate.

"The idea from here on will be to try to score runs and not worry about getting out in testing conditions," Kohli said of the challenge ahead.
