STUMPS - DAY 2

B'desh 41-1 (14 ovs) vs India 687-6d | Scorecard

Kohli decides to continue with Ishant and Bhuvneshwar as Umesh waits for his turn with the new ball.

Bhuvi bowls another maiden but runs keep coming from the other end. Sarkar turns Ishant on the leg side for one and Tamim also hits the next ball through the same region for a couple.

Bangladesh reach 37 for no loss in 10 overs before Kohli brings in Ravichandran Ashwin into the attack ahead of Ishant.

Sarkar defends the first four balls before a leg bye off the fifth gets him off the strike and Tamim defends the last ball on the off-side.

Finally, Umesh gets the ball, to bowl the 12th over of the day, which completes 90 overs for the day but India have time to send down another couple.

Umesh gets one to rip through Sarkar who is beaten off the inside edge of the bat as Saha takes a diving catch to his right. The Indians go up in appeal for the catch which the umpire turns down but is referred to the DRS.

The Ultra Edge shows there is a fine edge as the ball passes the bat and umpire Rod Tucker has to over turn his decision.

Another left-hander Mominul Haque comes in at No. 3. The first ball is a full toss which he gently defends on the off-side and he is beaten two balls later outside the off-stump.

The last ball is short and on the body which Haque fends awkwardly off his gloves on the leg side and is lucky that it fell safely away from short leg.

Ashwin rushes through his second over as Tamim blocks the first five balls before keeping strike with one from the last ball.

Umesh to bowl the final over of the day. He is getting it to reverse as Tamim chases a wide delivery and is lucky not to have edged it as it goes past the edge of the bat. Top class bowling from Umesh.

He then bowls a good yorker as Tamim manages to keep it out before he takes one from the fifth ball and Haque gets a single off the last ball to get off the mark off the last ball of the day.

India move the third slip fielder to extra cover and guess what, Tamim edges the next ball and it goes in the exact gap where the fielder was taken off from. Captain Kohli immediately shows his disgust at the move which would have resulted in a wicket and no wonder he goes back to third slip.

The last ball is a full and this time Sarkar gets it off the middle as he plays a nice drive through the covers for a four.

Tamim shuffles across and flicks Bhuvi from outside the off-stump through midwicket for three runs. Sarkar is squared up off the next ball as he gets a leading edge but it falls short of the fielder at poi but he manages to play out the rest of the over.

Three good balls from Ishant just outside the off-stump to Sarkar before he drifts on the pads which is flicked through the leg side for a four.

With three fast bowlers in the team, it remains to be seen when Kohli will bring on his spinners.

Ishant bowls a short wide delivery outside the off-stump as Sarkar gets low and ramps it over the slips for a four. Later in the over, he beats the left-hander which straightens after pitching as he pokes at it.

Bhuvneshwar bowls the first maiden of the innings to left-hander Tamim but Ishant continues to leak runs from the other end.

India 675-6 (164 ovs) vs B'desh | Scorecard

Bangladesh have done well to keep the Indian batsmen quiet after the tea break when they would be expected to have a dash and score some quick runs before declaring their innings.

A couple of runs off Mahmudullah takes Saha to 90 before he picks him to fine leg for a single and then gets another run off the last ball.

Jadeja has had enough of the singles as he gives Taijul the strike and launches him over mid-on for a six into the second tier of the stands down the ground. The next ball is short as Jadeja swats it to deep midwicket for one and Saha quietly takes another single.

Jadeja comes down again but can't get a full toss away as it goes on the bounce to long-on for one.

Saha comes down the track and drives Hasan through the covers for a four to take his score to 98.

Jadeja cuts Taijul through point and takes two before he slogs the third ball over midwicket for another massive six to move to 49.

Saha comes down and lofts Taijul back over his head for a six to bring up his century in grand style, from 153 balls.

Saha paddles Taijul fine on the leg side for three runs as Jadeja does well to make his crease at the striker's end.

In the next over, he punches another short delivery through the covers for a four as Saha takes his score to 70.

That boundary also takes India past the 600-run mark, in the 147th over.

Saha looks to sweep Hasan but misses and is struck in front of the stumps. The umpire turns down the appeal for LBW and immediately Bangladesh take the DRS.

There is no edge spotted on the Ultra Edge but the impact is outside the off-stump which means that the decision stays with the umpire's call and Saha lives on.

Saha is fast approaching his century as he guides Taijul past thirdman region for three runs.

Saha has shown good intent in this innings and kept up the tempo after Kohli's departure. He has got the boundaries regularly and in the interim has been sensible enough to keep the runs coming through singles and twos.

Sah goes after Shakib in his next over, hitting him for a four and a six to inch closer to the fifty.

Bangladesh miss a run out as both Saha and Ashwin have a huge misunderstanding but the fielder is unable to gather the ball cleanly.

Hasan then strikes with the wicket of Ashwin, who is caught in the slips after scoring 34, having added 74 runs for the sixth wicket with Saha.

Hasan beats new Ravindra Jadeja with one that turns big and he survives a leg before shout off the next. Bangladesh take the DRS but it goes favour of the batsman with the ball missing the stumps.

Saha gets his half-century from 86 balls with a single on the off-side to make a strong comeback and silence all his critics.

Parthiv Patel, who replaced an injured Saha during the three games of the England Test series, had done well with the bat but Kohli preferred to stick with Saha.

Jadeja gets going with a pulled boundary over midwicket as India reach 577 for six in 143 overs.

India 511-5 (131 ovs) vs B'desh | Scorecard

Kohli perishes shortly after completing his double century, trapped leg before wicket by Taijul for 204, having hit 24 fours in his 246-ball knock.

Strangely Kohli didn't opt for the DRS and walked straightaway after the umpire had raised his finger.

But he should have called for the review as the replay shows that the impact was outside the off-stump and Kohli could have survived that call.

Wonder why he didn't choose to take the review when India two left?

Ravichandran Ashwin lofts Taijul over mid-off to get off the mark with a four and also take India past the 500-run mark, in the 128th over.

Taskin gifts him a full toss which Ashwin drives down the ground past mid-on for another four as the runs keep coming for the Indians.

India will look to continue to bat as long as possible and take the score well in excess of 600.

Koli gets to the double century in rather streaky fashion as he throws his bat at a wide one from Taijul only to miscue it on the off-side but it clears the field and goes for a boundary.

Kohli creates a world record as the only batsman in Test history to hit four double centuries in four successive series.

He also goes past the legendary Don Bradman and former team mate Rahul Dravid, both of whom had hit three double centuries in three successive series.

He gets to the double century from 244 balls, hitting 24 fours in all.

What a player!

Saha was unbeaten on four at the break after he was given a lifeline as wicketkeeper Rahim messed up an easy stumping chance.

For Bangladesh, the only way to inch themselves back in the contest is a few quick wickets after the break but with Kohli ruling supreme that looks unlikely anytime soon.

Meanwhile, Kohli cuts a short ball from Hasan past the point fielder for a four to take his score to 180.

He is however struck on the pads as he is beaten by the turn from Hasan and Bangladesh appeal for LBW which is upheld by the umpire. And immediately Kohli, on 180, takes the DRS which saves him as the ball tracker shows it would have missed the leg stump.

The crowd inside the stadium erupt on seeing the 'NOT OUT' flash on the giant screen. Meanwhile, Kohli himself would be happy seeing the ball starting to turn as India have already piled on the runs and the pitch has started to do things.

Kohli then gets a leading edge on the off-side before he is beaten again off the last ball of the over.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim misses a regulation stumping. Saha had comes down a long way to Taijul and was beaten but wicketkeeper Rahim failed to whip off the bails twice and finally when did Saha made his crease.

Bangladesh were poor in the field on Day 1 and here again they are letting themselves down and letting India get away.

Kohli releases some pressure as he hits another cracking cover drive for a four and then takes a single.

Kohli plays the delicate late cut as he opens the face of the bat and guide the ball fine on the off-side for a four and then takes a single to take his score to 190.

Rahane finally found form with a good half-century, adding 222 runs for the fourth wicket with Kohli to put India on course for a huge score.

Meanwhile, Hasan now bowls a beauty with the ball as Kohli is struck on the pads as he plays all over it. Bangladesh go up in appeal for LBW but the umpire turns it down and the visitors decide against going for the DRS.

11:01   No stopping Kohli as India continue to dominate

India 447-3 (110 ovs) vs B'desh | Scorecard

Bangladesh make another bowling change as off-spinner Mehedi Hasan comes into the attack. If boundaries are not coming, India are ensuring that the run rate doesn't suffer by picking up singles as they pick four runs off Hasan's new over.

Meanwhile, Kohli cuts a short ball from Taijul for a four through the point region to bring up the 200-run stand, for the fourth wicket. He then dabs the next ball off his hips through midwicket to collect another couple of runs.

Finally, a delivery which beats the bat as Taijul bowls a beauty, getting enough turn to beat Kohli, who tentatively pushed forward and is lucky that the ball narrowly missed the stumps.

Some encouraging signs for Bangladesh as they go up in appeal for a catch down the leg side against Rahane. The umpire turns it down and Bangladesh don't go for the DRS this time around.

While Bangladesh have managed to check the flow of boundaries, the scoreboard still continues to tick at a good rate with singles and twos coming quite regularly with the score reaching 447 for three in 110 overs.
10:35   Dominant Kohli gets 150 as India pile on the runs

India 411-3 (100 ovs) vs B'desh | Scorecard

Bangladesh make a bowling change as Kamrul Islam comes in for Taskin, who bowled a poor spell, giving away a lot of boundaries on Day 2.

Rahane smashes a short wide delivery through the off-side as Sabbir Rahman does well on the boundary to keep it down to two.

He cuts the next ball but fails to get the placement right as Rahman does well to dive forward but is unable to take the catch as it falls just short.

Rahane slog sweeps Shakib over midwicket for a four as he makes India's intentions clear, who won't let Bangladesh stifle the scoring rate.

Rahane has changed gears quite efficiently as he plays another magnificent drive through the covers for a four.

Bangladesh introduce left-arm spinner Taijul Islam, who bowled an economical spell of 20 overs for 50 runs on Day 1.

The first hour has belonged to India, who have reached 426 for three in 104 overs, scoring 70 runs in 14 overs at a scoring rate of five in the first hour on Day 2.

Kohli looking good for another double century, maybe even a triple, as he races to 153, while Rahane has looked solid on 73 with the partnership growing to 192 runs for the fourth wicket.

10:20   Dominant Kohli gets 150 as India cross 400

India 411-3 (100 ovs) vs B'desh | Scorecard

Taskin is not learning from his mistakes. Once again he tries the short ball to Kohli, which doesn't rise much and the Indian captain pulls it emphatically through midwicket for a four. The next ball is a bit quicker and Kohli again goes for the pull but this time he doesn't get it off the middle for a single to fine leg.

Another short ball as Kohli tries the ramp shot but makes no connection before he pulls the next to deep square leg for one.

Taskin is becoming too predictable. The short balls continue as Kohli slashes it over the slips for another boundary and then picks a quick single to mid-on and gets an extra run, courtesy of the overthrow.

This is going out of hand as far as Bangladesh is concerned and Kohli is quick to seize the opportunity and grab the game by the neck.

He gives Shakib the charge and lofts him over mid-off for a four and then takes a single to the fielder who is pushed back.

Taskin is bowling a lot of loose deliveries. This time Kohli steers it behind point as the fielder in the deep has no chance for another boundary before a single helps him race to his 150, from 170 balls, having hit 19 fours already.

Taskin bowls another long hop as this time Rahane slashes it over the off-side field for another boundary to continue the flow of runs. A single to Rahane before Kohli misses out on a full toss, as he is unable to get it past the fielder at midwicket.

Shakib switches to over the wicket, with a view to keeping the batsmen quiet by bowling on and around the leg stump but India still manage to get three runs from the over.

India are 411 for three in 100 overs, having scored 55 runs from the first 10 overs on Day 2.

No stopping Kohli, who has stroked his way to 151 from 174 balls, while Rahane is also looking good for a big score as he stroked his way to 60 from 87 balls.
10:08
According to stats guru Mohandas Menon, Virat Kohli has got his name on another record, going past Sehwag's mark for most runs by an Indian batsman in a season.

Taskin Ahmed to bowl the first of the second day and facing him is Kohli, who eased his way to 111 on Day 1.

The India captain picks another easy single in the covers off the second ball before Ajinkya Rahane faces a run out appeal as the short leg fielder flicks the ball back to the stumps but the batsman is back in the crease.

Rahane plays a nice cover drive for a single to the fielder in the deep off the fourth ball as two runs come from the first over of the day.

The experienced Shakib Al Hasan comes on from the other end. Rahane picks a single before Kohli turns a ball on his pads fine on the leg side for a couple and gets another single off the last ball.

Taskin bowls a short ball as Kohli opens his arms and lofts it behind square on the off-side, beating the fielder in the deep for a four.

The next ball is again short and wide and this time Kohli smashes it to the right of the fielder at deep point for another boundary.

Bangladesh show their defensive intent as they look to hold one end up with Shakib, who is only bowling on the stumps and not trying to do much. Rahane looks keen to keep the momentum going but is unable to find the gaps as he plays out a maiden from Shakib.

Kohli looking in ominous touch and Bangladesh can only hope and pray at this stage. He again plays that beautiful cover drive as the fielder in the deep does well to stop it inches inside the ropes and keep it down to two. But no stopping the straight drive as Kohli punches a full delivery back past the bowler for another cracking boundary.

India are scoring at a good rate, having made 20 runs in the first five overs on Day 2, to take their score to 376 for three in 95 overs with Kohli on 129 and Rahane on 47.

In the next over, ahane is gifted a full toss from Shakib which he lofts over midwicket for a four to bring up his 10th half-century in Test cricket in some style, from 73 balls.
