Murali Vijay celebrated his return to the India side with a hundred, while Cheteshwar Pujara continued his golden run with another century as India dominated the second day against Sri Lanka in Nagpur on Saturday.

Pujara was unbeaten on 121, while captain Virat Kohli made 54 not out as India finished the day on 312 for two in 98 overs, for an overall lead of 107 runs.

Vijay, included in the side in place of Shikhar Dhawan, made most of the opportunity with a cracking innings of 128 before he was dismissed by Rangana Herath and was the only wicket to fall on Day 2.

The duo took time to get going in the morning session before they put together a huge partnership of 209 runs.

Kohli's arrival lifted the tempo as he added 96 runs for the third wicket with Pujara as India built a lead of over 100 by stumps.

Herath comes back into the attack with around 10 minutes left for stumps. He continues to be tight, conceding just a single in the over as Kohli picks one before Pujara blocks the remaining five deliveries.

The next over from Perera gets India four easy runs as both batsmen cut down on the risks with stumps round the corner.

Gamage comes back as Herath bowls another one over spell. The pacer beats Kohli all ends up with one that bounces and moves away quite a bit, maybe it hit one of the cracks. That was virtually unplayable!

Kohli makes most of a wide half-volley from Perera as he drives it through the covers for a four and then picks a single to take India past the 100-run mark, in the 96th over.

Pujara is beaten by one as Perera gets it to hold it's line before he taps it on the off-side for one.

Kohli drives the last ball to long-on for a single as the lead touches the 100-run mark.

The India captain taps Gamage on the off-side for a single to bring up his fifty, from 66 balls. Pujara keeps strike with one from the last ball.

Perera to bowl the final over of the day. Pujara picks a single before Kohli flicks the next through midwicket for a four and blocks the rest of the over.

Pujara is beaten by Lakmal as wicketkeeper Dickwella fumbles but Kohli calls him for a quick bye to complete the 50-run stand for the third wicket from 70 balls.

The next ball is clipped to deep midwicket for two runs as Kohli continues his positive approach and slaps the fourth ball to deep point for one.

Pujara keeps strike with a single from the fifth ball before Kohli offers no shot to the last ball.

Pujara gets on top of the bounce and punches Shanaka to sweeper cover but only for a single. Kohli taps the last ball to point and initially rushes as he tries for the second but decides against it in the end.

The struggling Perera, who has conceded 88 runs in 16 overs, comes back into the attack. He continues to leak runs as Kohli picks one to long-on before Pujara sweeps him behind square for a four.

Pujara chips down the track and drives Perera to deep midwicket for one and Kohli gets a single from the last ball to the same fielder.

Kohli plays a magnificent wristy flicks off his pads as he hits Shanaka for a boundary through midwicket. He gets an inside edge two balls later for a single to fine leg.

Pujara's approach has also changed after Kohli's arrival and he is looking to be positive and has taken a lot more singles than before.

Pujara flicks Perera through midwicket as the ball goes in the air but goes in the gap through midwicket for a four. Two more singles as India reach 291 for two in 92 overs, for a lead of 86 runs with six overs left in the day.

Perera completes his century, conceding 101 runs from his 18 overs, going over five per over.

Kohli turns Gamage on the leg side for one before Pujara gets two runs off the next ball to take his score into the 90s.

Herath comes back as he bowls with the new ball. The first ball is wide as Kohli hits it through the off-side for a four to race to 17 with the help of three boundaries.

Kohli tries to force Gamage through the off-side but gets an inside edge which goes away from the stumps.

Just one over for Herath with the new ball before Lakmal comes into the attack. He starts with one way down the leg side as Kohli looks for the flick fine on the leg side but misses.

But a couple of deliveries later, he flicks it square as Gamage does well on the fence to stop the four but the batsmen run across for three runs.

Pujara also gets a leg stump half-volley which he clips square for a four to inch closer to his century.

Kohli taps Gamage on the off-side and sets off for a quick run but gets three more runs courtesy of the overthrow as he makes Pujara sprint for the fourth run.

Pujara steers Shanaka on the off-side for two runs to complete his century, from 246 balls. It was not easy going for Pujara as he had to work really hard for his runs but he was ready to show patience and gradually wore out the Sri Lankans bowlers.

Pujara continues his golden run in Tests in 2017, having already scored more than 1000 runs in the year so far.

Perera continues to leak runs as Pujara slaps a full delivery down the ground past mid-on for a four and then takes two runs through point.

The off-spinner drops short as Pujara punches him through the covers for two more runs to get eight from the over.

Virat Kohli comes forward to defend but is struck on the pads as Sri Lanka appeal for leg before wicket but it is turned down. After a little bit of hesitation, captain Chandimal decides to take the DRS but Kohli had got the inside edge and Sri Lanka lose their second and final review.

Kohli then gets off the mark as he flicks Herath through midwicket for a four and then punches the fifth ball to long-on for one.

Perera replaces Herath as the off-spinner is punched straight down the ground for a four by Kohli.

He then keeps strike with one from the last ball as India reach 237 for two in 80 overs.

Sri Lanka immediately take the second new ball as pacer Gamage continues.

Meanwhile, Sadeera Samarawickrama, who was hit on the ribs by a sweep shot from Vijay has been taken to hospital for precautionary x-rays.

Perera switches to over the wicket as India keeping collect the ones and twos. Pujara gets an edge off the last ball as he looks to defend but it goes past the slips for a couple of runs.

Against the run of play, Sri Lanka claim the wicket of Vijay. The right-hander looks to sweep Herath but ends up hitting a full toss straight to the fielder at fine leg inside the circle as he gets a top edge.

He walks back after a superb innings of 128, having hit 11 fours and a six in his 221-ball knock, after he put on 209 runs for the second wicket with Pujara.

Pujara steers Perera behind point as Herath runs across before the batsmen take two easy runs. He repeats the shot off the last ball for another couple of runs as Herath cleans up again.

Those couple of runs also take Pujara past the 1000-run mark in 2017 from 10 Tests.

Five singles from Perera's 13th over as India go past the Sri Lanka's total and take the lead.

Herath bowls a full delivery on the pads as Vijay flicks it through the leg side for a four to bring up the 200-run stand for the second wicket.

India are sitting pretty on 211 for one in 74 overs, with Vijay on 126 and Pujara on 77.

Herath resumes proceedings after the tea interval. And Pujara takes his time to get his eye in as he plays out a maiden over to start the session.

Perera from the other end as he continues to bowl from round the wicket. Vijay tries to sweep the fourth ball but can't find the gap before he steps down and hits it through the covers for two runs and gets a single from the last ball.

Sri Lanka on the defensive as they look to just dry up the runs and not doing anything to indicate they are bowling to pick up wickets.

Vijay uses the reverse sweep again to good effect, hitting it fine on the off-side as Perera continues from round the wicket for a boundary before he takes one.

Vijay sweeps Herath, as he hits it straight into short leg fielder Sadeera Samarawickrama, who is down with considerable pain after taking a blow on his ribs. The physio comes out and after a few minutes Sadeera walks back to the dressing room following the injury.

India are 195 for one in 70 overs, trailing Sri Lanka by 10 runs.

Vijay scored an unbeaten century, while Pujara hit a solid half-century to guide India to 185 for one in 65 overs at tea break on Day 2.

Vijay, making a comeback into the Indian team, played a sparkling innings of 106, hitting nine fours and a six in his 194-ball knock.

Pujara was more circumspect in his approach, scoring 71 not out in 183 balls, as Sri Lanka failed to pick up a wicket for the second straight session.

India scored 88 runs in 26 overs in the post-lunch session to take control. They now trail Sri Lanka by just 20 runs, with nine wickets still in hand.

Pujara continues to be solid and looks to have gone into a shell with tea round the corner. He plays out a maiden from Shanaka as he defends watchfully with a straight bat.

Gamage comes back as the two batsmen take two singles each to get four from the over before Pujara plays out another maiden over from Shanaka.

Three singles from the first three balls before Gamage looks to hook a short ball but gets it off the gloves fine on the leg side for a four.

Pujara picks a single before Vijay is beaten outside the off-stump off what turns out to be the last ball of the session.

India looking to be positive against Perera and not let him settle down. Three singles from the first four balls before Vijay reverse sweeps the off-spinner fine on the off-side for a four and then takes a single to get eight from the over.

Another part-timer as Shanaka replaces Lakmal as Sri Lanka look completely clueless with the ball at the moment and are just hoping for a mistake from the batsmen to make a breakthrough.

Shanaka starts with a wide delivery which Vijay steers square on the off-side for a couple and then guides the next ball fine for a four to take his score into the 90s.

A couple of singles make it eight from the over, as 24 come from the last three overs with India lifting the tempo.

The boundaries are coming quite regularly off Perera as Pujara sweeps him fine for a four.

Shanaka beats Vijay outside the off-stump and out of nowhere Sri Lanka take the DRS for caught behind though wicketkeeper Dickwella is not concerned. And it turns out to be a poor review as the ball had missed the bat as confirmed by the Snickometer.

Vijay clips the next ball on the leg side for two runs and then picks one to inch closer to his century.

The duo continue to milk Perera, taking four easy singles as the scoreboard continues to tick along.

Vijay seems in no rush as he taps Perera on the off-side to complete his century from 187 balls. What a comeback from the right-hander as he brings up his 10th century in Test cricket.

India continue to be in control as they reach 173 for one in 61 overs, trailing Sri Lanka by 32 runs.

Vijay has had enough of the defending as he breaks the shackles by hitting Herath for a six over long-off. The field is pushed back and Vijay sensibly hits the next ball to long-on for one.

Pujara is not getting the boundaries but is keen to keep the scoreboard ticking with regular singles.

Lakmal getting the ball to reverse as Vijay gets it off the inside half of the bat on the leg side for one.

Off-spinner Perera comes into the attack in place of Herath. He starts with a full toss which Vijay can't make most of and hits it to deep midwicket for one followed by two more singles.

Lakmal getting the ball to shape in but his pace will hardly bother the batsmen despite the reverse swing.

Vijay turns the first ball on the leg side for one and Pujara glances it fine for two runs, who then slaps a half-volley through the covers for a four.

Pujara is keen to complete his half-century as he looks to run a wide delivery down to thirdman but is beaten. He completes his fifty off the last ball with a single on the leg side.

India reach 136 for one in 54 overs, trailing Sri Lanka by 69 runs, with Vijay on 78 and Pujara on 50.

Vijay, on 61, gets a lifeline as Perera at short mid-on next to the non-striker misses a sharp chance to his left. That was an easy opportunity but Perera was unable to hold on.

Sri Lanka will be happy with India's approach as both Herath and Gamage string together a few maiden overs on the trot and dry up the runs.

Pujara taps Herath on the off-side for one, the first runs after a long wait of 27 balls before Vijay also picks one.

Lakmal replaces Gamage as Vijay punches the first ball through the covers for three runs and raise the 100-run stand for the second wicket.

Pujara plays a similar shot but he finds the gap and has timed it better for a boundary followed by a single to thirdman.

India looking to continue the flow as Vijay taps the fourth ball on the leg side for one. Pujara takes one from the last ball to get 10 from the over.

It has been slow going for India after the lunch interval as as they reach 114 for one in 48 overs, with Vijay on 66 and Pujara on 40.

Pacer Gamage kicks off proceedings in the post lunch session. Pujara watchfully defends the first over of the post-lunch session as he takes his time to get his eye in after the break.

Herath to operate from the other end. Vijay takes a single on the off-side from the fourth ball for the first run of the session.

Sri Lanka are unhappy with the ball as the umpires have a little check before deciding to continue with the same ball.

Vijay defends Gamage off the backfoot and then throws his bat at a wide one, trying to cut, but is beaten. However, the next ball is punched down the ground right off the middle for a boundary as India cross the 100-run mark, in the 42nd over.

Vijay hit an unbeaten half-century to guide India to 97 for one in 39 overs at lunch on the second day.

Vijay, who was included in the team after Shikhar Dhawan pulled out of the match due to personal reasons, made most of the opportunity. The India opener started off slowly before he opened up with some lovely boundaries through the off-side to score 56 from 129 balls.

At the other end, Pujara was solid as ever, easing his way to 33 from 92 balls, as the duo put on an unbroken stand of 90 runs for the second wicket.

India dominated the morning session as they scored 86 runs in 31 overs without losing a wicket.

With the wicket getting easier, India will look to build their total in the remaining two sessions and inch their way towards a huge first innings score.

Pujara gets an edge off Perera but the ball falls short of Mathews in the slips, who does well to stop it on the bounce and save some runs.

Pujara then comes down and hits it straight down the ground past mid-off for a four followed by two singles.

The run rate has taken a sharp rise in the last hour or so with India scoring 48 runs from the last 10 overs.

The ball is just flowing off Vijay's bat as he plays another good drive through the covers which is half stopped by the fielder to keep it down to just one.

Sri Lanka bring back Lakmal to make a breakthrough with both batsmen looking in no trouble at the moment.

Pujara takes a single off the third ball before Vijay defends the rest of the over.

Pacers from both ends as Shanaka comes into the attack but Pujara seems to have shut shop and is happy to play out a maiden.

Lakmal to bowl the final over of the morning session. Vijay takes a single from the third ball and two balls later Pujara clips it to deep square leg for another run.

A good session for India as they cruise to 97 for one in 39 overs at the lunch interval on Day 2.

Off-spinner Dilruwan Perera comes into the attack as Shanaka is taken off after just one over when he was hit for two boundaries by Vijay.

But Vijay seems to be in full flow at the moment as he play another cracking drive through the covers off Perera for a four. Two balls later he sweeps the spinner fine for two runs and keeps strike with one from the last ball.

The runs are coming fare more freely in the last 10-15 minutes as the duo pick three singles off Herath's next over.

Pujara also looks to continue the tempo as he chips down the track and lofts Perera over midwicket for a four.

Vijay then looks to loft it down the ground but fails to get it off the middle. However, the ball carries over Chandimal, who chases it from mid-off as Vijay picks two runs to inch closer to his fifty.

Change of ends for Shanaka as he replaces Herath, who bowled nine overs for 15 runs. He bowls a better over this time around, giving away just two singles.

Off-spinner Perera struggling to find his rhythm. He bowls another short ball which Pujara hammers through the covers for a four. Perera has given away 20 runs in three overs as India look to build their score.

Shanaka overpitches as Vijay punches it straight back past the bowler for a four to bring up his fifty in some style, from 112 balls.

All of a sudden the Indian innings has hit a lull as Sri Lanka manage to bowl four maiden overs in a row to build some pressure.

Gamage gets one to kick off length just outside off-stump as Pujara is lucky that the ball didn't kiss the gloves on the way to the wicketkeeper.

Vijay ends the run of maiden overs as he turns Herath on the leg side for a single, the first runs after a wait of 27 deliveries. But Pujara continues to defend as he blocks the remaining five balls of the over.

Gamage producing some unplayable deliveries as this time Vijay somehow manages to fend a rising delivery on the off-side before he takes a single off the last ball of the over.

Medium pacer Dasun Shanaka comes into the attack in place of Gamage. He bowls slightly wide as Vijay again drills it through the covers for a four to take India past the 50-run mark. The bowler errs again three balls later and Vijay himself to another boundary through the off-side.

In the next over, the duo raise their 50-run stand for the second wicket as India reach 57 for one in 28 overs with Vijay on 35 and Pujara on 14.

Pujara clips a full delivery from Lakmal through midwicket for a four as India make a good start on the second day.

Vijay (19) gets a lifeline, infact two in a single delivery. He comes down the track to Herath but gets an inside edge which is dropped by the fielder at short leg who barely has time to react but manages to get his hands on it however he is unable to hold on. He then shows quick reaction to try and flick the ball on to the stumps with Vijay out of his crease but misses the stumps.

Vijay then punches the next ball to mid-on and scampers across for a quick single and Pujara picks another run in the over.

Gamage comes back as Lakmal is given a break but there is no troubling the Indian batsmen as Pujara and Vijay pick a single each.

Sri Lanka will look to Herath to hold one end up and build the pressure but the bowlers at the other end will need to create some wicket-taking opportunities.

It seems too easy for the two Indian batsmen at the moment as they reach 42 for one in 20 overs with Vijay on 21 and Pujara on 13.

Lakmal again tries the short ball to Pujara, who does well to avoid it and then taps the next on the off-side for one and Vijay keeps strike with one from the last ball.

Spin introduced as Rangana Herath comes into the attack in place of Gamage. Pujara chips down the track and clips the full toss through midwicket for a four and then defends the next two balls.

A single from Lakmal's next over as India reach 34 for one in 15 overs.

Suranga Lakmal to begin proceedings for Sri Lanka on Day 2. He starts with a wide half-volley as Murali Vijay slaps it through the covers for a four to start off the day in style.

Two balls later, he tucks one off his hips on the leg side for a single before Pujara defends the rests of the over.

Pacers from both ends as Lahiru Gamage starts off from the other end. Vijay defends the first four balls before he gets it through the covers for two runs and then clips the last ball through midwicket for another couple.

Pujara, as usual, will take his time to get his eye in ad get going. He watchfully defends the over from Lakmal as the Sri Lankans try the short ball against him with a short leg in place but he blocks it easily.

Welcome to the coverage of Day 2 of the second Test between India and Sri Lanka in Nagpur on Saturday.

Bowlers gave India the upper hand as Sri Lanka were bowled out for a below-par 205 in their first innings against India after opting to bat on the first day of the second Test in Nagpur on Friday.

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was the most successful bowler for the hosts with four for 67. Paceman Ishant Sharma and left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja picked up three wickets apiece.

Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal top-scored for the tourists with 57, while opener Dimuth Karunaratne made 51.

In reply, India lost KL Rahul (7) early as they reached 11 for one at stumps on the opening day.
