Ishant bowls another beauty, full and moving away, as Jennings looks to block but is beaten.

Ravichandran Ashwin comes into the attack, to bowl the sixth over, in place of Bumrah. Cook turns the first ball on the leg side for two runs before he is nearly done in by the off-spinner.

A similar delivery with which Ashwin got Cook twice in the first Test, as the left-hander comes forward to defend only to see the ball spin past the edge.

Ishant continues to create problems for the two left-handers. Nearly an edge as Jennings hangs his bat out as it goes whizzing past the edge. He gets an inside edge off the next ball before pushing the last ball into the covers.

Cook being very watchful against Ashwin, looking to play as possible and not push forward.

He defends the first four balls before Kohli calls on for the helmet with just two balls left in the day's play.

An extra man is stationed at silly point as Cook blocks with a straight bat and defends the last ball off the front foot to end the day's play.

But the former England captain manages to play out the rest of the over.

Ishant Sharma to bowl from the other end. Keaton Jennings pushes the second ball down the ground through the covers for two runs to get England off the mark.

Ishant gets one to leave the left-hander Jennings, who has a poke and is beaten before he takes one from the next ball.

Bumrah gives some width as Jenning slaps it through the covers for the first boundary of England's second innings. He pushes the next ball straight past mid-off for two runs and two balls later, he gets a thick outside edge past gully for another four.

Cook gets a thick outside edge for a single on the off-side as Ishant gets a bit of away movement and Jennings sees off the last three balls.

Cook stands tall and hits a slightly short from Bumrah through the covers for a couple. He is lucky to survive off the next ball as Bumrah pitches one up and makes Cook play but the ball seams away a lot to beat the bat. That was virtually unplayable!

However, the next ball is poor, full and on the pads, as Cook clips it through midwicket for a four as England reach 20 for no loss in five overs, needing another 501 more runs for victory.

James Anderson from the other end. Kohli has two close shaves as he edges two balls in a row.

That was a straightforward opportunity and Anderson is visibly very disappointed as they could have got Kohli out in the 90s for the second time in the game. He looks to defend the next ball but gets the edge again as it falls short of Alastair Cook at first slip.

Kohli then taps the last ball into the covers for a single to take his score to 98.

Pujara is the only Indian wicket to fall on the third day so far, as he was caught in the slips off Ben Stokes, who claimed two wickets.

With two full days and a session left in the match, India would no doubt continue to bat after the tea break and score as many as possible.

England take the second new ball immediately after the completion of the 80th over.

But Anderson argues that it was not the ball that they had selected but the umpires are not relenting.

Anderson gets a lot of away movement with the shining new ball but Kohli is well set and is able to leave the first five balls before taking one from the last ball of the over.

Broad from the other end. Kohli clips the first ball on the leg side and Rahane watchfully defends the rest of the over.

India 124-2 (31 ovs) & 329 vs Eng 161 | Scorecard

Welcome to the coverage of Day 3 of the third Test between England and India in Nottingham on Monday.

India are sitting in control after a magnificent second day, taking all 10 England wickets in a session and then piling on the runs to move in sight of a victory in the third test at Trent Bridge that would bring them right back into the series.

At stumps on Day 2, India were 124 for two in their second innings -- a healthy lead of 292 -- after Hardik Pandya had produced a devastating, career-best spell after lunch to rip through England's batting line-up.

England, who lead the five-test series two nil, were left to pick over an astonishing day which began well when they quickly picked up India's four remaining first innings wickets.

They then set off brightly in pursuit of India's 329 before collapsing from 56 for no wicket to 161 all out, suffering the indignity of losing all 10 wickets in a session for the third time in two years.

Their chief tormentor was paceman Pandya who took five for 28 in just six overs, the best figures of his test career, including a wicket with his first ball, as England conceded a first-innings deficit of 168.

England capitulated in a familiar fashion, at one stage losing nine wickets for 74 runs in the space of just 20.5 overs.

It was the third time in two years that England have been bowled out in a session.

When India batted for the second time it immediately looked a different game as openers Shikhar Dhawan (44) and Rahul (36) went past 50 at a run a ball.

It was the first time since 1986 that Indian openers have twice posted half-century partnerships in the same match in England.

Rahul was eventually bowled by Ben Stokes, who claimed his first wicket since his return to the side, but by then it was already case of how quickly the tourists would pile on the agony for England.
